At present fans are waiting anxiously for new signings to lift the club away from the relegation fight.

We see all the departing players which NC told us to expect but we have seen just the modest loan signing of Paynter, sound but modest nevertheless.

The announcement about the prince's arrival was deliberately timed after the end of the previous transfer window "so that deals could be done without other clubs getting a whiff of new money in the air" or words to that effect. I never understood the logic of that when for weeks Weir had been signing players for peanuts under instructions to reduce the overall wage bill, but hey ho. The arrival of the prince and the careless comments of one of the younger McCabe's have encouraged thoughts about "game changing" expenditure on new and better quality players and the whole football world knows that now.

The Financial Fair Play Rules do affect the amount of funds allowed to be spent this month and no doubt the club have explored ways and means of inflating the relevant income figure for when the time is ripe to create the bigger budget. We have moved away a number of players and presumably there is a headroom within the budget to sign at least a couple of players now, even without new money. There is a case for waiting until the summer when the choice of players available is much greater I suppose but we have a real fight on our hands to stay in this division.

The point of this OP is to plead to the club to communicate as far as possible what the strategy is. This will presumably help us fans to understand the conditions our manger is working under and it might encourage fans to be patient. It is now the 15th January, half way through the window. Clearly we didn't enter the New Year with any players lined up. Some fans are beginning to doubt whether there is any new money available yet or even whether there ever will be!

Obviously it is not possible to spell out chapter and verse about the full details of our finances, but it is possible to say enough to indicate why we have not been more ambitious right now and broadly what to expect and when. I think most fans are expecting at least a couple more significant signings this month. Maybe many fans were underwhelmed with the Paynter acquisition and expect better. If that is not going to happen then the fans will need to understand why. It is not just about the number of signings, it's about the quality, and if that is not forthcoming we deserve to know why, particularly if there is a financial reason. If there is limited activity or if the signings are modest it can affect NC's image with the fans and we all have a vested interest in him succeeding with the fans onside.

This is also the start of the era of the new club ownership and we all need to be singing off the same songsheet. At present we fans are not quite sure what the songsheet has on it; is it a blockbuster musical or a bit of a gig in a village hall?

United, please don't communicate, ( I for one never believe them anyway) just concentrate all your efforts on winning football matches.

I've no interest in what anyone at the club says, only what they do.

Bottom line is nothing's changed we,re still as skint as we ever was.
Don't ask me about the ins and outs of the situation but I do believe it's another sham/cover up by Mcabe .
No decent signings will be forthcoming in this window.
This HRH bloke will put no money in (has he got any) so the struggle goes on.
Mcabe is hoping things will pick up in the next few games to keep that 15-18,000 here or he'll lose at least 6,000 cash paying fans.
It looks like we've been had again boys Wallsall, Rotherham ,MK Dons laughing at us.

I said at the time it was all a load of bollocks to get keep the fans sweet and so far i've seen nothing to indicate otherwise. I'm 99% we have no money other than what we should have anyway, being one of the biggest clubs in the division. But no doubt the fans will wet themselves if we spend 200k on some bum that Rotherham don't want.

Not really sure about the OP on this as already have communicated the position on several occasions.

Follow Jim Phipps twitter and listen to NC's interviews on RS.
They have both advocated a tack of prudent development rather than splashing the dosh.
They tell us there is a plan and they are sticking to it.
Nothing extravagant this season but maybe a little bolder in the Summer recruitment phase.

The JTW will not yield much more than some short term loans with the aim of survival in this shit hole league. The main rebuilding is still targeted for the Summer when they perceive they will get more value but I still don't hold out much expectation of marquee signings or anything at that time either.

It appears to me that the plan will be to collate a squad that is able to challenge for promotion to the Champ.
However, we will still be in a crap position to attract decent players compared to the others in the division as we will still be viewed as a lower half team devoid of any realistic chances of promotion. The only way they can get around that stigma will be to offer top wages - I am not sure that will occur. If not then it will be a growth policy from the development and youth teams - so that means hanging yer hopes on to De Girolamo doing the business for us as there are any other real prospects from the youth setup coming through that will make that sort of difference. Having stated that I expect that De G will be snapped up by a Champ team as soon as he shows any sign of fitness and form after his recovery.

Tell me it won't be any different!

Don't want to hear anything, just want to see some action and as Christmas is over, no stocking fillers please.

Could one of the cynics (understandable given our history) please reflect sensibly and tell us what the point or purpose of the investment 'sham' or 'cover up' might be and how it could possibly hope to succeed?

Waiting till summer for better value ................................... what a crock of shit.
You have to buy when products become available, it's like the wife spotting a must have expensive dress in the shop but deciding to wait for the boxing day sale only to find the shop sold out before Christmas. There is fuck all money, there never was any money, there never will be fuck all money yet year after year you mugs believe McCabe's bullshit. If it wasn't so sad it would be laughable how this clubs fans are taken in by flash words like ethos, synergy blah blah blah now we have a Yank twit on twatter for followers to crack one off to FFS. I have yet to see a change of thinking at the lane we always try to do things on the cheap, and from where I'm looking that is still the case, still players for League Two will come even cheaper, win win for everyone.

The aim of building a squad with the expectation of challenging for championship promotion isn't going to be much use if we have to negotiate promotion to league 1 from league 2 first.

I think there's a very real possibility that a lot of people think this club is too big to go down.

I think it's just to divert our attention away from the Jews that did 9/11....

What? WHAT..???

Yep, this season has many similarities to our final season in the Championship. Deep in trouble, then use the JTW to replace talented players (Ward/Britton - Brandy/Cuvelier) with solid, hardworking limited ones (Doyle/Collins - Paynter). It didn't work out too well last time.

Completely on board with this view. Fortunately we have a good manager that seems to have a better idea of what he's doing than the previous one.

I genuinely believe that unless he's allowed to make 2 or 3 permanent signings we will be sailing very close to the wind come the back end of the season. Loans are a gamble, few work and many don't. It's a very limited market in terms of fit, in form and committed players.

The club is only as big or as 'quality' as the 11 on the pitch. Which demonstrates, more clearly than any rhetoric, why we have regressed so severely in the last 2-3 years.

Blackpool were a "big" club when they were in the Prem a couple of years back. Why? Not because of their fan base or impressive infrastructure; because the lads they sent out on the pitch were good footballers and they had a very decent manager behind them.

This investment is supposedly for the first team. The first team is the only thing that will get us out of this dreadful league. Not a nice training ground or a big stadium or our fantastic fans - no matter how loyal. If the first team is shit then we are going nowhere. And the first team is VERY shit.

Let's see that $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Nothing has changed.

Premiership fans & set up

League 1/2 Board and ambition

Well, I did ask for sensible reflections, I suppose........

Well the McCabe bashing didn't start 'til message 3 this time. An improvement.

Waiting for a Porter joke now.

Very wise words ...... if only somebody would whisper them into the ears of NC, HRH and KM. We are certainly sleepwalking into a relegation dogfight that we are most certainly NOT well equipped to tackle !!!!
Wake up and smell the coffee guys.

Every transfer window, somebody at the club trots out the words " We have a cunning plan ":- "Few loans to keep us in this division blah blah blah", " "planning for big assault in summer blah blah blah " all the usual rubbish to try and placate the fans as to why no one of any significance has come through the door during the transfer window.

The truth is our squad compared to what we had has got a lot weaker season by season , due to McCabes indifference and no other board members taking up the fight,McCabe bears the brunt , but no one else can as no else puts money in , but we are mainly in trouble now due to the Weir EXPERIMENT that blew up in our faces . I dont think we will go down , not because we are "too big" but poor though we are there are worse sides than us , a bit like Wednesday will stay up in an ever diminishing quality championship because theres some shittier sides in that league now, outside the prem the whole system is becoming shite , but we have enough "quality" dubious as it might be to hold our own, there are clubs with much worse squads , we were just hampered by an atrocious start ,under a clueless coach and only needed a someone to organise the troops. We can only hope some real proof of investment is forth coming, I am not saying buying 4 2 million pound players , just enough to ensure a relaxed passage to mid table, which we should reasonably expect as much of the same players , got us to the play offs last season. 3 home games now to ease the pressure , 1 being cup and a win in that can only help boost moral but losing wont do any damage either, but 4 points from the 2 home league games is the real aim .We only need the same form weve shown under Clough to survive any extra bodies will just make it that bit easier, the transfer window rarely gets into gear until the last 2 weeks of January , as theres been very little movement at all throughout football in the first fortnight.

Well at the time the anti-McCabe feeling was at an all-time high. Probably not all that serious talks of boycotting games and protests, but not all that far off becoming reality.

Enter the cunning plan. Suddenly overnight McCabe gets to pass go and collect £200 every week until now. Now they just throw in a few more excuses like "oh yeah we got money. loads of it. but it's prudent to spend wisely." to keep everybody sweet til next season. Then next season they can find some more excuses for not buying any players. Genius, Baldrick.

Yes, that must have sounded less convincing with every word you wrote, didn't it? What's in it for HRH?

As has been said elsewhere, talk it cheap we need action.
