Yea we had a crew on the Lane End before we were moved on to John St WestSome top lads in that era my friend & had some great times![]()
Pretty good analysis and summary. On paper that John Harris/Ken Furphy stint of top flight success in the early 70s was a significant high. Missing out on Europe by a whisker. What would we give for five consecutives seasons in the top flight these days?!?No, we haven’t been spoilt, we are in just in a space we always should have been in. Since the day we were relegated from the old First Division in 76 our ambitions as a fanbase have always been tempered by successive owners. We have been conditioned not to expect too much and our perpetual poor financial state was used as comfort blanket for many. To be honest my first 15 years of supporting United the “New South Stand” was always wheeled out as the reason we couldn’t compete at the top of the Second Division, never mind the top flight.
Ok, so we fucked it up last season, but we are now in a position were we are always one of the favourites for promotion and our finances are seemingly better than ever. So going back to the original question “have we been spoilt.” No, we are just competing again with clubs we always should have been.
