I don’t know the answer ..... but my honest feeling is we have given players like Heneghan,Thomas even Cranie an opportunity and a healthy salary to prove their worth over some academy players we already have in the building. The number of games these players have played in would have helped develope our young players quicker. IMO.

The 3 players have a combined tally of one substitute appearance in league football for the Blades.

Outside of Man U, Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea, our academy graduates played more Premier League football than any other club's in the world last season.

The fact that we are not playing more of our youngsters suggests that our coaching staff don't think they are ready yet.

A father of one of our academy graduates used to moan on here about his lad not getting picked 4 seasons ago. He's now in the Vanarama League North.

I should have made it slightly clearer.

I meant in all competitions...... and before you say. I know it won’t be many but enough to help our own youth players.

Even 1 first team game would be a benefit.

“Hard done by”

Change in loan location. Get the feeling he didn’t really impress at Bristol Rovers, hoping this one alongside RND is better.

He's made 28 appearances this season, so he's at least had game time, which makes it seem a strange decision to change his loan team, unless there's more to it.

Was trying to work out what's happened here seeing as he's leaving one midtable L1 team for another - but I see Bristol Rovers have just changed their manager in mid-December, which has coincided with Smith not being in the squad at all. Guess the new fella just wants to focus on "his" players.

I notice RN-D was back in the side last night as a wing back/midfield (they lined up 3-4-3) I know he is highly regarded at Rochdale.

Was speaking to a few Bristol fans earlier in the season and they suggested the football was largely dire and the forwards were being starved of proper service and feeding off scraps a lot of the time. This was before they changed their manager but suspect we may have looked to get him elsewhere anyway. He needs to impress over the next few months surely if he’s going to have a future at that level - Rochdale are a good footballing side and he’ll get chances if he gets minutes. Be interesting to see how he gets on.

Good move. If we're loaning players out they need to be playing.

Sounds good. Manager’s usually like their players to go to clubs that are similar in philosophy (when possible). It looks like we like Rochdale and what they try to do.

I wandered along last night specifically to watch him. Hard to asses amid the chaos in the Rochdale defence but looked a significant cut above.
Good positional sense in defence, maybe too small for the Prem but strong and a good turn of pace.
Made some intelligent runs into space but maybe too intelligent for his team mates.
They took him off after 70mins presumably as he is recovering from a spell out.
Reminded me of that ginger kid who played right back for us in the late eighties.

He was at Barrow at the same time as R N-D and at least one other player from that team who is now also at Rochdale via a different route. Of the two, R N-D with his surging runs forward and determined style looked the best prospect . Tyler looked a little lightweight at the time against some of the burly National League defenders - but his positional sense was very good as were his intelligent runs off the ball in and around the box .

How tall do you think he is? Akinbiyi reckoned 5’9” but wiki says 5’11”

I don’t remember Wilder being ginger.

He looked smaller than that but Newcastle are a big team.

Strawberry blonde is my recollection but it is a long time ago.

Now you mention it, he does have a touch of ginger. Can’t say I ever noticed from the kop, if asked I’d have said ‘mousey blond’ 93943E77-5C8A-4849-84BA-5B2BE6689270.jpeg
