Twenty years ago today Dave Bassett left the club. The best manager we have had in the 35 years I've supported the Blades - thanks for the memories Harry!
I think that might have been one of my favouritesWE'RE on the march with Bassett's Army
We're not gonna win the league
And we don't give a fuck
Cos the Blades are staying up

If he'd stayed one more season with that cunt McDonald at the helm, the fans would've been calling for his head. It's the United way.

Happy days, fond memories...

He provided the best times I have known as a Blade. We need someone like him now.

Beating Oldham Athletic 7-2 in the ZDS Cup.
Beating Brighton 5-4 in 1990.
There was also the strange 6-3 win at Luton in Dec 94.
I remember people saying that the Oldham game was the players telling Bassett to stick his long ball style and showing they could play a bit. I doubt that interpretation is correct.
Before my time but some say the 3-2 win over Forest in 1990 after failing to win in the first 16 games was a cracker.
Oh yes, that's a contender as is the 2-0 win at Forest on 1/5/93 in Clough's last game there.
I recall the tension in the last 10 minutes was almost unbearable. I've never been so relieved to hear the final whistle
Bassett (or someone at SUFC) clearly had a self-deprecatory sense of humour. If I'm not mistaken, at half-time, they played Yazz - The Only Way Is Up.Before my time but some say the 3-2 win over Forest in 1990 after failing to win in the first 16 games was a cracker.
Before my time, but I thought it was quite ironic to have chosen a nickname that dually acts as a reminder of a certain first name in a relegation season 10 or so years prior. What are you getting at with the sarcastic smiley? I can see you have put in bold the words "Dave", "Bassett" and "Harry", but please explain.

Do you really hear the name "Harry" and instantly think of Harry Haslam? He'd be about the 98th thing that came to mind.
No, but it's not like you can erase it from your mind either. And I wasn't even alive at the time.Do you really hear the name "Harry" and instantly think of Harry Haslam? He'd be about the 98th thing that came to mind.
Wasn't he called "Harry" because of some Cockney geezer type joke from his time at Wimbledon?
