If he'd stayed one more season with that cunt McDonald at the helm, the fans would've been calling for his head. It's the United way.

WE'RE on the march with Bassett's Army
We're not gonna win the league
And we don't give a fuck
Cos the Blades are staying up
Cos United are the greatest football team...;)

Happy days, fond memories...

I heard a version of that at Brighton the Wed after Man Utd knocked us out of the cup in March 1990

WE'RE on the march with Bassett's Army
We're not gonna Wembley
And we don't give a fuck
Cos the Blades are going up

He provided the best times I have known as a Blade. We need someone like him now.

Before my time but some say the 3-2 win over Forest in 1990 after failing to win in the first 16 games was a cracker.

Can't remember if it was No.7 or No.8, but I can remember Fergie screaming at Dennis Irwin

"Dennis, DENNIS, keep playing football"

One of the best days, the best being No.1

I remember it well, I was on the South Stand and the noise from the Kop when that third went in was like a plane taking off. If memory serves, the goals all came in a flurry.

Beating Oldham Athletic 7-2 in the ZDS Cup.

Beating Brighton 5-4 in 1990.

I remember that one, too.
Brian McClair got the only goal of the game, right? Jammy bastard. I went to that one.

There was also the strange 6-3 win at Luton in Dec 94.

I remember people saying that the Oldham game was the players telling Bassett to stick his long ball style and showing they could play a bit. I doubt that interpretation is correct.

WE went 2-0 down early on as I recall and I think the last 4 goals all came in the last 10 mins. I suspect Oldham (going for promotion from the old D2) didn't really care.

I recall the tension in the last 10 minutes was almost unbearable. I've never been so relieved to hear the final whistle

Oh yes, that's a contender as is the 2-0 win at Forest on 1/5/93 in Clough's last game there.

I sat with two Blades behind the disabled section in amongst the Forest fans for that game. We tried to stay anonymous but eventually they realised we weren't Forest fans, and at the end a Lady in a wheelchair angrily shouted at us that "our presence had ruined her afternoon." Thought the result ruined it personally

Deep into injury time there was a moment when Forest pumped a high ball towards Tracey and it looked an easy catch, but he fumbled in as a Forest forwarded homed in, luckily jumping on it before the forward got there.

How did you survive that :-)

What are you getting at with the sarcastic smiley? I can see you have put in bold the words "Dave", "Bassett" and "Harry", but please explain.
Before my time, but I thought it was quite ironic to have chosen a nickname that dually acts as a reminder of a certain first name in a relegation season 10 or so years prior.

Do you really hear the name "Harry" and instantly think of Harry Haslam? He'd be about the 98th thing that came to mind.

Wasn't he called "Harry" because of some Cockney geezer type joke from his time at Wimbledon?

No, but it's not like you can erase it from your mind either. And I wasn't even alive at the time.

Brilliant. As well as the others added above, I would include destroying then Division 1 Newcastle in the League Cup 3 - 0, coming back from 2 - 0 down to beat West Ham 3 - 2 and probably in the top 5 for me, beating Oldham 2 - 0 on their plastic pitch when they were virtually invincible on it. Deane lobbed their 'keeper I'm sure, unless my mind is playing tricks with me, and it was a night match - brilliant result.

As far as I recall some of them were at the time he went.

I remember some fans saying it was probably time for a change but I don’t think he was getting the venom managers of today do and his past achievements weren’t forgotten as they so often are these days…. Well, maybe by a few but they didn’t have the platform to voice their nonsense like they do.
