The more I think about it the more I think I'd prefer Marriott and Eisa. They'd be our players to mould with potential resale value.

Gallagher and Hogan are going to eat up all the wage bill, there's no guarantees they'd be successful and if they were we wouldn't be able to afford to buy them anyway so we'd be back to square one at the end of the season.

In the meantime Ched will be out on loan and if he comes good we'd have him to come back at Xmas.

It may well work FB but those 2 combined would cost ~£8m in fees alone and neither has played above L1. In my mind that would be a huge risk even if they were affordable (which by the sound of things they're not).

To be honest, if we made those signings but Hogan and Gallagher were only loans, I wouldn't be happy.

It would be a pitiful level of investment considering the 'budget' and the 'Brooks money', and realistically, gone will be our most likely time to spend a substantial amount and build a top end Championship squad.

If we don't spend in this window, then I can't see when we will.

Why though? Any money that we do have, that we don't spend in this window, can be spent in another window

I don't think there is a scenario in which you will end up happy to be honest.

Can, but......

I don't think there is a scenario in which you will end up happy to be honest.

No, there is - it would just need us to bring in two decent young attacking players on permanent deals, reinvesting an acceptable amount of what we'll get for Brooks.

Actually, on second thoughts, you're right. That's not a realistic scenario is it...

They could sell the lot, sign 5 Hammonds and 6 Sammons and i'd still be happy if I woke up with Margot Robbie sat on my face.

Mouth if despite the improved budget and the Brooks fee we can't afford a div one and div two striker we may as well admit we've given up ? Its Peterborough and Cheltenham we are dealing with here.

I know the court case is colouring everything we do but we have to be able to compete for that kind of player otherwise there is only.one option...the academy. We don't seem to be able to afford the wages of potential loanees and if you are right we can't afford to buy up and coming players so we are out of options other than developing our own.

I think Marriott is the back up to not landing Gallagher.

Saying that the squad is weaker in it's current form (during pre-season with several weeks of window to go) is hardly insightful: it's obvious.

Saying that Mcgoldrick and Gregory are improvements on Donaldosn and Ched isn't insightful either....

the 'Brooks money',

Can we all stop using this term?

We know from custom and practice (2xK's, BT, 'arry, Dcl et al) that CW money will not see that money. It will be used in 'running the club' (into the ground) with the blessing of many on here.

Edit: this is not an opinion but an agenda ;)

I'd be surprised if that is indeed the case FB as Gallagher and Marriott are about as different as you can get in terms of striker.

Obviously the ongoing litigation is at best a distraction and at worst directly impacting the budget for next season but I was actually referring to the prices quoted for them - £1.5m for Eisa and a ridiculous £6.5m for Marriott. I'd be surprised if either end up going for those prices but both of their stocks are high after coming off good seasons and I'd have thought one of the clubs willing/able to splash more cash than Utd (Forest, Bristol City, Boro etc) are more likely to land them.

Personally, I'd prefer Gallagher over both especially if McGoldrick and/or Gregory also arrive.

The player we are signing is Devante Cole, what a nightmare.

He did nothing for Wigan did he? Did he even score?

Still he’s got some pace at least - and that’s one thing we massively lack. If we were after pace, I would much rather us go for Adam Armstrong.

I cant see it really- why wouldn’t we have gone for him in January if we were still interested

*nixon latest claxon*

Reckons we’ve got a bid in which is close to a club record £4m - being considered and chance it happens.

Nixon now suggesting that the player isn't Devante Cole.

Claims we've put in a bid of almost £4m for an unnamed striker.

That would seem the most likely of the mooted targets for that price... that said I though the understood price was £6.5m.

Maybe it’s for one of the others and we’re hoping they are accept given villa need to sell and Southampton have made some signings.

If it was Gallagher he'd probably say so, because he's mentioned him plenty already.

Marriott has to be the most likely. But that bid would be well under their valuation.

Your house is only as valuable as what someone is prepared to pay for it

Marriott I reckon.

Gallagher and Hogan....high fees and high wages mean that they are out of our reach.

Marriott....fairly high fee and reasonable wages. As a package I reckon we will go for Marriott over Hogan. I would be comfortable with that decision as well.
