Tommy Doyle

I just don't rate Tommy Doyle as much as so many others on this forum do.
I haven't been shocked to see him not kick on at PL level with Wolves.

He only really played well for a couple of months at the end of his season on loan with us.
He has some decent attributes, but lacks in physical and athletic terms.

I said in the second post on this thread that I was opposed to bringing him back as Peck was progressing so well and I standby it.
tomny doyle is a better midfielder than peck imo if weve any chance of getting him we should be all over it

Yep. We need Vini sized footballers with ability.
If Vini could pass and shoot like Doyle he'd be worth £80m. We're never going to get perfection. Every now and then we might stumble across a gem like we did with Ndiaye, but that's what? A once in 30 years event?

Rest of the time we can only bring in players that are available to us and try to mould them together into a team

He will fit in nicely at Sunderland,i think thats where he will be going.
Would be a bad career move if he listens to his manager at wolves. As stated he is a good player but needs to be in a team that controls possession, just csbt see that at Sunderland.

Also Sunderland are a young small side... wasnt it mentioned that doyle is also not built like a prem player (ie 6ft4 and athletically built), no one at Sunderland really fits that billing either - baring Ballard (who's only about 6ft1/2).

career wise it would make sense to come back to the lane financial wise he would go to sunderland the decision is his or his agent 🤔

Get him signed up, let Souza go £18-20m and build team around Peck, Arblaster, Doyle and hopefully persuade Gus to stay

I thought the issue why we didn’t sign him last time around was that he wanted PL wages in the Championship. If he’s had a dose of reality and realised he’s a Championship player then he might now accept reasonable wages and he’d be a good signing assuming Peck leaves, Davies spends half the season injured and Arblaster takes some time to get back fit. With those 3 still on the books though I think Doyle would be a luxury we can’t afford.

I liked Doyle a lot when he was with us but I'm not sure I see the value in signing a player who is similar to Arblaster but not as good at him in any aspect of the game (unless Arblaster leaves or doesn't recover). I also think that, given we're aiming to be back in the PL, if we sign anyone who has poor to average physical attributes they need to be absolutely brilliant at some aspect of the game - and I'm not sure Doyle is.

With that midfield you'd need Ken Dodd as manager. He was the only one who could manage the "Diddy Men"

Passing in general is our weakness and he is pretty good at that, good defender, leader, a player who is only going to improve with knowledge and experience. Would probably be half the price of any of the our current midfielders we might sell.

If he's available at the right price, wants to come, then we'd be daft not to do this deal. Future United captain (on the presumption that Olly will be here for a few years before moving on for a big fee).
