Tom Lawrence

Not sold on his personality. Full of himself.

He would be good cover. Could say the same with Tom Cairney etc. and I'd still take him in a heartbeat. Something about #10s that is inherently annoying in their personalities.

And by all accounts Rangers are not in the running anymore so it is us or Derby.

He's hardly got us over a barrell, has he?

I've alluded to this challenge before of twist or stick but there comes a point in the window where you have to make a sensible call.

If we think losing Berge is a possibility then you have to decide how much appetite for risk you have. If Berge leaves, then Lawrence could potentially become a legitimate regular.

I'd prefer Berge to stay. He was doing really well further forward and Coulibaly coming in, as well as Doyle means we are less reliant on him to provide a central midfield option.

But if Berge leaves near the close of the window, then who comes in? Maybe you get lucky and someone like Januzaj is available still and he'd rather play for a year than not. Or maybe you don't and you end up replacing one of your main starters with a youngster on loan hoping they step up.

Season starts in less than a month so how much do you leave to chance?

For those deriding Lawrence and I haven't seen enough to comment, only his stats of 11+5 in 38 which are more than acceptable and his goals against us. But if not him, then who?
He had a good last season, I grant you, but those were fairly special circumstances.

Ask a Derby fan, he plays one good game then disappears for the next few. That has been most of his career.

I just don't see how he fits in. We expect our players to track back and work, and he does neither. He's a luxury player and I don't think we can afford or need one of those

Just my opinion, but he reminds me of Baxter. Great if he could be arsed but rarely is.

I certainly can't contradict you. I haven't seen him when not playing against us. Maybe he takes this as his big chance? You never know. United have a strong dressing room you'd think. I doubt the likes of Sharp, Egan Basham, Norwood, Fleck would accept players turning it on when they fancy it.

I'm not against adding in that area of the pitch. Cups included you're looking a mid-50s in terms of games played.

He comes with no fee. He's right up there on the list of free transfers. Yes he'd want a decent wage, but so will anyone who is going to contribute well too.

I saw Tyler Roberts linked for instance. Christ. He'd need 5 years to get 11 goals and 3 assists. Before we say no to Lawrence, I'm just curious who is out there who is available and affordable.

Ultimately many footballers are full of themselves to a greater or lesser extent! It often goes with the territory when there's thousands of fans chanting your name and they're on million pound contracts. As long as he gives his all that'll do by me and I don't think the United dressing room will tolerate anyone who thinks they're bigger than they are. On the recent interview from David McGoldrick about his move to Derby, Didsy mentions that he's talked to Tom Lawrence and I suspect that Didsy will have told him all about the team spirt here; he'll have to buy into that and I doubt Hecky would sign someone if they thought they were better than they are. I take your point on it not been an endearing quality but I've not heard his interviews to be honest.

nice video of him vs some team last season

This could be the Luke Freeman trap. Sign the player who always raises his game and rips you apart, only to find out that isn't his normal level. Can we also sign Jake Cooper and Snodgrass?

I reckon him scoring a couple against us last season has soured a few Blades towards him. You don't captain a big club if you're anything other than professional. This talk of 'only turns up for 1 in 4 matches' is clearly bollocks - see my second sentence. If memory serves, while in L1 and the Champ, Wilder made a habit of signing other clubs captains - with good reason.

Hated him that game. Was on the wind up from start to finish. Definitely a shithouse but nowt wrong with that.

1 in 4 is loads better than some we have anyway

I would be happy with this signing. He can score a goal from nothing. Good for those tight boring games where its looking like a bore draw, but then bang!

Of course not all the players are new but the number of quality players hecky could have to pick From by the end of the week will be so much better than he had last season. Replacing the likes of burke, mousset, freeman, verrips, hourihane with coulibaly, lowe, Brewster, Doyle, Anel, Lawrence 🤞. Some improvement in quality and squad depth that

If he comes in and matches his Championship career average for us he’d end up with something like 8 goals and 6 or 7 assists, which I think we’d all be pretty happy with.
Less than that if you take out the pens he’s had to plump up his stats. He won’t be on pens for us so he’ll have to step up considerably.

Didn't know he took their penalties, that does put his stats into context. I take it you're very much not sold on this one, Bob?

Have you seen his other goals?
The guy is class.
I'd go as far as to say he scores goals that very few in our squad could pull off. It might not be consistent enough but you have to take into consideration how shit Derby were last season.
As for his personality, they made him captain, there's obviously a lot of positives there.

Until we have the 6 new bodies through the door I will not stop scanning for updates every 10 minutes.

I've always thought he looked a really decent player when I've seen him for derby
Think his form has dipped a bit but hopefully hecky and his staff can get the best out of him

I’m a struggling derby team he only scored one less goal than MGW so he’s clearly a goal threat and got 5 assists. I’m not comparing him to Gibbs white, my point is that he knows where the back of the net is and it could help replace some of MGWs goals
