Outgoing? Tom Cannon

Fucking hell some of these statements about a player we own, and kind of need to come good.

Whatever happened to getting behind the players?

What an attractive proposition we must be, clueless owners with no money, a manager dividing the fan base, and said fan base labelling you shit if you don’t score every week.
I was just thinking the same
Heaven forbid the lad was actually turning a corner and then came on here to see the reaction

He’s also about 5 years younger than O’Hare which is a big thing when it comes to considering a players value which is why they’re not really comparable.

We should’ve just taken the hit. I don’t like saying this but a mutual parting of ways benefits both parties.

I have no qualms about selling O’Hare for 7 million. My beef is that we didn’t execute a replacement straight away. I presume the same issue would have arisen with Cannon. Were light up front, as rubbish as he has been, he’s better than no one.

I’m happy for us to keep Cannon until Jan and see how he does. Certainly been some signs that he fits into this side, perhaps better than in previous set ups

i would have sold for 5m and think stoke may come back in for cannon in january know hes been very dissapointing but imo our tactics just dont suit his style we often play short 5 yard passes in midfield which doesnt suit cannon he needs the early through ball you can see him making runs off the shoulder of the last defender but weve got nobody in midfield who can play him in

it’s a pity Oné got injured when he did. He looks far more of a concern for defenders than Cannon or Campbell ever do.
Utterly ridiculous that all of Onè, Chong and Seriki got injured fucking IMMEDIATELY

That is basically all of our spark, all of our pace and attacking threat

Without them we're so one paced and dour it's incredible

They don't trust him and to be honest at this point not sure I would not trust him either.
It is not that at all. They just didn't see the runs.
There is also a huge lack of confidence from a lot of players in this team at the moment, that will only change with a run of good performances.
Everything remains too safe and too predictable.
It is common in a lot of teams that are struggling and not easy to rectify.

Rather give Cannon a go than Bamford (who currently looks well off it right now) and the unfit Campbell. I think his goals against Blackburn and Cardiff have given him some confidence and 20 goals this season is on the cards!
20 goals is on. Feed the Cannon and he will score!

Lets not get too ahead of ourselves yet but he might be starting to turn a bit of a corner. Either that or he can only score against Blackburn!

If he hits 10/12 goals in 35/40 odd appearances this season then he'll have had a decent season compared to the dross he's served up up to now.

Hopefully he can keep it going and finally start to contribute.

Seems awfully quiet in here today lads

Even outside of the very well taken goal, he did some decent stuff in open play.

Green shoots.

Showing a bit of character too which is encouraging. Hopefully he keeps it up and kicks on.

I was in the camp of people to have written him off, but he's causing a rethink.

Made Peck's goal as well by jumping into a 50/50 header to win the ball, something he surely wouldn't have done even a few games ago.

I still suspect that giving him the #9 shirt was mostly about making him look more like a player that another club might want to buy, but maybe it's had the desired effect on his confidence as well.

For a small (ish) lad, he has an absolute net buster of a shot on him, but unfortunately, it always seems to hit a defender and bounce back. If he can hit one of those, with clear air between him and the net, we could see some absolute screamers this season.

One milestone reached with that goal:

Cannon has now scored more goals for us than Rhian Brewster did.

And it's only taken him half the appearances, more or less.

Brewster: 119 appearances across 5 seasons. 9 goals.
Cannon: 61 appearances across 3 seasons. 10 goals.

Next time he scores, he will have scored as many for us as he did in his "highlights reel" loan at Stoke, and the goal after that will mean he's scored more for us than for any other club in his career. Onwards and upwards ⚔️
