We should go and get Brian Deane from Donny - only £40k ...
Oh shit , I've woken up
Doesn't seem to happen as much with quality players in the lower leagues on your doorstep who you could have picked up cheap. Deano, Stan, Ian and Glyn Snodin, Gerry Forrest, Bobby Mimms, Steve Agnew, Gerry Taggert.

Had a quick look on the Preston forum, they seem fine with having Cannon and most believe wages won’t be an issue but they think we’re asking too much for him. Hopefully we’ve just gone in high and an agreement can be made somewhere in the middle.

Last season he had Hamer, Brooks, O'Hare and Bamford to supply him

We were capable enough of creating and scoring

He has absolutely no excuse

Even less excuse for his total lack of fight, desire and physicality

He is simply a toss player who needs wank opponents and easy chances plated up to him

He'd score a few somewhere like Peterborough

These clips and certain aspects of his play at bdtbl indicate that he does make runs, could it be that you just give up making them when our style of play ensure our midfield players never release the ball quickly enough?
Gus Hamer made 13 assists last season, more than anyone else in the league. Not a single one for Tom Cannon.
I'd suggest the passes exist the competent striker did not.

I’m not buying into this sentiment it’s the team and not the player one bit.

Anyone that had watched him more than 2/3 times before we even signed him knew he was a terrible fit. Way too passive and ineffective in all round play to be ever worth that kind of sum.

So what he can look ok in a very specific circumstance in a game when he gets an inch perfect through ball, a sleeping defender and he’s able to touch bang goal. What does that make up? <5% of a football match. The other 95% of the game we may as well play with 10 men because he has no other outstanding attribute, not one. If the defence is even half alive to his movement he gets shrugged off the ball like a child.

He’s not fuckin Haaland so he’s nowhere near good enough to focus the whole teams game plan around.

I could totally forgive him if the goals hadn’t arrived but he ran his bollocks off in the channels, linked up and held the ball up but no, nothing in those areas because he’s small, slow, weak, not at all skillful and nesh. He was favourite to the ball more than once again Birmingham and curved his run or slowed down to avoid a collision, allowed the defender in front and then stuck a half arsed leg out after. It’s unforgivable.

A certain Billy Sharp was known as a fox in the box, poacher type forward but Billy did everything Cannon does not. When he wasn’t scoring goals he ran the channels, used his body well, held the ball up back to goal and shithoused us no end of set pieces. He was a stocky, determined, tenacious, bitey little fucker who contributed to the team. He was phenomenal linking MGW and Ndiyae.

I’d love to see us recoup a chunk of the cannon money, I’d be absolutely astounded if he ever truly became the 10m man. Hes not that young anymore and his all round game is miles off.

From Wiki/Opta i think

Sheffield United (Jan 2025 Onward):
Following his recall by Leicester and permanent transfer to Sheffield United in January 2025, he received 3 big chances across 15 league appearances (mostly as a rotation option/substitute).

During the 2025/26 season, Tom Cannon had 11 big (high-quality) chances created for him by his Sheffield United teammates across 37 total appearances.

Compared to the previous campaign, Cannon operated primarily in a rotational role—often split between start assignments (19 starts) and impact substitute appearances (17 off the bench in the Championship).

So we didn't create that much for him to be fair. Though still happy for him to go i think he needs it.

I once saw Chris Morgan score a bicycle kick. We never seemed to play it to him for a bicycle kick ever again after that. He'd have scored a lot more goals if we set the team up to play to his bicycle kicking strengths.

This actually makes more sense than the Tom Cannon argument, as I've seen Tom Cannon be played a through ball god knows how many times, for him to be outpaced by the defender, outmuscled by the defender, or miss the one-on-one. I genuinely never saw Morgan get another bicycle kick opportunity.

Like I said previously even Brewster put the graft in and got the odd assist.

I think Tom Cannon knows he needs to move on to restart his career, I think the club know the same . Finding the right fit for him at a new club at a value that suits sufc is the tricky bit .

We've seen a few players over the years who just didnt work for us , hes just one to add to the list .

Hope for his snd the clubs sake a comprise can be reached.
