When he was signing Wilder mentioned he was someone we have been monitoring for a while. So you have to think what was the master plan that hasn’t quite worked out yet.
When he got the 4 different types of goals against Pompey. I think it’s the 2nd one where you can see him making the shoulder channel run similar to how Ings plays too, the problem is we haven’t really given him that service. He did well at Preston and scored similar goals at Leicester as well as having the chances and goal with us. He isn’t a striker that is going to sit deep but he is going to run the channels and to bingo card Wilder “get the press” right and will get lucky with the odd tap in

Hopefully first team player spouting such fucks off aswell.

Fortunately, considering the celebration for his goal v leicester, i think its bollocks.
You would have to have a close relationship with a player for him to throw a teamate under the bus. Also which we hadnt seen until now.You would not be thanked by that player for blabbing! So i reckon that is a complete fabrication.
He has been poor and what Wilder and co saw in him has not surfaced yet.
I rate Hecki highly as a scout and coach! even he rates him judging by
Prestons interest in him.
Hopefully if we do keep him he shows what we havnt seen.
He has started putting in a shift regarding work rate ( that should be a given for starters anyway).
We have to get more out of him or in my opinion get rid ! If the season falls flat he will start to get pelters and i dont like to see that!.
Come on Cannon prove you are worth the punt we took on you!.

We all know what happens if he moves onto another team in our league. Our other strikers aren't prolific either and it doesn't sound like wilder is bringing anyone in. I'm for keeping him until end of season and then see where we are at

If wilder had been watching him for some time before he signed him he should surely have realised his strength as something we needed, I can't believe he's a messiah and yet everyone seems to want to tell him how to play, what system, 2up front etc, jeez

Every striker on Friday was crap, I'd have paired him up top with Campbell. I'd much rather see them two together than watch Bamford.

I would probably loan him out if it means we can get someone bigger/stronger/faster. If there isn't an upgrade then might as well stick with him and see what happens.

Biggest 👀 since Hammer potentially extending.

Hope for the best, expect the worst. I doubt Preston will meet our valuation and unfortunately, money talks.

Long contract is about all we've got going for us. £9.1M is mental talk IMO, but Brooks went for £8M+ so maybe....Cannon has a somewhat proven record, is young 23(!) and TBF to him has chipped in, statistically, he just absolutely fails the eye test.

On the one hand, drive him there myself etc.

On the other hand, everything from the club (giving him the #9, prominent role in preseason) suggests that from their perspective he's a major part of our plans for the season, and this summer I'm much less confident that he'd be replaced than I would have been last year.

£6m to £7m would be my asking price. Still young, a centre forward, under contract, but clearly not suited to how we play. He runs off the shoulder of the defender but we seldom play that ball for him and its slow build up play. A really poor decision to bring him in if you knew that you wanted to keep playing slow patient possession based football. CW gets a lot of unfair stick on here at times, but this balls up sits firmly at his door. Its like there was no thought given on how we would play him in our team. Cut losses and sell him for any decent fee available upwards of £6m (with sell on percentage).

If we did pay the dreaded £10m, we would need to sell him fro £6.5m to get a small profit. That will not happen, especially as Preston have only just broken their transfer record for Alfie Devine and that was £6m

The problem being that Preston record signing is £6m I doubt they have funds available to pay that again.
Can see Stoke being interested though and they would hopefully pay more
Anyone who shows effort and not shoved off the ball would be a bonus , add someone with pace and / or speed and it iS no brainer to move him on and find a replacement

Must be around 50 games for the club and would struggle to name 5 good ones he has had. Never understood the signing at the time and not sure what he supposed to be good at. If someone offered 5 mill snatch there arm off

I’m always inclined to believe that people working in the game know better than internet stats gurus. But in the case of Cannon, the statistical assessment of Cannon we saw on here was incredibly accurate.

Decent shot on him, but little else to offer.

He will learn and improve, but at his current rate of progress he won’t be peaking at United.
