Claude had this to say:

'I'm glad you like the visualization! It really helps highlight each player's unique strengths:
  • Thomas Cannon excels in pure attacking metrics (goals, shots per 90, goals per shot)
  • Ryan Kent stands out in playmaking and defensive contributions (assists, key passes, tackles)
  • Richard Kone generally shows balanced but moderate performance across most metrics'

Really don't think this is the one for us. Good finisher, but just doesn't contribute much else.

Not even sure he's that - scored 9 goals off exactly 9xG, so he's literally an average finisher. Which is fine, just not something I'd particularly like to see us blow a big load of cash on.

Obviously I hope this works out if he signs here but I'm not seeing much to excite me - just seems like we'd be paying £7m for a slightly worse version of Kieffer Moore. His stats so far this season have him pretty below average vs other forwards in almost every category apart from shots (and most of those are from poor positions; he's 101st in the Championship for expected goals per 90 minutes if you remove pens) and some physical stuff.

Here's Moore's numbers, for comparison's sake:

He's been playing for a wank team so maybe he's much better player than his numbers suggest (he did look dreadful the one time I've actually seen him play too, FWIW), just that I expected to see some standout stuff here for a player rumoured to be going for £7m.

For context I was very excited by the prospect of signing Tyrese Campbell, who was also playing for that same wank team :D

He outperformed his XG a couple of years ago in his Preston season to be fair to him. I wish he has what Moore had (at least a bit of physicality). I'd say as a forward, his style is closer to Brewster.

Cannon might not be prolific at Stoke but they aren't the most creative of teams this season, probably why they are down near the bottom this season.

If you look back at a lot of the games where Stoke pick up points, a large reason is because Johanson is keeping them in games, while their midfield and forward line creates very little going forward.

For Cannon to score 12 goals in that team (double what Campbell has in a more creative team) is impressive, he could get double that in a more creative team.

He's also only 22, so being average now so early in his career isn't a bad thing. You'd think he'd improve.

Yeah definitely, but are we in a position to drop £7m on someone who might be better in a few years?

exactly too many in this thread dismissing cannon hes playing in an awful team that arnt creating much he would score plenty in our set up imo having said all that do think a more realistic deal would be 5m with another 2m if we get promoted

Neither of us know that now, with the new owners. That's a risk averse view, too. You could ask are we in a position to not double our money on the investment, in a few years' time.

I'm not convinced by him either, to be fair. But just trying to look at it from all angles. What is true today isn't necessarily the case in the future, especially for a younger player.

You think then if he's playing in an awful team he'd manage to look better than them - and yet he seems to also look poor 🤔

Stoke have (surprisingly) made quite a few more big chances that we have this season (49 vs. 43). Manhoef and Bae are decent creators.

A lot cheaper than Brewster though!!! And I bet if he does sign we get a better return(safe bet I know). Guess I'm saying that in January 2025 - £7 million is not a bad price for a 22 year old who has some games under his belt at this level.
