Also, if anyone can Cannon can!

Sorry, it had to be said! 😂 Slight different spelling granted! Takes a great snap shot too!

I'll get me coat!

On one hand, I'm glad we're looking at deviating away from our current first choice striker, on the other I just don't think Cannon is the answer.

Admittedly I've only seen him in action a handful of times but he flattered to deceive in those appearances.

Cannon brewery closed in Sheffield years ago. However, Tommy Cannon brews up delight for Blades fans and says mines a pint

He seems to split opinion on the Stoke forum too.
It seems he’s not big, not good in the air, no pace, not a hard worker however he strikes a ball well and knows how to finish.

Seems the key to his success his providing him with chances.
A few on the Stoke forum have a theory that if he joined a better, more attacking team than them, then he’d look a far better player.
Pretty much what I was going to write.
For me he only ticks one box (finisher).
He may well help us go up, but if we get there he wouldn't be a starter.
For that reason I'd be looking at a loan only.

From what I’ve seen so far Campbell is more effective and was £7-10m cheaper.

We’ve got Campbell as the supreme finisher, Moore as a target man… I’d rather us go from some real raw pace and power as a totally different dimension / option to stretch games.

That’s assuming Campbell and Moore are going to be fit and available enough going forwards.

I’d like him but in typical sheff United fashion he’ll end up staying at Stoke

If it happens, regardless of it you want him or not, it tells us that the owners have the money to invest because £7m on one signing in the championship + big wages for bbd and HC is something we’ve probably never done before as a club in this league without selling a player for a big fee prior.

I’d be firmly in the gerrim in camp if the fee was like £3-4m but I’ve watched him a few times this season as he just seems too passive to be a £10m player.

He’s undoubtedly a good finisher but I think a £10m player should be more impactful with more outstanding attributes.

Imagine how much a 20 odd year old billy Sharp would be worth today. More impactful to the game and just as good in front of goal.

He’ll get my backing regardless if he joins but the fee makes me feel nervous

Was a 20yr old Billy impacting games? Thought he'd developed the all round game over time. Too long ago to have seen much footage of him at Scunthorpe tbh.

Depends how bad cambells injury is… and I’d never turn downs a decent finisher. We’ve not exactly been full of goals this year.

That said if you’d offered me BBD & 7m on a decent centreback. I’d be doing that over BBD and Cannon and scrabbling about for a CB.

i rate cannon and would like us to sign him but theres no way any championship club is paying 10m for him 5m seems right to me with maybe another 2m if were promoted but do think he would get goals in our set up

He’s been regularly scoring for a shit side. There’s obviously a reason wilder and owners are willing to spend a good chunk on him.

Not quite in open play. His NPxG (non penalty) from shots at goal places him 95th in the division and yet his shots on target per 90 puts him 6th best in the division comparable to Mehmeti and Sainz (similar amount of games played). To make sense of that you need to look at goals from shots on target, he’s ranked 168th in the division, this suggests his shot output is high and he consistently hits the target but without enough power and/or precision to bear the keeper.

Granted he’s an upgrade on Moore in the respect that his NPxG is better 5.8 (16th) Vs 4.9 (22nd) despite playing in a far inferior team, but KM has play 4 less games, and another player who we’ve been linked and who is out of contract in the summer Emil Riis significantly outperforms both at 8.2 (5th), let’s hope a pre-contract has been submitted.

Statistically he doesn’t standout as a player that’s fully developed consistency in his game he goes from being great one match to average run of the mill championship striker so it’s really difficult to suggest whether he’s a victim of a poor performing team or a lack of experience. A couple of things to mention is that he’s only young and if we can improve his shot selection and decision making he has the potential to be a very good goal scorer at this level. Is £4 million + adds on worth it? Yes. Is £7 million straight up? Only time will tell. Is £10 million? Go and get Riis and Kone for 4 million a piece.

Really don't think this is the one for us. Good finisher, but just doesn't contribute much else.

I think his all round game was better than cannons at this stage in his career.

He did a decent job running the channels and holding the ball up so Beattie could tap em in at times.

It was a skill set that grew and grew for billy too. He was exceptional in that side with Ndiaye and Gibbs white.

Not saying cannon can’t develop, he absolutely can. Just billy would’ve been worth his weight in gold now.

I'm just being pedantic because I'm bored and miserable. But Billy was (probably incorrectly) deemed not good enough for the Championship aged about 20. Cannon is deemed a top Championship striker.

I've not seen much of either of them at the age of 20 if I'm honest. But I'd happily sign them both this window😄

UTB

Edit: Just seen Cannon is actually 22. Think we signed Billy back at around that point. Though I've not done the maths.

He’d be a 45m striker if Cannon is rated at 10m.

All should be back apart from Souza

Seems to be a lot of 'experts' writing him off even before signing. Different club on a permanent deal with new tactics, players and management can do wonders for a player. As for the fee, he is young and worth the punt imo. It may or may not work out.

January is a tricky time to buy players, but the thing is, we don't have time if we want to be promoted this year. Remember, we only need these players to get us up into the Prem this year.

Riis at 1.5m would be a good deal, haven't seen enough of Kone but it seems very likely that at these prices he's a better punt than Cannon

We might be able to do all of the above?

Would you rather

Cannon 7m
Kone 3m
Riis 1.5m

?

I’ve just suggested this. Rather 2 for the less than price of one especially when Riis outperforms cannon statically and Kone would offer a replacement of pace for Campbell.
