A few quick points:

- The midfield: anyone got any clue about who those 4 players were because they were excellent to a man

- Quinny: after the last 135 minutes, I think I need to apologise for what I've said previously

- Defence: each player rock solid.

- Walker: when he's attacking like he did today, he looks Premiership class.

- Attack: Ched is still going to get stick, but I thought he was immeasurably better today. And Cresswell ran his testicles off.

- Palace: surprisingly poor.

- The ref: how to we keep getting these particularly 'special' officials. Stopping play for the Palace player standing up but still needing attention from the physio was my favourite bit.

- Blackwell: it's days like this when I hate him most. Why can we play one match in this attacking, pacey, fluid manner, but then the next match be lethargic and simply awful to watch. Whatever the reason, he deserves a pat on the back today.

today wasn't great, we played OK in the first half, then in the second half we went back to hoff ball. Still blackwell out for me, his managering skill is not up to standard.

just think were we'd be if we hadn't got cheap as chips !

Maybe in a better postion or Maybe in a even worse one, there is no saying, lets stop the knocking and get behind them for now and build on what we have got out of the last 5 games.

I was very happy with today's preformance not excellent but very good all the same.

Up The Blades!!

really enjoyed today ,first home game ive been to since leicester and the difference in the tempo of those 2 games was obvious

much prefer this more measured approach thought quinn and williamson were excellent and harper played well too

referee was awfull though as was his linesman ,the handball second half was the most blatant ive seen for years

I agree with most of that, but sadly I'd have to put Ched in the "garbage" category again. We should really cut our losses there and we might stand a chance of resurrecting the season.

I enjoyed the match today for the first time in some time.

Interesting how opinions differ! I thought today was Ched's best performance in a Blades shirt. I thought he got stuck in more, was much closer to Cresswell when he challenged in the air, challenged and won the ball in the air more and generally looked a little more lively. I still sense that there is more to come from Evans as he settles.

Mind you, I always said that about that Billy Sharp as well.

Wonder what he's up to these days ... ;)

Was that Harper's best game for us? And Williamsons? I think so, at least from the home games I've seen.

Promising stuff indeed. The only downside is that Palace were dreadful, so what on earth was the Jordan Stewart substitution for? Swapping Camara for Ched was a low risk and obvious option to take. But we chose to go defensive against a team that offered nothing.

I agree with most of that. 1st half we looked sh*t hot, but then reverted back to long ball in 2nd. Though we were gonna blow it when we went 5 in midfield/defence.
I think we need to get off Evans back. Like most strikers he needs a confidence boost, and its not as if hes been able to form a partnership with anyone, especially when 1 week we play him as a 2 up top, then the week after we drop to hendo up front alone. There isnt a striker on the planet who can thrive like that

Harper looked a good player today and Williamson - particularly first half - got forward lots and deserved his goal. I'm a big fan of Monty but he cannot expect to get back into the side immediately if Harper and Williamson keep that up. Harper sitting and Williamson getting into more advanced roles could be a way forward.

Agree re: Stewart sub. That's my biggest gripe with Blackwell. At home, keeping it tight. On Tuesday, 0-0 with twenty to go: should have gone for it a little more. UTB

Agreed but id definatly say its more down to how we play.

Mention for Harper he actually got stuck in abit more today and I noticed he was playing.

Quinn MOTM for me got stuck in, closed them down and took his goal well.

I actually enjoyed watching us today. A rare event this season.

Williamson was a bundle of energy but composed and measured on the ball. He was complemented by Harper who continues to improve as he settles in. Ward was his usual waspish nuisance to the opposition. I'm delighted to say that Quinny was excellent. So much better than when in disguise as Stefan Elpiton. I really hope no-one suggests that Monty should come straight back in.

The back four were largely unruffled by Palace but Andy Taylor merits a mention for a solid and effective 90 minutes. Walker showed why he's a bit special.

Cresswell was a lionheart today. He was a constant thorn in their side. A real physical presence and good awareness. Ched was much better today.

Well played lads. Not the completed article by a long way but a step forward. Let's hope
Blacko noticed that proper football can be effective.

Yes and he and the ref were perfectly positioned to see it, that Lino also missed the 3 occassions (that I can think of) of the ball taking deflections off palace players and going out (or at least thats how it looked for me on the Kop, maybe should have run down and offered my glasses to him?).

Also agree with Williamson and Quinn comments.

Lets see quickly, so I apologise if this isn't perfrect English or Grammar on display.

Bunn - Didn't have much to do but looks like his confidence has built again, looked comfortable, 7/10

Walker - Didn't make many mistakes today off memory matched Moses pace and got hacked down by the same player, reacted well on the break and brought the ball forward well. Couldn't he play right wing if ward was out looks like it may suit him well? 7/10

Morgan - A rock, silly foul but balantly wanted to let Lee know that if he was going to swing arms around then he had him to answer to, cleared and held the line well, 7.5/10

Killa - Dealt with quite alot of things on the ground coped fairly well in the half, this partnership is building again its a shame we may lose one half of it? 7/10

Taylor - Played well got elbow and bashed around by Lee, made a excellent tackle first half and come forward in support of Quinn, slipped and lost his footing a few times in the second but seemed to cope well. 6.5/10 only so low because he got bullied and pushed all over by Lee.

Ward - Ran them ragged today, really turned his marker a few times, created some good openings, held the ball a few too many times and maybe should have laid on Stewart but really wished he had scored. 8/10

Harper - Showed some real guile and passion, won a few things in the back area and played some simple football, come forward well and likes a shot shame it got blocked. 7/10

Williamson - Really controlled the midfield won loads in the air, brought the ball down well and brings players into the game, has a good touch, also likes to get into dangerous areas when hes up the front end of the field, looks like a very good signing so far. 8/10

Quinn - Was fiery and lively, played some simple balls well, ran at players and really caused them some problems a bright spark again, I really want it to be this quinn we see on the field week in week out, he had a great second half against Forest glad he took that so well too. 8/10

Evans - Played closer to his Cresswell today and generally looked like he wanted to do everything in his power to aid scoring and get on the sheet himself, touch looked miles better tonight and he battled hard in a physical game, if he plays better or at least like this every game he'll get goals 7/10

Cresswell - Hard working, managed to control and bring down some high balls too, won alot that he maybe shouldn't have and looked lively too, think he should have cracked that through ball from Wardy first time instead of trying the step over, but he showed alot of heart today. 7.5/10

Subs, Camara and Stewart, think it should have been Camara on for Ched, Stewart got himself into a position I thought he should have scored from but in the end game came good and these too just did their jobs well for the time they were on the field.

These are just my opinion, like I said we weren't great but played some good football in the first, had to cope with alot of pressure in the second, granted we maybe invited too much of this on, but we broke well and should've had another well before Quinny scored.

I really hope no-one suggests that Monty should come straight back in.

Well, I'm a big fan of Monty, but based on Blackwell frequently stating that if a player is playing well then he keeps his place in the side, and the performances from the midfield then I don't think Monty should come straight back in. As others have said our midfield was good today, so why should either Williamson or Harper lose their place because another player is available? They shouldn't, and Monty will have to be content with a place on the bench. His time will come again, for he is the horse-faced Zidane.

maybe one of his best, but still totally rubbish for me. I'll grant you he challenged more, but bounced off his man and failed in that time and time again, further extending the list of things he can't do.

Power, pace, an eye for goal, a target to aim for, composure on the ball, positional sense, basic skill. You name it, it seems Ched just doesn't have it.

:(

Best overall performance of the season so far for me today.
I was impressed by some of the through balls, and attacking in general was far more positive. Shots at goal today must outstrip the last few games entirely!!
Well done lads, things are looking up.
P.s The linesman in the 2nd half at the kop end was a complete cock and a half.

What a great day at the Lane today, great performance by the whole team and its not very often the whole team is praised!

The defence was solid,Walker is premiership quality!the midfield was class,Harper annoys me most games but today he had a really solid game as did Williamson and Quinny, nice too see the two midfielders on the scoresheet also.

Evans and Cresswell both worked hard also,Bunn had nothing to do all game.Pigs lose again!!! UTB!!!!!!!!!

Having just got up seen the result it's the clean sheets that we're starting to get again that is pleasing. Thats what last seasons charge towards the top was all about.
The run has started before Christmas this year.
Could we possibly be the ones to send the pigs down.

Enjoyed it. We were very good today, I don't think it would be fair to criticise any of them. The defence was really solid - I'm confused by beechblade's low mark for Taylor, thought he was very solid, and can't be expected to win an aerial battle against Lee when they were paired up.

Williamson - thought he ran the show.

It was pleasing to see how much we deliberately tried to keep the ball on the deck today, particularly Quinn. This is probably due to Evans and Cresswell being ineffective in the Hendo role, but still, it's something I'd like to see more of - Hendo is good enough with his feet to play that sort of style anyway. Evans desperately needs a goal. He doesn't look confident, but I thought he put in a much better performance today, and was unlucky not to score - he also set up a couple of decent chances for the midfield, and was involved in the very well-worked 1st goal. I thought he and Cresswell linked up reasonably well throughout.

Incidentally, Alan Lee - I'd forgotten what a horrible player he is, was always worried we'd sign him when NW was here.

Oh, the ref was garbage too, ably supported by one of the most inept linesman ever.

I thought that Evans had a very good game today particuarly in the first half when his running off the ball and flick ons were very good.

He needs a few goals but he's still learning so let's not right him off eh? We did that with Sharp and his values going up every game ;)

Yeah sorry about that but I think they targeted Taylor today, again though I think he played well. Maybe I'm being too overly crictical of him today, I like Taylor and certainly don't agree with some of the flack he can get. But like I said I think he was targeted and don't believe he was allowed to play his best game and I'm not expecting him to win those headers but the ref failed to step in when he should have and the hassle he was getting probably caused him more frustration than my own watching it, thats the only reason he got so low and thats just my opinion. :)

You know he will though don't you? Ched will be dropped and we'll play a 4-5-1 for the next couple of away games.

And rightly so! (Not saying that Monty should come straight back in though. That this was just about Evans' best game for us shows us just how woeful a signing he's been.

Cresswell on the other hand, bar a little hesitancy in front of goal, was excellent.

The only downside is that Palace were dreadful.

From 2nd down, there is nothing to fear in this league. Despite all the hoo-ha about the great football everyone else plays, you know what? They don't. There isn't a really 'good' side amongst them. There are ten or twelve teams who can go six unbeaten then six without a win. The league title is Newcastles to lose, but every other place is up for grabs.

Have faith and all will be well. Trust in the word of Dunc...
