Time for some player turnover ??

It's remarkable just how simple football management is.

Now sit back and let the 'Likes' flood in
Or maybe not, since some people are starting to see the merits of the original post in the couple of hours since it was revealed to be something as funny as Noel Edmonds.

I was having a conversation yesterday about Clarke's valuation and how it's probably a good example of how crazy the transfer market gets in January. He's had a mixed career, doing little at a lot of clubs but always being promising enough for someone else to gamble on him, he's the wrong side of thirty, and if he were to have a poor second half of the season his value would reduce to the "nominal fee" level. And yet, what's his price if say Villa were serious about signing him?

It'd be selling to a competitor close to us in the standings, it'd mean we were left short and needed to replace him, and we're not under any pressure to move him on given he cost us pennies relative to this division. Let's say the bidding started at £3m. Is that worth the damage it would likely to do to our season? Is that a price we need to sell for? Not really. So suddenly the aging Clarke in his best season in years becomes "worth" even more than that. Sentimentality aside, this is Leon Clarke we're talking about. A guy we rescued from having his career peter out at Bury.

The player is worth far more to us than any remotely sensible bid could touch. If his legs tire and he fades away he's still worth the cost of having his contract run out on us.

This will be controversial. And it’s based almost entirely on maximising player sale value.

If an offer of anywhere close to £750k comes in for Leon, we should take it and look to move on. His stock is as high as it will ever get.

Same for Sharp. But the fee slightly less. First £500k gets the job done.

BOTH have been quite poor for the most part in our recent bad (ish) run.

Both are not getting any younger. They won’t be on an improvement curve.

Bit harsh on 2 guys who have over 20 goals for us already. But I think it needs freshening up.

And £10m+ for Brooks should allow the gaffer to get 2 or 3 quality longer term replacements through the door.

It’s all about shuffling the pack. We will need to sell first, that much appears obvious.

Add in a couple of the other squad players to go out and Wilder might be quite active this next window.

UTB
I stopped reading when I got to sell our two goal scorers for £1.25m.

Am now sat in a state of total incredulity wondering who is going to cost less and get 20 odd goals in the second half of the season.

NURSE ........................

Someone's been on the sherry......instead of a turnover, it would gut the squad because the notion that there would be suitable replacements available, especially at the prices quoted, is nonsensical.

Evolution is always preferable to revolution, a gradual introduction of new players, then, when they've settled into their roles, that's the time to move out those players not destined to play for us again.

The value of this thread is that it shows how not to do it.
