"Supporters are advised to purchase tickets in advance as ticket prices increase on a match day by up to £2."

When did we start doing this?

Dont like it personally, seems like theyre just robbing an extra few quid off the fans. It doesnt make much difference to me but lots of people cant make it to the ground in the week so get stung an extra couple of quid.

This effects me. I can't make it into Sheffield on a week day so come Saturday have to get my ticket for home games on the day. Bit shit to be honest, but I accept it.

Why accept it? to me its just some snidy stealth tax, if they want the extra money then why not charge the extra £2 right across the board.

Isnt there a booking fee if you buy online or over the phone too so you cant realy escape it other than going to the lane on a week day.

Not the way to encourage the casual supporter and not fair on those who can't get to the ground in midweek to buy tickets in person the only way for them is online or by phone, both have a booking fee/tax. Is the (illegal) phone option still keeping you waiting on a premium rate number ?

They're just trying to persuade fans to purchase tickets in advance which would give the club a better chance of planning more accurately for the size of crowd (and therefore having enough pies / pie sellers etc).

Hasn't this always been the case? You pay more on the day as the club wants to encourage fans to buy in advance so that they can get things like catering planned.... Oh....

So we have the "Membership Card" price, the "Buy before the day" price and the "Match-day" price.

As the membership card gets £1 off, does this increase to £2 if buying a ticket before the day, or do members get only £1 off and everyone else £2 off?

I can think of only the Rail industry that would operate such a confusing approach to pricing. Is it any coincidence both operate with a captive audience?

As the tickets are normally on sale for a few weeks before a game, couldn't these casual fans find the time to pop down a week or so before the game....

I dont think theyve ever done it like this before but then Ive had an ST for as long as I can remember so dont normally buy them like this.

Id be absolutly amazed if there was any interchange of data about tickets sold to Compass before each game, if there is then they never act on it judging by their standards.

its just things like this realy piss me off. ive got a web host at the moment who keeps emailing me marketing messages which I normally ignore, every now and then I read one and keep finding small print at the bottom saying if you dont opt out of this we'll charge you an extra £1.23 for this aditional service you never asked for and will never need and as the increase is so small hopefully youl never notice that we're nicking an extra £15 of you every year. Twats

To be fair, its not just United, the majority of Clubs in the football league operate this as standard policy.

Some will charge more Peterborough and Port Vale for example (£3).

I don't think the dingles do...they just have a permanent price all year round...irrespective of opponents...whether it's us or Yeovil.

perhaps....... the most interesting pricing policy is demand based ticket policy operated by Derby, now that can be confusing

I've had a conversation with the ticket office about this. You can book your ticket before and cancel it any time before 1 pm on match day without penalty.

What time do the team sheets get announced - 1.05pm? :)

I could do, but find the queue for collecting tickets is actually usually longer than the one for buying. I'll pay 2 quid to avoid that. Also I don't usually know if I can make a match until the day

I've never found this. What time do you arrive for the game? The collection point is better-staffed this season too, it seems.

Strewth!!!!, try booking tickets at the Arena or City Hall then you really know you have been ripped off, 10% per booking plus postage and certain events even charge other fees that were supposedly outlawed but have just been cleverly renamed. Do like the man says "book your ticket and cancel on the day if its a no go.
UTB!

Yeah these companies are all arseholes! its not the amount that bothers me its the way they do it, like when Sports direct add on a shitty magazine and mug into your online order without telling you then you realise youve paid them a quid for their crappy magazine that just advertises their things and has the crappest content ever and another quid for a mug. its only a couple of quid but multiply that by the millions of orders theyl get a year and Mike Ashleys minted

If it makes you feel better, look at it as a £2 reduction if you buy before Match Day...

No it doesnt make me feel better, it makes me think that SUFC are desperate for cash and as my misses was 50/50 about going on Sat Im not gong to bother taking her now so in effect theyve lost £18.

As if £18 isn't expensive enough for a League 1 game anyway. And I know other teams in the division charge more than that, I just find ticket prices in general a joke

It is when you consider what we've been watching for the last few years, diabolical.

Not saying £18 isn't expensive, but £27 away at Swindon was absolutely scandalous.

In all likelihood it's going to lose a few casual fans and punish people who can't commit every week...as stated above.
Price rises should be in line with promotions etc IMO.

We've supposedly got better sponsors this year, good attendances, sold our star player etc...but thinking on, it's probably a two quid 'Ched-tax', 50-50 split between wage/lawyers employed for the shit-storm to come...

;D

And if you're a Swindon fan and you book tickets over the phone, they don't charge you £2 per transaction,.......but £2 per ticket

I didn't go to Swindon on principle, throw in the two little uns, at £12 each , Petrol, something to eat and drink, couple of programmes and we're over £100 to watch a League 1 Game..
