I’m going to see a band soon in a small venue that probably holds a couple of thousand, so they aren’t exactly a massive band. That’s costing me £35. Why should it be expected for United to charge significantly less than a band?

It’s 2024, everything has gone up in price. I’m sure some on here still think we’re living in the 90s.
Name the band & the venue! Please
Can't see why you didn't in the first place

£38 for 90 minutes of division one football against the likes of Derby County is outrageous, no matter how you try and frame it. Shame on you for trying to defend it.

You must never leave the house then, everything is too expensive by the sounds of it.

Then sadly … like fuel prices… food prices… we will continue to accept it until we are completely proved out …

£30 for a patent and child is plenty … especially when gate receipts are nowhere near as important as sponsorship and TV money

Might as well let us all in for nothing then if gates receipts aren’t important?

End of the day, it costs more to run the football club these days than it did even a year ago. I don’t see why the club should be forced to absorb all of that cost.

Makes me laugh mate players on £30k a week across the pyramid but yet working class
Folk should absorb the cost ….

Oil companies making billions yet working
Class folk should absorb the cost

But ok … it costs more so fair play … £30 is enough £40 would be acceptable …

But let’s take a sport that was for working class people and keep hiking the prices until ‘normal’ folk can no longer afford and put it in the hands of the wealthy

It’s bigger than one club pal…

I grew up in a household where we had to sacrifice and I mean sacrifice for a season ticket … it wasn’t fair then and it’s even more unfair now

And just because I could afford to pay treble what the price is now it still doesn’t make it right and it never will …

Football ⚽️ in fact any entertainment should be for all and not just the blessed few

The idea that United need to charge up to £40 for a home game against Burnley is total bollocks. Most of our money comes from TV revenue, and charging an extra £5-£10 a game makes very little difference in the grand scheme of things. We didn't even sell out yesterday because it's clearly pricing loads of fans out.

Clubs like United are a ticking timebomb in terms of attendances. The average age is about 50, nobody buys a ticket on the gate and the atmosphere is somehow getting even worse. At some point more and more people will decide it's just not worth the money. I wonder if United will magically be able to reduce ticket prices at that point?

The band probably plays Sheffield once every 2 years - at best.

United play in Sheffield once every 2 weeks - at least.

There's the difference. The band wouldn't be able to charge £35 every time if they played every fortnight. It's not a great comparison in the first place mind.

It won`t be long before I am priced out of attending matches. I am just hoping that prices for season tickets do not increase too much from last season. I am not confident of it, looking at current match day prices.

A common theme of mine is theft of the game from the working man. This is well illustrated by the cost of a ticket to stand behind the goal to watch Spurs last Saturday. How much ? £88.50 ! £98.50 if you had a seat, according to one of the Saturday newspapers.

Now I know that it isn`t Sheffield, but it shows a worrying trend. The vast sums of Sky (and other broadcasters) money going to Premier League clubs should make it possible to charge no more than £20 a ticket.

This is a no one is right or wrong discussion. I am not sure if I would be willing to pay £30+ for a ticket each week but I love the atmosphere of live games, love how much more you see of the game and while I have the money will pay to see the odd game when I am over.
To compare music to football is hard but both have a great live experience. With music you are basically getting what you expect. You know the songs, you know the outcome and you might be singing along yourself. With football you never know what you are going to get. It could be a 6 goal thriller or a dead boring 0-0. No refund at the end.
To watch The Cure recently was £100. I refused to pay and didn’t regret it, having read the reviews. Music should be cheaper than football, in my opinion
