CELTIC flop Thomas Gravesen could be set to end his Parkhead hell with a move to Sheffield United.

New Blades boss Bryan Robson was last night desperately trying to track down the Dane after making him his No.1 summer target.

He believes Gravesen can help lead United back into the Premiership at the first time of asking.

Robbo, who replaced Neil Warnock as manager last month following the Yorkshire club's relegation to the Championship, wants to take Gravesen to Bramall Lane on an initial loan deal with a view to making the move permanent should they make an instant return to the top flight.

United would be willing to pay the former Real Madrid and Everton star a £30,000 a week salary and Celtic won't stand in the player's way. Gravesen's move to Parkhead quickly turned sour despite goals in his first two Old Firm games. The 31-year-old Danish international midfielder started just 22 matches for the club after signing for £2million on a three-year deal.

Now he looks to have been frozen out and faces falling even further down the pecking order as boss Gordon Strachan plans to bring in midfield reinforcements for the new campaign.

Would be a great signing he did brilliantly at everton and he has got to have talent seen as real madrid bought him

That would be a good signing, and if we get re-instated to the Premiership he'd still be handy to have as well.

Would be a great signing, give a little bite back into the midfield something we were sadly lacking at times last season Monty apart...

Where do all the 30k a week quotations keep coming from IE Robbie Savage ????

Monty may well have bite, but he is possibly the worst 'footballer' I've ever seen.

Gravesen would be an awesome signing, dunno about the 30k a week wages though.

Nobody said he was good, just that he had bite, with a whole lot of heart with it. :p

If we can afford the £30k per week wages, why not? If it means we can attract better players, I'm all for it.

'Bobar' Balde would have been more accurate ...... Gravesen could do a job I suppose, and the way Celtic play was never going to suit him really, but £30k a week is a bit steep.

Can't help but agree.

He would be a fantastic aquisition, but come on, 30k a week?

Being linked again today
"Celtic midfielder Thomas Gravesen is poised for a shock £3m switch to Sheffield United. (Various)"

Could be the link that we sorely missed last season IMO.

But why not? If we can afford it - which I think we can - these are the kind of wages we're going to have to pay to attract bigger players.

Tbh i can't believe some people are saying this would be a bad signing.

£3million for a player of this quality would be excellent imo, and 30k a week would be well worth it.

It just seems a little funny to me that you wasn't looking at players of this quality while you was actually in the prem, he could definatly still hack it there, and him, or someone of his stature would have been an excellent signing last season.

Imo, would possibly be the best player outside the prem.

Everyone seemed to know that this was the type of player we missed.
Maybe Warnock saw things differently...maybe he tried but the right players wouldn't come...maybe Robson is getting more financial backing...who knows? But I agree that an in-form Gravesen would have made the difference last season

Thought everyone wanted a creative midfielder? not a defensive one?

But why not? If we can afford it - which I think we can - these are the kind of wages we're going to have to pay to attract bigger players.

I don't want to see the good financial work of the last 7 years go down the drain. Yes we could afford one player on 30k a week, not disputing that, but then you have a knock on effect from other players already there. Then new players you are bringing in.

had we stayed in them Prem then yes, snap him up.

Well i think even you know why we wernt looking at players like him when were in the prem. Warnock never had the pulling power to attract such a player. Which is why we ended up with players like Fathi who true has potential but was hardly the answer to our midfield last season.

£3 million and £30k a week is too much. He is a quality player, but why would we suddenly start wazzing money away when we've been so careful in the past? For that amount of dosh I don't care if he's good with the ball, off the ball or up a stepladder with a paintbrush, it's too much.

That's what Madrid thought and they got that oh so wrong as he is a box to box player and more effective off the ball i'd say.

Madrid wanted a replacement for Makelele who is a truly defensive midfielder (and not a bad one at that)

Anyway, I definitely think he'd improve our midfield. No idea what the wage structure is at the club though to be honest...

Nobody is disputing this fella,

Just saying, £3million and 30k a week is a bit excessive for a player who doesn't really have youth on his side.
