A new stadium near the M1 could be constructed for half the price we'd get for the land BDTBL is built on. What foreign owner looking to make a quick buck wouldn't at least take a look at that idea? Rotherham's new stadium cost about 20 million, something twice the size could be built for under 40 million.

McCabe has a lot of faults, but he's a Blade who knows all about the club's heritage and history. He'd never approve the Blades moving to an out of town stadium.

However, if he could sell with caveats in place - Blades must always remain at Bramall Lane, always play in red and white stripes and always be called Sheffield United would be three of them - I'd not object in principle

I'd rather be languishing in L1 at Bramall Lane that be in the Premier League playing in a soulless bowl at Catcliffe or Meadowhall

Not much will have changed there then, the meat in football ground pies has always been questionable. I must be the pie eating version of Captain Scarlet, indestructible ;)

Even on your figure that values the BL site at £80 million. Which I highly doubt is anywhere near the correct valuation. Then there are clearance and building costs for whatever is sited there, solid gold apartments which the glitterati would flock from Dore and the Mayfield Valley to live there is my guess.

Now Ched's back promotion to the PL should be a cert within a couple of years. They'll be queuing up to invest.

Total yield for BL including land purchase , planning , proffessional team for student accommodation , RPS housing , commercial , retail would be in the region of £60m.

To build a new stadium of say a capacity of 35 to 40,000 would be £80 to £100m.

There is no financial advantage unless we could have done a West Ham or ground share.

We do not have or want them luxuries . SCC have never assisted SUFC and never will .

Where did those figures come from? No way of knowing what planning permission would be granted for. There's a 21-floor block going up further down Bramall Lane, though. Housing worth hundreds of millions could potentially be built on the site. SHU or SU might be interested in locating a campus there. The cost of building a stadium varies widely too. A basic 25-30k capacity stadium (nowt fancy, with room for expansion) could be built for 40m.

I am involved on the 2no projects in and around BDTBL with regards student accommodation , RPS , retail and commercial.

Bearing in mind the strict planning conditions , sustainability , transport , no developer would be allowed to run amock.

You are in the right ball park for a very very basic , unfinished MK Dons type 25-30k stadium , but it's all down to providing something for the community , not a bowl that gets half filled every 2 weeks and a advert for a third world stadium , whose owners have run out of financial backing.

Also cost go up never down . We had a chance to relocate many years ago , and IMO the lack of assistance from Sheffield City Council has turned out to be a blessing in disguise .

We all have our hearts and roots in S2., and don't fancy visiting a site next to Drake House / Crystal Peaks.

Well if London Road turns into Knightsbridge and build costs reduce to levels akin to the 1950s, yes your appraisal works.
