United back to where they were when Chris Wilder first arrived
The issues the next Blades manager must address are identical to the ones Wilder faced when he first arrived back in 2016
'Sheffield United are on a downward spiral and back to where they were when Chris Wilder arrived'
There is, if we let our attention entertain the idea for a moment, a great risk of this being the start of the unravelling, rather than a brief challenging period before the Championship resurgence begins. The latter is looking increasingly unlikely, IMO.We've currently got a side that are out of form, low on confidence and totally lost in terms of having a blue print or style of play that they subscribe to. We're also lacking depth in a number of areas, and facing the prospect of bids for what quality players we do have, over the summer. This isn't, IMO, a quick fix - and yet at the same time, it somewhat needs to be, as every season in the Championship risks further cutting of budgets and further reductions in quality.
I'm not all doom and gloom, but I do understand the sentiment of the article, that we risk being closer to where Wilder first delivered us from, if we don't get things right this summer. Notable, but sensible spending is needed, damage limitation (in terms of key players lost) is needed, and a reassuring managerial appointment (i.e. not the cheap option!) is needed. It's a huge summer ahead.
For me, forget anything up until this point almost, this is the real test of the owners.
