The warmest stand at Bramall Lane?

The kop corner used to be the "juvenile pen".

I also seem to remember you could pay to get off the kop and onto the John St

You could indeed - I can remember the 1 turnstile as part of the walkway out between old John Street and kop corner. It was open when I started watching in 67, but then it closed, even though it remained a feature for a while. Perhaps when all the trouble kicked off mid 70's. Think it was 6 old pennies to transfer.

So question for the "old ones"............when did that turnstile close?

Real Madrid's stadium has heaters in the roof all way round - Anyone know Mel Branigan personally? Have a word............

Should take the approach that Madrid have...install heaters on the roof! Went a few years ago in the middle of feb and it was only a few degrees outside but warm enough to take your coat off in your seat. Class.

There is nothing colder than a winter in Madrid . Real Madrid put the heating in after complaints of the cold by there bourgeois supporters . I went to Madrid in December to watch a proper football team , in a traditional stadium ,who also played in red and white stripes , whose supporters put up with the cold like we do.

Yeah, I sometimes still call it the 'new' stand - it's only 40 years old! Anyway, I went earlier on Saturday to get a Spurs ticket. Things went swimmingly so I was sat in the 'New' South Stand at 1.50. Fucking hell it was cold. Thankfully, a great performance eventually warmed me up.

Well it will be cold if you sit there for over an hour before kick-off, what's wrong with you

Ahha - the poor relations of Madrid, Athletico.

Always been an ambition of mine to "see" the big stadiums of the world and did Real Madrid a few years ago....it was bleeding expensive - 75 Euro from memory !!!

What did Athletico cost?

We'd stick half a dozen of these to the roof.

Cost us 25 Euro and a great experience.

I often wonder how we would perform In blue shorts. (Just a dream that one Fulwood ) :)

Not been to Madrid, but it would have to go some to be colder than either the Allianz in December or the Wesser Stadion in February.

It took a good month for em to drop back out again! Missus Canterbury was not a happy bear!

Aye... it was bloody freezing on Saturday. And to add insult to injury, the roof was dripping on me when it started raining.

Am I old enough to take a lap blanket yet?

I believe next winter's retro look will be a snood.

F*ck it was cold in the New Stand on Saturday.

***incredibly dull fact begins***

When Chelsea built that massive East Stand back in the '70s, they installed vent holes under every seat with the intention of pumping warm air out on cold days. The system was never completed.

Ken Bates had some great ideas , second one was going to Leeds.

Well this is the cookie. I found a heated seat warmer with the added bonus of some form of buttock massaging capability. The thought of attending United matches has never sounded so pleasurable.
Back in the old days the corner bit of the kop was one of my favourite vantage points. It's odd that the 3 areas with great views (Bramall Lane upper, kop corner and the bit between the south stand and Bramall Lane) are hardly used or inaccessible. The south stand corner should be singing corner in the way that John Street West used to be.
