Floodlight related Blades fact, Harrogate Railway (not the League 2 team) ground played their first game under floodlights in 1991 vs us in a friendly "under the lights"

Thanks for the reply. I thought you might be interested in bits and pieces from my scrapbook, but he moved very soon after I started it. The only picture I have is from an away match at Charlton, just before his transfer. I assume the caption confirms what you say:

I have a copy of the programme for the match my main direct memory of him comes from -away at Notts County, my first ever away match, on a snowy day. Unfortunately, the programme says little about him, and he missed 2 penalties!

The next home programme is very forgiving, because of the snowy conditions:

And then in the next home match, he missed another penalty! I have no idea if he continued taking penalties…
Never seen these before— awesome from so long ago! He did take a pen with his wrong foot once and that went in but do remember him telling us about the 2 missed ones in a match. I see Colin Grainger left just before my Dad? He was my Mums brother- he passed away a couple of years ago

‘Awesome’ is not the word Mrs HBT would use to describe my collection🤣 Your relatives should have been a clear warning as to what a lifetime following United would bring - just when you get a hero, the club sells them… But I was lulled into a false sense of security by the years following those sales - the late 50s/early 60s United had a team which hardly saw any changes for several years.
I was 10 years old when your dad and your uncle were sold (hope I’ve got those relationships right), and my main direct memory of your dad is the 2 missed penalties (sorry!). Colin Grainger was a glamour figure, and my main direct memory of him is, strangely, a TV moment. We had just got a telly when he was picked to play against Brazil for England at Wembley. I think it was a midweek afternoon, and I must have managed to have a stomach bug or similar to have the afternoon off school, because I saw the match live on TV, and Colin Grainger of Sheffield Utd, SCORED TWO GOALS. I was so proud.
If you have any stories etc that you feel comfortable sharing with us, please do. Quite understand if you prefer not to.
