The Wage Structure

And for the umpteenth time I ask the question "where were the higher bids?".
If the bids aren't high enough, and I know this is a wacky idea but bare with me... hang on to them????

Maguire for £2million was a joke.
Walker didn't need to be sold way back when for such a small fee.

They are players that we knew were going all the way to the top.

Che Adams was subject to a bid of £10million last season...

And if Hogan flops?
Any signing can flop but a signing proven to be good in the championship is much less likely to fail than one who's never played in the division before which is why they cost a premium.
And can you name me anyone in the lower leagues you think are even worth considering? Because beyond Mohamed Eisa who only scored as many as Marc McNulty in League 2 and the pricey Jack Marriott at PBoro I'm struggling.

How does it work then Danny? Do we put an offer on the table and hope the player just drops his demands or do we keep upping it slightly each week? Are we far off?
I don't know if you have much insight to that kind of thing but for a complete outsider like myself I've no idea what happens or why things take so long.
I mean if we are 20k of Hogan and Gallagers wages surely that just means it's dead and we move on,right?

Compromise and patience. It’s a game of brinksmanship, really. And other targets are being looked at aside from the other two, Chris isn’t camped outside Villa Park ignoring everyone else :D

No one - hence why I said if...

Great - you're suggesting totally unrealistic players who'll cost 8 figures rather than a substantial loan fee and wages. Brilliant.

I don't disagree but pin all your hopes on a Hogan for Brentford and you can easily end up with an Eoin Doyle for Preston. We can't afford to make that mistake.

No, what we can’t afford is to raise the wage budget to a level we can’t afford in the hope Hogan will score the goals to get us to the premier league!
Mitrovich on loan? Worked for Fulham??
So substantial loan fee of what? 800k day...plus his wages? For one season?? GENIUS!!

Some might say that Hogans contract at Villa has placed him in the “unrealistic” player category too, but what’s unique is Villas financial situation. United are hoping they can rip them off. Villa are staying put as long as they can.
It’s a game. We shouldn’t just cave in like you suggest and pay whatever it takes.

Wilder should have a cut off time, and then move onto other targets. Simple.

And let’s just see what happens with the lad Marriott by the way.
He’s moving somewhere for sure...I wouldn’t rule united out. If the lads head is screwed on beyond the best wages and other factors take a priority for him, then United may well hold the biggest draw of them all!

What are you talking about you knobend?
Mitrovic was much more rich than Hogan. He had premier league wages, there's only Fulham or Wolves that could have afforded him.

I don't know if you've noticed but we're under 3 weeks from the start of the season and our backup strikers to 2 33 year olds are Caolan Lavery and Ched Evans. With 2 30+ year olds supporting them.
We don't have time to play games, we're not in a position to do so. We have replaced a loan goalkeeper with a loan goalkeeper - that's it.

He's a blade, he'd come in an instant but there's no way we're paying the money PBoro will want for him.
Apart from him there's only Mohamed Eisa worth signing from 1 & 2 but then he only scored as much as Marc McNulty in League 2 last year.

The options in the lower leagues in terms of strikers are much worse now than in recent years. We could've done with an overseas scouting network - not like some of us have been bleating about that for years.

I can't argue with Walker. No one can. No one bid higher for Maguire. No one bid higher than Leicester either. His development has been far and above what anyone expected. Adams? Would you be happy if we paid £10m for him. And who bid more at the time we sold him.

No one bid bigger for Harry but we sold him very early when there was no need to judging on the fact most of the money we got for him was reinvested (badly). Could we have held out for £5mil? I think so, our player of the year and team of the season for 3 consecutive years.
I think Leicester bid a fair amount, wasn't in £17mil?

No, not at all, I liked Adams but he was a twat. Just making a point at the amount you can get for players these days with just a bit of development. We had no higher offers at the time but the goals against Spurs put him in the shop window and we didn't really wait to find out what might materialize did we?

I have noticed funnily enough.
Hence the agreement that we need strikers and Wilder (you know...the manager) stating very clearly that we are prioritising strikers.

The key part of you comment being 3weeks, coupled with the fact transfers are completed in seconds means somebody somewhere is getting their g string in a twist!
Sadly, its knowsnowt morons ranting and raving, wanting it all now, demanding they get their way otherwise they will squeem the house down that make this whole part of the season very tedious.

Negotiations are ongoing for several strikers. Negotiations mean (for the benefit of folk like you) that each side “negotiates” on the fees to suit themselves. This ensures they get the best deal possible so they can use their maximum budget to its greatest effect.
I can tell you this...don’t give a shit if you believe it or not...but it’s not uncommon for player transfers to be negotiated over several months. Often during the closed window (shock horror), so that is the reason old Wilder was getting rather miffed by the ownership wrangles when he did!

I can absolutely 100% guarantee that United won’t start the season with Evans and Lavery as the back up strikers.
Hogan won’t be here, because rightly Wilder will have moved on. Hogan will start the season at Villa.
That’s his problem not ours. We will still score goals.

Jordan Rhodes? You put all your eggs in one basket and if it all goes wrong?

As for players in the lower leagues, no I can't. Either way, because I don't have the inclanation to pass comment on players based on seeing them on TV for two minutes or on stats websites which make people believe they're experts. Robson didn't shop lower, wasted millions - as have many other club managers before - so it's not that simple. But you still don't seem to want to address the realities of cash flow and annual losses.

It happens. That's football.
Robson also signed some of the best players I've seen at the lane since the turn of the millennium - so swings and roundabouts.

But Chris is happy with the budget and we haven't been linked to 1 single lower league player yet. According to a good friend of his we aren't in the lower league market at the moment. Doesn't that signal to you that maybe the budget we have is an ample Championship budget? It's not my job to look into financial issues - we have a budget to play with.

I wondered if that was known...him being a blade and all.
Perhaps United are his preferred choice. Maybe other clubs are willing to pay more than United but he won’t look at them?
Maybe Peterborough are doing what they always do and quote Pie in the Sky fees to the press to appease fans etc, but will end up taking half that in the end as nobody walks in to pay it?
Maybe we are still negotiating on him??

He’s going somewhere, I wouldn’t rule him out. And he’s a direct replacement for an aging striker in style and finishing ability.

Perhaps we will take Marriott and McGoldrick for the same cost as one Hogan?? Wouldn’t that make more financial sense??

He was sold 18 months after the goals v Spurs, how long should United have waited?

Coutts. Fleck.
Best two midfield players bar NONE in the 35 years I’ve neen going to the lane. Cost what?? 200k maybe plus wages??
Robson paid silly money achieved nothing like those players.

The longer into a transfer window it goes the more teams panic. You see it every single window.

That works both ways. Panic buys and panic sales too!!
You can’t have it just one way to suit your flawed argument

The first team already get win bonuses and appearance money, which rises and falls dependant on league position. Plus bonuses for promotion.

It didn't help last season :(
Then if that’s the case they can’t complain about wages. In the real world anyway.

You think the budget is ample? To buy players and increase any wage ceiling?

The years since March 2018 you mean?

You're right about one thing though, you have got years worth of bleating in since that date.

Well done.

I've been here a lot longer than march - but thanks for your concern :)

So, can someone explain to me in detail what our wage structure is and how potential signings are being factored into this?

Presuming with 11 pages of discussion someone knows what it is.

I don't know, I don't know it. But considering Chris is happy with it, happy enough to sign a new contract in the summer, one would assume so.
