From the moment the final whistle went at Brentford on Sunday, I have found myself watching the clock and counting down the minutes to 12.15pm tomorrow (US time). My excitement has been steadily building, my thought processes moving quickly to 'I am thinking of nothing else but Saturday'.
I am going to a Pink concert in Detroit on Saturday night and I have told my wife we will be delaying our trip until after the game. Thankfully she understands that I have SUFC blood pouring through my veins and, while reluctantly agreeing to the delay, she fully understands.
I have twisted my brain every which way over this game: will we be the bottlers, will we play awful, will we make horrendous mistakes and gift the game to Ipswich?
But no matter the permutations that I conjure up in my brain, it comes down to a single thought...
I simply cannot see, no matter how I look at it, that the boys will pass on this incredible opportunity to go to the promised land. It is inconceivable to think that the team, individually and collectively, will not work together, pass well, drive to the net, pick up stray balls in midfield, and not have that singular objective in mind: we will win and be there! Each and every player will play their hearts out, push their weary legs to the physical extreme, and get every ounce of mental fortitude out of this game because..... the prize is too great not to do so.
I will have a sleepless night tonight. I have been a Blade for 62 years, experienced the ups of EPL and the bottomless pit called the 4th division. I have watched some incredible games both at BDTBL and on TV but, in recent times, and with an incredible manager at the helm, and a team working as a team, and a fan base at the Lane tomorrow driving the team forward, this is THE game.
I won't be at BDTBL but I will be on my sofa watching from Toledo Ohio and I will be with you in spirit, every single one of you.
And at the end of the day tomorrow, maybe, just maybe, we will ALL feel the the power of the EPL paradise.
Good luck to the team tomorrow and to all you great and loyal Blades, ENJOY THE MOMENT.
