I believe it’s named for the Midland mainline apparently. Think I read it was popular with the people working on there at one point.

While we are at it:

The Sheldon? Sheldon Road is over a mile away in Nether Edge.

The Hermitage? London Road never struck me as a place for quiet contemplation.

I have read somewhere about its origin but can’t remember where or what. I’ve tried searching online and in a couple of Sheffield pub books I’ve got but to no avail. It’s annoying me now!
