Yes & no, T1889. Yes, you're 100% right about the three ticks; job done & onto Villa and the next round, but 'no' in respect that that level of performance was woeful from near enough our best 11. As bad as i've seen this season at home, by a long chalk. Lacking ideas, lacking leadership, lacking direction, sloppy passing, poor tempo, Sharp looking a spare part, etc. against as poor a side as i've seen. Preston appeared to be playing for the draw from kick off.
The game either offered an opportunity for basically the 1st 11 to keep up momentum & improve confidence or a the chance to put out a 2nd string and experiment. We've done neither, and although we've won, that will raise more questions than it's answered. Steve Bruce was at the match and he was perplexed as everyone else.
Near enough our best 11 with 7 changes??
Did to me at the time, and just seen it on the telebox. Definite penalty.
So you're saying that 7 of the starting 11 today aren't 1st choice or close to 1st choice? I personally thought lafferty & heneghan were what I'd describe not being in that bracket, but each to their own.![]()
Ched brought link up play & intelligent running when he came on.
Who is the person who invaded the pitch?Just back. Good god it was awful. The too highlights were the pitch invader & CW opening himself up for an personal injury claim.![]()
Who is the person who invaded the pitch?
I hope the stewards broke his neck.

We looked out of sorts today going forward.
Duffy was sloppy for most of the game and so was Lundstrum. Fleck spent most of his time tidying up after them which meant there was little creativity in the middle.
Surprised The Don, Sharp or Evans saw any of the ball as we resorted to just punting it forward for a fair amount of the match.
Good result though as I thought we had the better of the game despite how off we looked. Not sure what those Preston fans were yapping about.

he was just some toothless yokel, he just got a bit light headed by being in a big city and a real football stadium, stewards were giving him the chance to get off the pitch but he would not , so they took him down, head lock, walk of shame in front of the home crowd
No ticks from me for the performance Nick, just replying to the poster. It was dire tbh, the few bits of quality came from their side and we were lucky imho
Not at our best but thankfully still good enough to win id say we were the better team had plenty of chances thinking of fleck denied by that brilliant save to tip it over the bar. But struggled offensively with cutting edge but at the other end i thought the defence were brilliant henegan good debut. bar a few long range shots & that brilliant stop at the end we didnt look like conceding & chuffed to bits to be in 5th rd.
How that dreadlocked guy for Preston stayed on the pitch for 90mins i dont know. He was like cat with 9 lives
