Its extremely unlikely that a sensible manager who has proper football at the very heart of his philosophy will have a non-footballer as an immovable and permanent fixture in his team.

Playing Devil's advocate here - Nick Montgomery has played every minute of every league game he has been fit and available for this season, and has been selected as Sheffield United captain.

This is the choice of Danny Wilson, the Sheffield United manager who has begun to implement a shorter, quicker passing game.

From the misplaced smugness ,to the ridiculous nicknames ,to the total lack of knowledge of players ,systems or tactics you have become the most boring poster I have come across ,and thats saying something.

Yes that's all absolutely correct, of course, but Stephen Quinn...?

Bit harsh on Ballham there Sitters

The next player? I haven't finished with The Maestro yet!

I doubt that there will be one. Its extremely unlikely that a sensible manager who has proper football at the very heart of his philosophy will have a non-footballer as an immovable and permanent fixture in his team.

Why are you all so reluctant to acknowledge Quinny's withering comments on kick-and-rush, long ball garbage?

I'm not reluctant to comment. I've not heard his comments. I asked for a link to the interview so i could listen, unfortunately i have not had one. even if i do I may not choose to comment. You seem to want to put me in some sort of bracket or group. By the very nature of your statement something like ''What do you think of that then eh eh''. pushing for an answer on a comment i've not heard and you trying to suggest i belong to a certain style or support as such.

You can keep to your 'MOP' crew and hide behind where you think people belong.

You used to say quinny will never make a footballer and now you believe otherwise is that correct?

What about Stephen Quinn ,he was awful for the first part of last season ,and it wasn't all down to style of play ,he had a complete loss of form and was rightly critisised as his attitude was not good either. He has come out of this to his credit ,whether it be down to Adams and Wilson or himself and now is playing really well. Collins and Doyle and Cresswell have all done the same ,Monty is also showing signs of it. What is there to get all smug about ? All you have ever done is hammer the aforementioned players and give them girly nicknames ,hardly the all seeing eye.

Why the obsession with evidence? It's a bleedin forum not a court, my opinion is that pound for pound Blackwell is one of the worst managers in the history of professional football. Obviously the stats are there and obviously he took us to Wembley but yiou lot clapped us to relegation, simple as that as in my eyes.

So even though the evidence is against you you are right and the evidence is wrong.

Priceless.

Ultimately though, the winners are (not surprisingly) the best footballers and the best footballers play pass and move - not kick and rush. This applies at all level of the game - witness Brighton and Soton rightly winning the league last season.

On 25th April 2010, under Blackwell, we beat Swansea 2-0 (Cresswell, and o.g.). Swansea were a team that we would all agree were a much better footballing team than us. They had 58% possession, more shots (15 to our 7), more corners (10 to our 4), yet we came out on top.

This is an isolated example and it could be argued that it is meaningless, but it isn't. You seem to be suggesting that cultured football always wins out, but this just isn't true. Skill can be beaten by commitment, desire and workrate, and in fact it often is. You give the Barcelona example, but you are ignoring that Spanish football, like Italian football has traditionally been about slow build-up play passing it around the defence. Get away from Barcelona and watch some of the lower Spanish or Italian teams and its a borefest of pointless passing. What you're actually enjoying is the 'best players in the world' not their style, per se.

Anyway, I think we've done this whole discussion to death enough times now. I'm through...

So even though the evidence is against you you are right and the evidence is wrong.

Priceless.

Could not give a flying toss about your evidence. He was given millions to spend and produced some of the ugliest football imaginable and a squad which left us in the pub league. That's an opinion, this is a forum. Nobody is right, nobody is wrong.

But it is right isn't it that it wasn't Blackwell who left us in a "pub league"? We finished in the top half of the league every season where we finished with him in charge

It's getting like a fucking playground.

"You are a wee-wee face."

"I know you are but what am I?"

Bicker, bicker, fucking bicker. This I/you/we/they  hoof bollocks is so tedious it's untrue.

If this discussion were to take place in the pub then there may be many who would proffer the advice of "Grow up, for fuck's sake."

I agree. If theres one thing worse than cliquishness its cliquishness between non existent cliques.

You haven't given sufficient weight to 'ultimately' Dunc. Of course the 'Monties' will prevail from time to time. We've seen enough giant-killing over the years to know that. In the end, however, when the trophies are handed out, they go to footballing teams.

Why do you think the best players in the world opt to play, as they patently do, proper pass and move football? Would they remain the best players in the world if they played kick-and-rush?

It's two sides of the same coin, Dunc. The best players play the best football - the football they play is pass and move [and it's wonderful to watch].

It would have to be a Blades pub, SV. The fans of other clubs have moved forward into the 20th century and understand that longball went out with the dinosaurs. Only at SUFC do we cling onto outdated, failed, discredited methods like limpets. In truth the argument was won and lost years ago, except at Neanderthal Downtown Bramall Lane.

We are at last changing our wretched style and shaking off our shabby image. Stephen Quinn made some hugely instructive remarks on the subject, including overt criticism of two recent managers. You'd think Blades' fans would want to comment, wouldn't you? Instead they speak of breakfast cereals, boredom and the voices in my head!

A cynic might think they are avoiding the issue!

Wilson
got the job as manager
managers are judged on results , nothing else,
weve made our best start for over 40 years , so theres only one real answer as to how hes doing

The fact we are playing attractive entertaining football is just subjective, any relevance on that we can praise after weve been officially promoted

Erm - that the current managers breed of football has brought the best out of Quinn? Or that Tony Pulis has brought the best out of Kenwyn Jones? Dont we all agree? A tireless bore you are, but I think everyone agrees here. Serioulsy, what IS your point?

This is absolutely my last word, as we are spinning around a bit now over semantics, but...if you have the best players you can play the best football, yes agreed. But then Arsenal have been the best 'pure' football side in England, lovely to watch but they have this habit of getting done over by a bit of good old fashioned enthusiasm and graft.

The more you write Pinchy, the more you remind me of the story of the Father who says to his Son, 'You're 25 now Son, you should be married'. 'Oh' says the Son, 'I haven't really found what I'm looking for in a wife'. 'Really?' says the father 'What are you looking for?', so the son thinks and says 'I want a wife who is beautiful, a wife who is kind, a wife who is smart...' The Father stops him and says 'Son, you're really looking for three wives...'.

We aren't Barcelona, we've got fat thighs and fart in bed. Be happy and love what you have...

Thats the confusing part for him. He's now arguing with the extra voices. one voice saying 'Qunny's great' the others saying 'Quinny boots long' and the rational of it all means he cannot answer my question because the confusion while typing will make his keyboard explode. how does he explain that the man he once despised and said 'he'll never make a footballer', he now loves so much. How does he work out that when Doyle starts to turn his head?

If it were in the pub, you'd have commented on Pinchy's Nick Montgomery t-shirt by now :)

Ahh heard a little snippet on RS this morning. He said something like, ''Its hard when the fans get onyour case but I'm glad I've come out smiling the other side''.

Now ,Just in case he reads this forum Pinchy, would you like to express an apology to him for the pathetic name you gave him and the week after week of slgging him off?

No. It was entirely justified. I do applaud him, though, for the massive improvement in his performances. The interview actually concentrated on his views on the two recent managers who prevented him from playing the game the right way and how much he appreciated DW for playing proper football. In other words Blacko the Clown and Quickfix  Hoof. Do you agree with Quinny?

Apart from the fact that he was actually playing quite well under Adams.....

Again how can i comment when I've only heard a little snippet. I'm not going to comment on your interpretation of what he said. After all I've told you for two days I've not heard it so wont comment and you kept pushing some issue that no one on here agreed with and decided to omit the part Ive heard this morning about fans getting on his back. YOU ON THIS SITE WERE THE MAIN CULPRIT OF THAT.
So to me your whole argument and credability of the argument goes out of the window because of your omitions.
You now respect him for something he said or the way he is playing or both, YET YOU WILL NOT APOLOGISE TO HIM FOR YOUR SLATING OF HIM. Its clear the man was going through a difficult period and lots of us still believed in him and supported him and respected him -YOU WERE NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE.
Next time i walk by and your on fire in the gutter I ...........................................................................................................

What you actually spent the last couple of years doing was pouring vitriol on a player for playing in a way that the manager was telling him to. Based on both his performances & comments this season, I would certainly have been apologising if I had done that. It is now clear that the last thing he ever wanted to be was "Elpiton", and certain of our fans made a bad situation even worse for him, as he made clear in the interview on Radio Sheffield this morning.

The fans of Sheffield United are much like the fans at other clubs. I have Arsenal fans telling me quite often that theyd trade some of the tippy tappy for a trophy.

A cynic might if he was also a fool. Anyone not trying to give form to some imaginary clique might note that this thread has now reached 6 pages dicussing the issue.
