Guy ont radio said Fleck straight in for Lunny hahaha Gior lad!
You disagree? I know this is a Lundstram appreciation thread (and last week I likened him to Stevie G) but Fleck is one of the best players I've ever seen in as United shirt, other than Duffy he's the most irriplaceble player we have.
Damn right he comes straight back in.

Well , he did. I want him to do well, like all our players.but he wasn't as good as at villa. Duffy was MOM as I saw it. Each to there own

Name me one player who never gives the ball away?

*Coutts doesn’t count as, despite the song, he also gave the ball away occasionally.

To be fair, Coutts and Fleck often make mistakes as well. It would be very unfair if Lunny lost his place to a new signing in Jan (RL)

But It seems that will happen

Back in for Lundstram though? The player who has arguably been our best player over the last 2 games?

Who are we signing that’s going to take Lundstrams place?

If he has to be yeah.
Lundstram has come on leaps and bounds. He came in when the fans were in shock, down in the dumps, stepping in for a player who had the BEST PASS COMPLETION IN THE LEAGUE at the time and he started off shakey.
Since then he's not hid, wanted the ball, got his confidence up and got better and better. If you're MOTM arguement is to be believed, surely if was Donaldson at Villa and Duffy today but i get your point.
Fleck is our engine though, do you know what - I don't mean to be arsey but I can't be bothered to argue Flecks case, if you dont think he's a guaranteed starter for this team then I've been watching the wrong player.

I wasn’t disagreeing with your assessment that Fleck should come back in so you don’t have to argue Fleck’s case. I was asking if you would put him in for Lundstram. My point of Lundstram being our best player over the last two games wasn’t really my argument, it was based on opinions I’ve read on here and from other people I’ve spoken to, hence why I said ‘arguably’.

Straight back in yes, but not for Lunny is what I was getting at. May have to be CCV who makes way. Someone said Bash is suspended but I've not checked this.

Got ya.
Personally (and with how Bolton play) I'd put Bash into the back 3 and play Lundstam and Fleck with Duffy in his usual hole.
Sorry I thought you were saying you wouldn't have Fleck straight back in the team at all.
I feel reyt sorry for Bash playing all over the shop but that is his strength I suppose.

Lundstram gave it away 8 times in the game. The majority in the first half. He scored a goal. He declined two other good shooting opportunities. He neshed one tackle. He made four wrong decisions leading us to retreat. You may think that I am being over critical, but quite frankly since his introduction and the late arrival leg and arm waving performances he has improved immeasurably. Today, despite the above I could consider he was worthy of a place and looked an asset.
Were you just tracking him? If so, do you choose a player each game? If so, how can you just enjoy the game if all your energy is used to analyse players.

We were a lot more direct today i liked the look of the don and leon up front think they could become a great partnership given time

Duffy aside we tended to go long today but it worked well with the front two putting a good shift in

I think so, yes.

I thought we were very good today, without being overly stretched by a poor side admittedly. Fleck for Bash in midfield would've made us even better, and will do so against Parkinson's hoofers on Saturday.

As for Lundstram. Apart from being more physically combative when needed, could anyone really have distinguished him from Coutts today ? Totally top performance.

He was even wearing Coutts' socks.

Even the backheel onto their defender in front of the Kop to win us a corner was very Coutts like.

Agree about Bash dropping into defence for CCV to make space for our Scottish hero, we said the same in car on the way home. Subject to suspension confirmation

I think he's excellent and have liked him from the offset and have never understood the moaners, the same ones probably who were slating Coutts
People are saying he's only young at 23 and can develop into a better player and I'm sure he will get better.
However,Tony Currie was playing for England age 22 and that puts things into perspective a little bit.How good would it be to have a TC in this team today.
Maybe David Brookes may have the potential if he kicks on and doesn't get carried away with all the hype about himself.

No, I don't enjoy any game. Too nervous! :D;)

I have been critical of Lundstram, I don't think I can have a valid critical opinion unless I watch him properly. I can also say that if pressurised he runs out of options and then panics and turns back to goal. He is a fine player when given time. Not so much with no time in a tight space. He is a Carrick. He is not a Scholes if you see what I mean. Still, he's starting to look the part but I think he would be better in a different formation and at least now I have some confidence that he will make it with us, maybe properly next season.

Nailed it mate .

If Bolton still play the same way then it's not about winning the headers against Madine - it's about competing and winning his knock downs. I don't think any of our CBs can compete with him in the air so just challenge him and focus on picking it up. I think Bash will be better than CCV for his all round contribution in the game.

A win on Satdi to take into the Derby FC match will see us in good form going into the Derby.

I would take a point now against the pigs to keep them at arms length - 3 points would be awesome!

UTMB!

what a really weird thread.

Lundstram isn’t Paul Coutts but is a very decent young footballer, that’s why we spent so much of the summer transfer fund on him.

We do have some odd fans. I was discussing it with my 14 year old daughter after the match today, she’s played competitively at a high level for 7 years now and, happily, knows much more about football than many on this thread. She thinks Lundstram is excellent, some of you will disagree but she has played at a higher level & knows more than you, so pipe down

He's suffering a little from the lack of Fleck, we move and create far less space with the golden three broken up, meaning that Lundstram is often played hospital balls and has the attention of three men.

When we do that to a confident Coutts he simply calmly turns on the ball or something, but also has the benefit of someone dragging around the opponents and/or finding space for themselves.

This is also one of the reasons Lundstram has to resort to (albeit often good) 'Hollywood balls'.

We're far less fluid and far more direct since the recent changes... Hence Clayton rather than Billy.
