The Luckiest Win I Can Remember

He made 2 saves, (3 if you count the one that went in) and immediately put us back under pressure with his kicking.

A lot of his kicks were rushed because the ball was played back to him numerous times from Edgar and Collins after they'd passed it between themselves and invited pressure meaning Long had to play it quickly.

He kept us in the game, the save in the second half where he tipped it over the bar after Collins had again fucked around with it was top class.

Your thread . I mentioned Montgomeryesque not first touch as step overs don't count as a touch .numb nuts do you get that in cold weather ,or when you get kicked in the ballacks
Your first post made no sense
Your second even less and youre third is like a cat walked across your keyboard

Wasn't pretty and didn't give me much hope for success with this set of players, but they gave us the one thing we've been harping for, passion. It was plain to see they wanted it today and kept going throughout the whole game.

I disagree about McEveley. He looked like a man who was desperate to be sent off today. He'd already made a similar challenge to his X-rated one earlier in the half which thankfully he got away with as he won the ball, but flying in like that is reckless and has no place in modern football. All it takes is him mistiming it slightly, which he did with the second one, and it's a red card. Maybe that was his way of showing spirit and fight but Adkins needs to stamp that out of him, discipline has been bad enough this season without reckless tackles like the two McEveley made.

Hammond was good, Basham was woeful, again! He's far too weak and doesn't impose himself enough. Hammond should be made captain, in that second half particularly he was barking the orders to the team, telling players who to close down or mark and was constantly in the refs ear.

Kept us in the game is a bit generous. He had 2 saves to make, the second one being a very good one.

There was plenty of times he wasn't under pressure and his kicks were still awful.

That makes two of us and I never said I was angry. They don't have that impact on me anymore.

No you didn't, but you don't seem particularly happy either.

I don't normally like getting into slanging matches so I will finish on this...After your 30 years of watching United surely you should recognise the importance of winning ugly, sometimes very ugly. No one is suggesting all is good, it clearly isn't but just take the positives whilst you can.

Do with that what you want, if you want to sling more abuse then fine, no skin off my nose. For now, that's me done.

Hammond old manned it today and for one I was pleased to see it , if you think he should have had three bookings on top of the unfortunate one he got ,go and watch tiddly winks . Saying that it might be a bit rough for you .
Football used to be a contact sport you know

Too right mate. Only negative is that our current hard men would be pussycats in our teams of old.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not harking back to the days or Bassett or Warnock - football has moved on - but some nastiness is still a needed ingredient in a winning side.

What a patronising load of rubbish. I've been a Blade for 30 years for the record and I don't get anything for my money because I dont give them my money anymore. The reason for that is because I got nothing for my money when I was giving it to them.

As a life long sufferer of watching them I am indeed entitled an opinion and I want a reason to reinvest in them. At the moment I don't have a single one reason. The inference that it's up to the supporters to lift their confidence levels and help them perform when they earn disgusting salaries is frankly laughable.

Take your face for a shit.
Why support us then ? shall I take mine for one now ?

Interesting you bring that up, as I got some stick on Twitter for my real time thoughts for not hanging McEveley out to dry and for criticising Lameiras for his reactions (milking it afterwards and the feigning injury after Hammond's challenge only to spring up to take the free kick) and dive minutes after.

A decent number in the area of most of the challenges on Lameiras continued to boo him and booed him off when he was subbed.

Real time, close to the challenge, it looked a committed but late one which could go either way...

On the replay, it looks a modern day red card all over and he was a lucky man not to walk.
I'd agree with that. However, having seen the tackle again many times on replay, McEveley does not make contact with his leading right foot. It was his left following through which toppled the player. I thought it had to be a red in real time but the ref and lino were nearer and actually realised this.Their player definitely wasn't hurt.

I personally think no one should be launching into a tackle from that distance away but having re-seen it I can see why someone could interpret it as a yellow.

Good description you use "modern day" red card.

No it doesn't. And I have not seen a still from a long the line that shows it either. Have you ?

I've seen a reply since watching it live and thinking it was in and the video showed it was in too.

No idea what denying this achieves really.

Hammond knows how to "manage" a referee like Doyle did. That is the only reason he didn't get 2 yellows.

He will at some point but I'm glad we've finally got someone who is going to be "offering advice" to the ref.

Just wondered why you are lying as no replay has shown it as a goal

I defend my integrity when someone tries to patronise me.

It was definately in. If it had been the other way round every single one of us would be claiming it was over.
But it wasn't a penalty. No one deliberately hand balls the ball towards their goal from a yard out.
I understand people being pleased with the sudden commitment and getting tougher, I can't understand widespread approval for tackles that could take us down to 10 men in the first half against better opposition. I presume everybody saying that's the sort of thing they want to see will be equally approving if he does it again and does get sent off.

You cant say 'definitely' either way about the goal, I'm pretty certain t'other way but cannot be 'certain'. Agree about the tackle, McEveley should have walked.

Long has more or less said it was in, listen to his interview. He was MOTM by the way in a very commited performance from the Blades, something I haven't said for a long time, get in there.

Let's be honest. We were shockingly poor once again and as I keep saying look a million miles away from being a promotion side, however it was nice to see a bit of fight and show an ugly side for a change. We are piss poor and need to move on/ replace a minimum of 4 of those that started today with decent quality if we are to be anywhere other than mid table this season. Wasn't too far away from there phantom goal and to be honest it was very difficult to see whether it was FULLY over the line. Certainly not as obvious as the beards last week. Some you win..........
