Now you know Diego likes to play in his preferred position. Stop being nasty to the lad....

Seriously, I'm not sure he has any more pace than Sparky. I've yet to see it if he has.
Think he would give an option of a tricky player. Even billy with his distinct lack of pace was turning players.

And I would've used him or someone like him instead of Wallace on the wing

Seems to me we won the game with a set piece move from the training ground. Mceverley taking a corner was noteworthy, and then Adkins confirmed it in his interview. Refreshing to see....this is the third division.

The old Bassett corner put in an appearance. I reckon Billy told Adkins about it.

When I saw McEvely running to take the corner I announced, "Ooh heck, look out folks, this one could end up anywhere."

The kid behind me said, "Why the fuck is McEvely taking this corner?"

I turned round and said, "I reckon he's pulled rank and said, 'Get out of my way, I'm the captain and I'm taking this one!"

When it paid off with Billy Sharp hitting the back of the net I just turned around and said to the kid, "Well, what the fuck do we know, eh?"

Didn't get a brilliant view from my seat, looked like it took a hefty deflection. Billy looks a different player this time around mind. Much more confident and assured.

I like the way Adkins uses subs as a positive, the players he brought off weren't having particularly bad games but he saw that fresh legs in those positions could bring success and it did with Macnulty's beauty.
Weve fucked it they have got nathan byrne:eek::eek::eek: , the new diego maradona

The massive plus for me today was that the defence looked pretty solid - certainly a lot better than last season. I think David Edgar looks a class act at this level and could well be the most important part of the jigsaw. Great signing. Once we scored I felt fairly confident (unlike last season) that we would not concede.

As a McNulty sceptic I have to give Sparky credit for an instant and decisive strike. Good goal with an assist from Billy.

Well done to JCR, Jose, Bash and the Kieran Brothers, who were excellent at full-back. Did I see David Edgar smoking a cigar and having a glass of red at one point?....
What a good signing Edgar is

They are undoubtedly a BIG improvement, but I think they only looked solid because Blackpool decided not to attack.

I'm going to reserve judgment on how solid they are till after next weekend.

The best teams are those that find a way to win even when not playing well.

We were nullified first half but still in control. Adkins knew we were never going to pass through their midfield so we went direct, notched the crucial first goal from a crafty set piece, then picked them off for the second.

After that we let them pass it from side to side in front of us (as they had done to us first half ) but rarely looked troubled.

Not a vintage performance by any means but solid and functional. We got the job done.

We'll play better teams for sure but we'll also play worse and I honestly think we are going to dish out several hidings this season.

Baxter's completion rate on forwards passes was about 10% today.

Glad someone else sees this aswell. He does one decent forward pass and fans seem to have just forgotten the previous 5 attempts where he as passed the ball straight to the opposition or out of play

I thought we were very poor first half it was like last season all over again, a little better second half and still won easily in the end. One thing is for sure we will have harder games than Blackpool, still need another Cb and a keeper too.

Are you saying instead of Howard? If so please tell me what Howard has done wrong since coming in this season? Adkins will not replace him.
A back up yes but I wouldn't say we need a new No1

Howard made 3 mistakes in the first 15 mins, letting a ball run through the six yard box then berating Wallace for not dealing with it all he needed to do was catch it. A few minutes later he dallied with a kick which was close to being charged down it ended up going low up field but could easily have gone to a Blackpool player, a few minutes later got the ball stuck between his feet and had to rush the clearance but after that he was OK to be fair and made a good save in the second half.
You might have guessed by now I don't rate Howard too much I think the guy is an accident waiting to happen a back up keeper at best confirmed by the number of clubs he has played for where he never held onto the #1 spot. We can do so much better and must if we are serious about building a team to get into and stay in the championship.

Swindon will be a real test. I think we might be better placed to judge the team after next weekend.

Could it be , that even this early in the season , we have finally reached the stage , where opposing fans , managers , players , look at the fixture list , and think to themselves , shit , we play SUFC next .

I think we have. They now worry about us , and us not worrying about them.

The old Bassett corner put in an appearance.

By an amazing coincidence we were talking about that corner in the pub before the game. Our collective first memory of it was Norwich away in t'cup. Anyone have earlier memories?

Thought the first half hard work although Baxter wasn't as poor as some on this thread suggest. Give the lad a break, he is one of the few that possess genuine creativity and he will carry on going sideways and backwards if people start moaning about misplaced forward balls.

I don't see how anyone can critiscise Howard who put on his smoking jacket to join Edgar with the cigar, glass of wine and a round of bridge.

I struggled to see a stand out MotM but thought Basham, K Wallace & Baxter were our best players.

Steady as she goes then, on the good ship HMS Bladeyblade.....

I was on the Gillingham forum the other day and noticed one of their contributors has noticed this thread and has this to say:

Well after schooling them on day one and all the hand wringing that entailed, they are now back to being arrogant XXXXXXs. Just been on their MB and there is talk of the "juggernaut" up and running. They also really think they could realistically sign Dack. I really, really hope we finish above them.

I wonder if they know the difference between arrogant and optimistic? :)

Why are Gillingham fans trawling our MB? And Liam, why are you on their's? Looking for info on Dack?
Tbh, I can't see him coming to us when I'm sure a few championship clubs would be interested so that's probably fair comment but they do seem to have a chip on their shoulder about our 'arrogance'.

Actually i had completely different reasons for being on their board - I used to play football with somebody who now plays for them, but hasn't featured this season, and wondered why.

......and keeps rumbling on !!! No doubt it will hit a few potholes along the way but hopefully not too many . Lets get ready to rumble......... UTB
