We might not have played Barcelona but we were beating teams in the first half of the season who are now making us look average or worse. We are on relegation form over the past 12 games or so, simple as that.
but we won't get relegated because of our earlier form.. it's as simple as that. we even might get some form back.. who knows??

Good job the season is 46 games long then.

Not being negative or owt but my constructive view is that Billy lost form, Coutts broke his leg, Brooks got poorly and our form has dipped because of lots of new players coming in that need to get used to each others play. Also (not knocking him) Wilders team selections and substitutions of late have been a bit iffy but overall we are doing very well in our first year back in the Championship.

that's a spot on assessment IMHO.. also think that some of us got a bit of a 'nose bleed' when we went top which is not surprising. one thing i have realised is that Billy's on the field leadership qualities have been seriously underestimated up until now

That isn’t my point. “We’d be ready for it” can quite easily be manipulated into what you’ve said. And he himself will tell us that. But it’s not enough is it? I know it’s easy for me to sit here on the toilet and tell him how he should spend his money but “think Liverpool” and “we’d be ready for it” aren’t exactly what’s been happening. Liverpool signed van Dijk for £70m. We signed a (good) Baldock from MK Dons for 1% of that. “Think Liverpool”.

Think not.
FFS McCabe never said think Liverpool.

Can some people not get that through their thick skulls? !!!

8points gained since losing Coutts. Maybe as the division has caught up with our tactics and team selection, bringing in another coach with more experience of this league to assist Wilder to halt the slump would help. Clement, Monk, Grayson spring to mind

So a nearly one year old article (been 2 transfer windows since) on a Wolves blog, presumably written by a Wolves fan, proves that Wolves are nowhere near breaking any rules.

Must be FACT then

Well, yes. It does. Did you read it?

It was written in August btw. Since then we've spent a further £2M on Rafa Mir but that's it.

No thanks.. i'm quite happy as we are.. grayson and monk got the bullet for being below 'us'.. so that is quite ridiculous

What do people expect McCabe to do? Just find £50m spare in his back pocket.
Yes wolves are miles ahead of us, but their miles ahead of everyone else in the division too.
There isn’t a gulf between us and the rest of the top 6 at all. Villa we shouldn’t have lost too, and derby we’ve played off the park twice.

Some fans are just clueless

You have to accept that hard work and passion will ultimately only get you so far. When we come up these multi million pound teams and squads we really are a country mile away. We can always compete but have to realise in certain games we will be out classed, today was one of the days. But generally over the season we have put up a good show in the vast majority of games, we are competitive with limited resources. It's also fare to say we could invest 20 million in players and still not get promoted
Exactly mate!

I’d ask this question to the posters who clearly aren’t happy with things as they are right now (8th place). Just how far did you expect us progress in our first season back in the Championship? You all knew that our budget was bottom end (Wilder told us) but did you still expect auto or the play-offs? Most posters on here were happy with mid table safety back then, some even predicted we’d just survive and they’d still be ok with that. The poll below was taken when we still thought we might get serious investment (mainly from the Prince), and yet most are still happy with comfortable survival, so what’s changed your virus now when it obviously didn’t happen?

Personally I think we’ve probsbly had it to good for too long under Wilder and now some have forgotten how for we’ve come on so little (comparative) backing. Let’s not press the self destruct button lads and lasses, times are still good and we can still finish this season on a high.

So at least 70% should be content.

Amazing how a few good results change expectations.

People really shouldn't get so carried away.

but.. we’ve basically hoovered up all the best L1 talent.. some of these lads are quite clearly good enough at this level

If we can
but.. we’ve basically hoovered up all the best L1 talent.. some of these lads are quite clearly good enough at this level

Hopefully this is the start of our model. Buy players for £500k from League One, sell them to cash rich Championship clubs for a profit. Rinse and repeat...

Just taking a different view here, but if i was Neves or jota would i really want to live in or near Wolverhampton ?
obviously they do but i guess a serious amount of dosh would have persuaded them, why else would you move to Wolverhampton ?

Because proper professionals don't really give a shit where they live if it means they can advance their careers and earn good money. They only get picky when they've made it and can choose between Brum or Barca.

Well i would care as to where i lived, especially if i had a family, i wouldn't want to subject them to live in a place that they hated living in, and wives have a big say in where a player moves to these days, I know Wolverhampton fairly well and wouldn't want to live there - unless someone offered me a lot dosh! - hopefully i would be playing so well (AKA Neves & Jota last night) that a bigger (preferably a London club) might put a bid in for me, be interesting to see if those two are with Wolves next season if their "star" continues to rise with Wolves.

Only Kevin McCabe could find a (relatively) potless Arab as a coinvestor. I suspect McCabe has had several offers to buy the club but the prospective purchases didn't meet his valuation (i.e. weren't going to give him all his filthy lucre back that he spunked on Bryan Robson et al.). Indeed wasn't he trying to look like billy big bollocks the day he fired Blackwell in front of some of his new mates? Now i'm sure there will be people on here singing his praises about how he keeps the club afloat etcetera, but for me that's the cost of running the business as a going concern that he chose to get involved with in the first place.

The real question is, if clubs like Wolves can attract investors with deep pockets, why can't Sheffield United?

It will be interesting to revisit this in 5 years time.

I have my doubts about the motivation of the Wolves investors given that they appear to be very much "agent led"

Will be interesting to see what happens to them when the going gets tough.

True, you have to question the sustainability of some of these investors, especially when the "new toy" feeling goes a bit stale. As it will be when the shit hits the fan over in S6.

They can live in London if they want, the M1, M40 etc should get them to Wolverhampton handily enough. Plus its not so bad in the surrounding countryside.

But I've always assumed it would be more of a problem for teams in the North East.

Mr McCabe has already stated his intention to move the club on, and recently made it clear his sons have no intention of carrying on as owners after him. I believe Kevin is now seventy years old, so you'd think an exit strategy is close to top of the agenda. He's never going to move the club on when there's a chance of getting promotion on a relative shoestring.Who would?

i used to be of the same feeling as the original OP - c'mon get the coin spent, why cant we do that?
But over the last 2 games i have realised, as you said 'Premier league players who cost big money are making us look amateur'. fact is we cannot compete, Villa have parachute payments, and Wolves are financially corrupt. McCabe is rich compared to you and I, but he cant pull £100mil from the back of the sofa as some on here would like him to. and thats not his fault. If a Mansour approached him and said he would buy him out and then invest, i think McCabe would sell, but please remember that for the previous 6 seasons we have been a 3rd tier club. on this forum were all football fans, who can name a couple of clubs from the 3rd tier in any of the top leagues in Europe? so how can we expect to attract the attention of an overseas investor.
Sad truth is we have entered the 2nd tier competion, and need to work our way up the ladder - in the 1st 6 months we have caught teams out, and rode the crest of a promotion wave - this has now caught up with us.
fianlly back to the money, we cant bring in a Jota, terry, or even a Snodgrass. we can gaze enviously at the likes of Wolves and Villa, but we cannot compete, accept it.
Its like been sat in a casino, betting a fiver on the roulette whilst making eyes a lady, the some rich fat bastard comes over and drops ten grand on red.
She knows hes on the decline, whilst your on the up, but money talks, and if you aint got it you cant compete. get down to the local and pick up a half a lager bird.

You're wasting your time. It suits the argument so the facts don't matter.

All that's necessary is to spend big.
It barely matters anyway. How many posters on here promised to stay with their wives for richer, for poorer til death do us part and are now divorced? People say stuff and it doesn't work out, particularly when they're speaking metaphorically rather than literally.
