The Good Old Days.

Just for good measure I'll copy the sum total of tattooed Sean's contributions to a thread about the old days, lo e holding up a mirror for him:

I remember when people went on holiday to get away from things.

That is the ultimate "End of thread "post.
I never thought I'd read post after post on a FOOTBALL forum where the OP shamelessly updates the lumpen proletariat on his endless patronising one liners reminding us all ceaselssly where he is whilst we keep the means of production going and professing not to see how utterly crass it is.
I read a few minutes ago that North Korea has just launched another missile.
Is it too much to hope ...........

This thread was created soley as a vehicle for the ego of its originator.
As ultimately they all are.

SHARK ATTACK.HELP!! Right back to posts in the 200's an obsessive stream of nonsense.

Grow up. You are a complete embarrassment and a Flounce .

Best post you ever did was when you told the world you had thousands of likes , hanging your boots up , and leaving the forum .

Good old days . Yes . Pity you started it , but let's keep it going .

As you say, "maybe not" , however it was a timely test of any lessons learned and went well for over 200 posts.

Do you really think it was just me who was "admonished"? Don't regard that as a question on here. There is still the relevant open thread on the other forum.

Over 200 posts . Well done Woodward . Numbers going up all the time . I bet you are really proud .

Can I say well done .

Very interesting and entertaining thread . Thank you for thinking of it in the first instance .

The second best post you have put on the forum you card .

Hey. I went to this game! The papers all said that Tommy Craig scored the first goal for Wednesday and he certainly ran off celebrating, but Eddie Colquhoun insisted it was he who had poked the ball into the net as he tackled Craig just when he was about to shoot.

What I remember most, though, was the fighting on the Shoreham End. As a little country cousin I had rarely seen anything like it. The game itself was a bit rough too. Wednesday included a dirty hound called Sammy Todd whose orders were obviously to kick the knees from under any United player who crossed his path.

It was deffo Colquhoun who scored for them whatever Tommy wotsit said. Eddie was always worth the opposition putting him under pressure. At the Watford home game where promotion was sealed I'm sure he was openly smoking a fag ( probably a cigar) during after match celebrations. Silent will be along to put me right or maybe not in this case, dunno ?

I was stood just about in the dividing line between the Bretheren and the Unclean on the Shoreham. The scrapping wasn't that bad otherwise I would have scarpered

Couldn't recall whether they were 3d or 6d, thanks ucan.

I always preferred to get one at the start and write it up myself, otherwise the printed bits put my writing to shame!

Eventually I graduated to a proper scorebook but you couldn't afford to miss a single ball bowled.

I seem to remember seeing an Aussie touring side at Bramall Lane but may have been dreaming. My dad always told me how he'd seen Bradman play here, one of his all time heroes just behind Hagan and Joe Shaw!

Sorry my Lord I do not take you too seriously. You've changed beyond recognition and I know there's a really nicely bloke uderneath this hard new image which doesn't suit you, doesn't quite hit the target I'm afraid.

I expect you saw so much scrapping in those days that you probably didn't notice any more. It was an eye-opener for me though, not coming from Sheffield and being used to much smaller attendances and very few away fans.

The Pigs sang "What's it like to be a twat, Alan Woodward?" No wonder there was some fist after that.
Brilliant memory mate!

:tumbleweed:Just for the record My Lord Bos. Have a look in the mirror. All your posts on this thread. You loved it then you changed your mind:

Banners and flags on the Kop

The white railings around the ground .

Matches , cigarette lighters being lit in the old stand especially at night matches .

The white small dug outs .

Massive floodlights .

Watching the match under the cricket pavilion and being able to walk around the ground and stand behind each goal.

Being a ball boy for a season covering the cricket pitch.

Mr Harris telling the players to stop swearing .

Serving Mr Harris tea at half time from a silver service .

This season and next could top everything for us all , young and old .

UTB

The best thing I loved about Hillsborough is seeing all the blue leather cushions being thrown on to the pitch from the stand at full time when they had lost and were in the shit .

Great to watch .

UTB

I was at that match . Segars and Fashau had nothing on the scale City was trying to throw that match led by Mike Doyle .

I cannot remember but City either scored or missed a penalty .

The ground was full to the rafters and being a blade , a night to remember .

Final score was 2-1 , and must have been at a time when the entrance cost was so reasonable you could go to see both Sheffield teams play without breaking the bank .

The other game much later is when me and 20 Blades mates went to watch S6 play Palace to be relegated .

Hillsborough not a patch on BDTBL.

UTB

No trolls or sharks . Behave . It's a forum .

From a S6 point of view , who was there manager , was it Harry Catterick .

Dick Wragg smoke Balkan Sabrani from a tabbaco shop in town.

Shirts , shorts , socks , track suits were all made out of thick cotton material .

Fans used to have other clubs scarves tied round there waist or arms like trophies of battles they had been in .

No subs , then I think only one sub on the bench .

Mr Harris cardigan .

Innocent times , no flash cars .

Sponsors cars .

UTB

Nice one . It would be great then that for once , for once , when you are wrong , you put your hand up and admit it .

You would gain a lot more respect and I know nothing . A bit of humble pie does also help now and again.

Setting traps is childish .

Fish bait that or am I totally out of order in your book yet again .

Not on that post . If posters don't agree , you take your bat and ball home . Your motto .do as I say not as I do .

Gold old days . cannot win .

I will leave it there . Enjoy the rest of the holiday

Grow up. You are a complete embarrassment and a Flounce .

Presty captures the good old days so well. I have 4 of his pictures in my den:

1.Badge lady.
2. Autograph Hunter.
3 . Outside Sportsman pub.
4. Programme seller.

For the years I collected autographs, late 50s, early 60s, it was an innocent pastime, and all very pally. It was part of my growing-up when the only 'incident' that I can recall happened. After a home defeat to Bristol Rovers, we were on their coach getting signatures when a loudmouth from the Kop, several years older than me, jumped on the bus carrying programme and pen, and went up to their centre-half, David Pyle, and shouted in his face 'Sign this for me, "best wishes, a Pyle of shit"'. We were all thrown off the bus. Never forgave him for costing me at least half-a-dozen autographs. From the way David Pyle rolled his eyes, I guessed it was not the first time a wit had come up with this.

Monday mornings at school after United had won the local Derby and vice-versa.

Going to Hillsborough and Bramall Lane alternate weekends with school pals.

Watching all four stands being built.

Standing up in kop corner with terrace for the 57000 crowds. We arrived at 12.30, gates opened 1pm, always got a place on the wall looking down on kop and pitch. Great view, great days.

Over my years the owners of the club I remember are:

Arnold Laver - part owner I think.
Woolhouse
Hassell
Brearley
McDonald
McCabe
The Prince plus KM

I hesitate to compare our current owners for fear of lighting the touch paper, but I will say that among there is a motley list of people with Interpol seeking two of them in the past if not to this day.

Laver always had integrity but I clearly remember the funding of the club was always a hot topic even when I was a young lad.

KM has said many times he will do the best by the club when he sells up. Fingers crossed.

I wouldn't have a clue of the time spans of the ownerships and should anyone have easy access t o the dates that would be great plus headline comments even.

Post to your own thread to keep it going . Sad.
