Every bloody year we have a disrupted pre season. There’s always an excuse.

we have Covid
Friendlies rained off
Have play offs
Have to sell before we can buy
New manager
Waiting for PL loans

there’s always some excuse. We need to stop whinging about this stuff and man up. Yes it’s only one game but that wasn’t good enough.
Only the last two I can remember

Well you have a short memory. Every time we made the playoffs there was hand wringing from the club that we had less time to prepare because we didn’t know what division we’d be in.

The manager said he was happy with the squad. Let's not go down the road of all these players somehow not being any good any more.
Agree it does seem half-baked. But it's majorly worrying that so many players lacked drive and energy on the pitch when they're playing their first game under a new manager.
Slav was doing plenty of headshaking last night

Of course he has. He hasn’t done very well if he thinks that’s his strongest side or that is a formation those players can play.
So you don't think he is a very good manager then because he picked a player you don't rate

A player who hit the post from a chance he created himself in our only real .omens of danger in the entire game

Maybe you're opinion is a bit over the top

I think it was more the desire for some pace and to be honest a distinct lack of match fit options. But one thing we can certainly agree on is that he should be as far away from Bramall Lane as physically possible

I’m no fan of Burke as a striker but let’s be fair, he came the closest to scoring for us last night.

His pace also got him in behind a couple of times, but also his pace made him fall over a couple of times too.

Jesus christ you're really scraping the barrel now mate

No, I said he did a poor job yesterday. I hope he learns from it.

Burke did hit the post. He also walked the ball out for a goal kick on more than one occasion. He’s a terrible striker.

Jeez man, go for therapy or something. It's one game and you've lost your shit.

I’m sick of seeing these excuses.

You’re right though. Nothing to be worried about. This lot will put 33 defeats in 42 games behind them just like that, I’m sure, and Burke and Robinson will lead us to promotion. Pardon me for doubting this bunch.

Got to get Basham back in and play the formation they're used to ,we haven't got the personal to play that style yet not until he brings players in to suit it . Utb

Basham won't be playing a major part unless the formation moves away from 4 at the back. the new manager obviously wants to play 4 at the back, so it will be bit part for the lane legend that is Chris Basham. A great player for us under Wilder, he doesn't fit into how JS wants us to play.

Only time you ever post is to pile on after a poor performance
Last night was wank from.pretty much all aspects ,so why the need to exagerate ?
Was it for comedy effect ? If so you be better off in pompeys threads where people like that kind of thing

You lost me at the end of the first sentence because that simply isn’t true.

The structure of the team was all wrong yesterday. Far too early to be calling the manager but he got it all wrong.Has he ever watched our players? Sheffield United had the higher quality players all over the park but they looked lost - like they were square pegs in round holes. Osborn cannot play left back. Robinson in not good enough to play in a back four. Both cannot play together, especially in a back four which places more emphasis on their heading ability. Norwood and Berge probably cannot play together, although they improved as the game went on.
Moose is lost in the wide positions. Fleck cannot play on the right side of the midfield. Didzy should be central between the lines. We set our team up to suit Burke which says it all. Do you set your team up to suit your best or worst forward players?

The play 4-4-2/4-3-3 merchants should've learnt a valuable lesson last night. If SJ want to go this way smash the lot up and rebuild. We'll need half a dozen out and half a dozen in to do this. If not play to our strengths.

Bashams a better player than Robinson. Even playing out of position at LCB he'll win more headers and tackles than Robinson. It was a poor decision by the manager. Personally think we'll be fine this season if we sign a dominant CB, a left back who's initial thought isn't to check back inside and a pacey attack minded midfielder. Certainly need to up the tempo though, played like a testimonial for long periods last night.

Any professional team at this level shouldn't be playing any player out of position unless it's an emergency during a game or a severe injury crisis leading up to a game.

SJ wants fast moving players and the ball - it's how he is and adapting Basham short term wouldn't IMHO be the managers view.

Don't think Bash fits into the new managers plans, but he is at least wise enough not to ditch Bash just yet. Sadly I can see Bash moving on or bench warming.

absolutely 100%.

Robinson is simply not a centre half. Egan struggles in a 2 and his strength is reading the game between 2 others in a 3.

We have a 3 at the back squad not a 4 at the back squad.

So yes, if this is how SJ wants to play the game then major change is needed.

Not quite sure what happened to the "Any new manager that comes in will maintain the 3 at the back culture of Sheffield United". Perhaps this was myth or the fact it took that long to get SJ, that it was him insisting - "we do it MY way, or no way"

IMHO - change the players to suit the new system or suffer a season of mediocrity - and we all know where that could lead.

Yeah hence me saying we need to sign a dominant CB and have done since JOCs injury. Regarding Bash I meant he's a better bet as a stop gap than Robinson.

We might even need 2 - A average Brum team put enough balls in our box that caused sufficient problems for us to be very concerned. Bash/Egan/JOC all covered for each persons inadequacies and worked as a unit. To play a 4 2 strong, uncompromising centre backs are needed if the full backs are going to push up.

It's all very concerning to me as to how this is panning out.

Being aerially dominated has been our achilles heel for some time. Ampadu, Robinson, Stevens and even Egan of late have all been regularly beaten in the air.

Agreed - and the key was the injury to JOC.

Bash/Egan/JOC had built up that knowledge together - we now need to start again...........sadly

These players finished 9th in the PL

We have internationals now in our side!
Sorry pal, this is a dumb argument. On this basis league positions would stay the same year on year .
The reality is the stars aligned and we finished way over the average competence of the players ( mid Championship) and Manager (First Division).

That's the spirit.

That comment could come back to haunt you.
Spectre of Robson in that performance.
Not a Blades TEAM. Looked disjointed. Amy Turtles overcrowded middle of pitch and edged us slowly back.
Showed a few times that pace, width or driving at them as Berge did counters that. Poor quality final ball also let us down.
Nowt great them, but put bodies in the way to get the points.
Thought there was a push in the back leading to the goal. Ozzy no chance winning that header. Rammers positioning may have been poor.
Shit fecking night altogether.

It shows that with the right motivation / manager / injury list the top this team can achieve is 9th in the PL.

Last season we lost key players to injuries and returning to their parent clubs.

This side should walk this league no question about it.

Not been around for a while but definitely in the ether tonight.
Expensive players passing around aimlessly for 90 minutes, no drive, no idea past the halfway line.
Fleck looked lost and like he's now run his race for us and we have a large number of ineffectual strikers, one of whom will cost us £30m over the course of his contract with no likelihood of any meaningful return.
Maybe all the cliches about being undercooked and taking time for a new system to bed in will prove correct.
But for a first performance under a new manager, presumably with players wanting to impress, that was desperate.
A few weeks like that and if Wilder's still not got a job....
You're kidding I hope - Wilder shaped that squad
