Thank you Sander

All clubs do sell players, but seem to have a replacement, we sell all our best players and don't replace, that's why we ended up in the fourth division, and we will again.

Yes, Brian Deane came from Doncaster Rovers, but we was in the third division, and Doncaster in the fourth division, we are supposed to have money from the premium league, but we still want to sell our best players.

Dortmund sold Harrland for a very large fee, and replaced him straight away, we don't do that, the money goes elsewhere

Proper little ray of sunshine aren't you 🤔

You don't get relegated with quality players and I am speaking facts over 50 years of watching the blades, even when I lived in Basingstoke, travelling up and down the country, putting money into the blades revival fund for players.

The investment didn't last long, just one season, and now they want to recoup the money.
So how would you balance the books? Or is it just refuse to sell until we can’t get anything for them and then moan at the owner to put more money in?

This isn’t true. What happened when brooks went? Wilder brought in Egan etc! We ended up Premier League

Exactly.

TBF barring our PL recruitment we've sold and reinvested pretty well over the last few years. Yet another difference to the McCabe years.

In the L1 promotion season we sold DCL, Rammers and Adams allowing us to bring in the likes of Duffy, JOC, Clarke etc that led us to promotion.

In the 2nd Champ season we sold Brooks allowing us to bring in the likes of Egan, Norwood etc.

TC was sold after we got relegation!! Woody wasnt even 30 yet also it wasnt near the end of his career. He left us for USA mainly for personal reasons, still played pro football until 1981
Alan Woodward was born in 1946, we sold Curry in 1976, so the writing was on the wall, listen to what Curry said about selling Geoff Salmons.
Woodward played soccer in the USA, which was a very low standard

We have premium league money for two seasons and have the money to mount a promotion challenge, we have a good crop of talent coming through the academy, these need to be integrated into the squad, since the first team players are getting older.

We had record attendance, last season, if we start selling our assets, the crowds will fall.

If someone wants to double my wages, then thanks very much, it’s been great, but I’m off. And so would everyone else.

He’s an employee. Whether it’s for us or someone else, it’s a business relationship between the player and the clubs that want him on their books. Only in very rare cases is loyalty/history/sentiment worth anything. Billy Sharp?

And from United’s perspective: Make your money back or even a profit to improve 3 or 4 other positions? Again, it’s a business decision made with the knowledge you have at the time and your best guess as to what the future might hold. Sometimes you say stick. Sometimes you say twist. You’ll never know if it was the right decision.

I am a real Berge enthusiast. I think he’s a great player and a real asset to the team (and the handsomest man alive),who’s had terrible luck (COVID and injuries) but if, I don’t know, RB Leipzig want to double his wages and have him play in the top 4 of the Bundesliga, how can he be criticised? Top 4 of the German league or Wigan away? I know what I’d choose.
Everybody wants to double their wages, but professional sport is different they sign a 3 to 4 year contract, on a multimillion pound contract, with many clauses, like when we got relegated, a reduced income, players should honour the contract they signed.

The parachute money is covering our losses. The wage bill is significantly too high for our income and we were making losses year on year before we went up, so do you think it’s higher or lower now?
The kids are nowhere near ready, so there’s a 2-3 season gap before the best of them are ready so we need to build out the squad.
So, I’ll ask it again, if we’re not selling anyone, how are you going to support the wage bill you want to keep and have funds for loans and transfers?

OK, the world won't stop turning if(when) Berge is sold, but, MG-W and Berge have been the engine room and heartbeat of our team this season. With both gone, who picks up where they left off!?. I can't think of anyone at the club that could even be half decent replacements for them.
The loss! of MG-W has already left a huge void in the team, if Sander goes that void becomes 'cavernous'! and we're never going to fill that void by spending a fifth or quarter of what Berge cost. I am at a loss to think of a player that I would bring in to try to fill their roles!, and can't think of a midfielder I have seen this season that I would bring in to the club, as most have been 'much of a muchness'!!
I not only fear for the team but also genuinely fear for Ndiaye without these 2 around!, how this may affect his performance and development!. A relegation struggle may not be as far from reality as we want/like to think.
The Ins/Outs over the next 4 weeks will define next season for our aging squad!!!

Looks like we could have seen the last of Berge now Norway's manager has stuck his nose in, saying he shouldn't be playing Championship football, when pressed on the matter Berge tried to brush it off, but apparently said he is due to sit down with United and his agent to discuss a way forward.
Only putting 2 & 2 together but looks like he could be asking for a transfer, why else would he and his agent be talking to United he's not out of contract anytime soon.
If I am correct losing him and MGW is going to leave one big hole, with none of the names we have apparently been linked with coming anywhere near to filling it.

You might well be correct....but bear in mind that this will be the same agent who insisted on a £35m release clause. It's most likely that Sander doesn't want to play in the championship and his agent will be enquiring about the minimum figure that United will accept. Armed with that information it will be up to him to ask around other clubs to see if anybody is interested. If not, then he stays.

Yes, Woody was born in Sept 1946 so he wasnt even 30 when we got relegated!! Who is Curry!

Should have scored vs Sweden yesterday, one on one with Robin Olsson, goallie made a big save, did well as DM, not the easiest to pass. He's looking better game by game. Had a long chat with Olsson at the final whistle

Been told he’s going. No transfer request, but the club want to cash in and the player wants out for the main reason that he doesn’t want to be playing Champ football.

Last summer the club ideally wanted to sell Ramsdale and Berge but for the right fees.
They got a fee they wanted for Ramsdale but didn't for Berge.

Now Bettis has come out saying we do not need to sell, but this could be a front. Hopefully not though.

If they get the figure in mind to make them sell Berge they will do. At a guess that figure is likely to be around the price we paid for him.

At this point will they allow a portion of that fee back into the kitty for fee's and wages?
Ideally they do release a good chunk. I mean if we were to receive £22m should they put back £8-10m that can make quite a difference to a Championship budget.

Berge will go. Makes sense for both the player (who is better than Championship and would improve half the teams in the Prem), and club who still need to pay a number of his transfer fee installments and get a big earner off the books.

In fact we won a night match at Elland Road towards the end of the season (thank you Woody) and the Leeds fans were chanting "you can shove your Tony Currie up your arse".

Soon changed their bleeding tune 😢

I've supported the blades since 1964, and all I have ever seen, we always sell our best players and it does result in relegation eventually, we don't reinvest the money on quality players only 2nd rate. I've noticed a story today that the money will be reinvested with the sale of players, it won't be reinvested in players.

Yes, we get a few promotions, cup runs, but we have not won a major trophy since 1925

This city of ours should have two clubs in the top leagues, winning trophies, the support is fantastic for the way the directors treat the fans.

Listen to Dave Bassett, it tells you all need need to know about the blades, no ambition, selling players behind the managers back.

One minute they say they don't have to sell players, then the next minute, they will reinvest player sales into new players. There a joke club, taking the fans for a ride.

They should be keeping the best players that are under contract, after all we have a better chance of promotion with our quality players. It's madness selling Berge as was selling, Mick Jones, Alan Birchenall, Tony Currie, Geoff Salmons, Brian Deane, and many more I could name. You build teams around quality players, not 2nd rate players

Absolutely no idea how people can call the board spineless, if they were then there would have been a firesale last year. Sander had options last season however the club decided to keep him & hold out for their asking price.

Sander wants to leave that's obvious, he's playing international football with premier league players that will be in his ear & he's played champion league football so will want to return to that eventually. Why would he want to play championship football again? Its stalling his career.

Providing the money is re-invested then we have to wish him well, your argument is all historic not current. There hasn't been one player that we have sold on the cheap under the current regime (Prince on his own). Last season we invested a lot of money in an attempt to re-gain promotion immediately - MGW, Davies, Olsen, Hourhaine were all on big money & we missed out on two wingers on top of that.

They can sell him but they need 5-6 permanents ready to come in before the ink has dried. Under 25, high scope for future resale value. I hope the kid at Blackpool is one of them. It's imperative with the age profile of the squad over the next 12- 18 months, and the expiring contracts and players at the end of their deals, that they do that. Do I have the confidence that they'll do that. No.
