You look at the physicality of the Newcastle team and then compare it to ours , then , to top it all off we bring on an overweight Shaggy impersonator with rolled down socks .
As someone else has said - doesn't matter who you choose we're just not good enough , strong enough , have no style , method , rhyme , or reason - the starting point for almost every game will be damage limitation .
Its horrendous
And if he isn't then it has to be Bash, definitely not BogleIf Baldock is fit. He comes in 100%
Anybody know where we are with Brewster.? How much are we paying him to sit on his ass at the side.? When did he last play?
Can we get some insurance money for him. ?
He's another Eddie Kilshaw.
Sooner than we think?! He's been out for two days shy of 11 months with a hamstring injury. That's longer out than most players have with an ACL these days. Something is clearly fundamentally wrong with him.I think he could be back sooner than we think. I am guessing that is why we never pushed hard to get another striker in.
Yes, he got badly injured, just like RND.Sooner than we think?! He's been out for two days shy of 11 months with a hamstring injury. That's longer out than most players have with an ACL these days. Something is clearly fundamentally wrong with him.
He went on preseason, and was even "on the grass" I personally think he's had a set back but still expect him back soon listening to Heckys comments.I think he could be back sooner than we think. I am guessing that is why we never pushed hard to get another striker in.
Yep, Brewster was on the grass end of July in Portugal. Its now 2 months on.He went on preseason, and was even "on the grass" I personally think he's had a set back but still expect him back soon listening to Heckys comments.
they said late October for RND I believe
Berge got about as bad a hamstring injury as it's possible to get (tendon avulsion) but was back playing first team football 6 months later. The only theory I have which holds up is that he's had relapses and we've discovered a serious underlying problem. I hope for his sake we can get him back playing.Yes, he got badly injured, just like RND.
They’re possibly the worst team we could play after Sunday as they have very similar traits to NewcastleAt least they’re not really good at set pieces…(cough)…James Ward-Prowse.
You're absolutely right.
BUT
Other teams do![]()
As in they have 11 players and some subs and they are much better than usThey’re possibly the worst team we could play after Sunday as they have very similar traits to Newcastle![]()
Well yes if we’re being blindingly obvious, but very similar set ups & threats was my point. As in they have 11 players and some subs and they are much better than us
Davies looked about 2 stone overweight. I doubt he’d last 30 mins if we were trying to compete and win a game. Ambled about whilst goals were going in around himOld school 5-4-1 to try and deal with the set piece/crossing issues
----------------Wes-------------------
Baldock Egan Anel Trusty Robbo
--------------Souza------------------
-------Hamer----- Davies* -----------
--------------McAtee --------------
-------------McBurnie----------------
Defence first, build from a strong base. Don't care if Robbo doesn't get forward, allow Baldock to do it down the right and JLT can tuck in to keep a back 4 if Baldock does get up the pitch.
*Slimane if Davies isn't fit.
Excellent analysisUntil we address the problem of conceding from crosses/set pieces no matter what formation we put out and how well we are playing we will ship goals. 75% conceded so far and little in the way of formation change to combat it. Whether we like it or not we have to go back to defending from the back and bring in players with a physical presence who can head the ball rather than wrestle opposition players.
We have to be better in the air at the back so for that reason Egan gets a reprieve from me but he has to seriously consider whether he wants to burn himself out playing for ROI for 90 minutes every match as opposed to putting the interests of SUFC first. Height strength and physicality should be the requirements for getting a place in the next few weeks. Everything every team has had who we've played so far.
Egan can't play in the central role anymore he's too slow. For that reason I'd move him to RCB with Anel, his best position, in the middle. Trusty has to come in at LCB. We have to see if he is up to the task and he provides much needed aerial ability. The wing backs are going to have to concentrate on defending. Bogle is woeful at this as yesterday showed but the only other option is Bash with our best defender Baldock seemingly out for another 2 weeks going on what PH said. The time to try JLT at LWB/LB is now. He's a competitor and his long throws can be a bonus. It may not work but we won't know until we try it.
In the middle Slimane needs to start because of his physicality and potential to nick a goal. We need to stop Hamer being given a roaming role as he looks lost. Play him on the left with Souza in the middle and Slimane wide right. Slimane is capable of playing on the left but I seem to remember Hamer played on the left cutting in from the right for SISU FC. last season. I realise I'm advocating a flat 3 but needs must at the moment. Alternatively go with a 4 in midfield with McAtee wide left and one up front Mcb being the player. Hard on Archer but we have to get something from the next 2 games.
What is certain after yesterdays second half is we don't have the players for four at the back. They looked lost when the formation was changed.
My physical presence team capable of winning headers at the back in a 5-4-1/3-5-1-1 formation and stopping leaking goals is as follows;
Wes
Bogle/Bash Egan Anel Trusty JLT
Slimane Souza Hamer McAtee
Mcb
You drop Thomas and put Bogle on the left play Trusty whose a LCB at RCB jeezI'd go with
Wes
Baldock - Trusty - Anel - Robinson - Bogle
Souza - McAtee - Hamer
McBurnie - Archer
Egan needs a break and Davis needs to get to full fitness before getting a start. Let's see how Trusty performs

It's amazing how someone in their mid 20s who has made a living from running about can be so out of shape. And after a months physical training with us, still be out of shape. Something not quite right here. Same goes for Laroucci.Davies looked about 2 stone overweight. I doubt he’d last 30 mins if we were trying to compete and win a game. We manage to target Souza, Slimane, Davies and Larouchi as players who didn't really do a pre-season McAtee similar too but not quite. And he has still managed 70mins..It's amazing how someone in their mid 20s who has made a living from running about can be so out of shape. Managers like Wilder, taking a wild punt is how they keep getting contracts, add Rodwell, Hussey, james wilson(def) , lee Evans, £5m Freeman etcHi Stegosaurus here,
Grifters who have given up and know, no matter how wank or out of shape or useless they may be, there'll always be some lemon with cash on the hip willing to give them a chance. So they just don't care. Why put the effort in, when they're going to be milking a massive paycheck anyway,.
Just look at Revel Morrison. He didn't have a SINGLE good season up until he joined Derby in 2021, yet teams insisted on giving him a contract.
Or Lys Mousset. The least professional footballer ever, yet teams are STILL giving him a chance because he had a dozen good games for us before he discovered the local kebab shop.
