Ex Forest and Leeds player, and now match analyst for BBC Radio Nottingham Steve Hodge predicts Sheffield United will drop away and goes on to name about half the league as top six contenders.

“It’s too close to call the final top six but Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Norwich, Derby, Stoke, West Bro and Middlesbrough will be fighting it out to the death with Sheffield United the ones to fade.

“I think Sheffield United will falter, I don’t think they’ve got the fire-power or the depth of squad to really push when it comes to March, April when you’ve got to win three or four games on the spin.

“I see a Championship game every weekend so I know a lot about the League. It’s great to watch, I love it, love the league”

So there you have it, hope this gets pinned on the dressing room wall.

Our man uses it quite a bit recently, it’s just noise and nonsense people, noise and nonsense. :)

Happy new year.

All speculation- let’s file this away until May and look again to see whether it was worth getting cross about, not that it will have made the slightest difference to how all those teams finish.

He might be right. That’s what happened last year and we’ve had some dips this year.

However, do the likes of Norwich and Leeds also have the depth of squad like Villa, West Brom, Derby, Forest, Stoke, Swansea, Boro?

There are 15 points between Forest in 10th to Leeds at the top. Stoke and Swansea sit just below this.

I’m not suggesting that a team in 10th-13th can win the league or get into the top two, but there will be a lot of points gained by sides like these with bigger squads.

I agree that our squad depth is not as strong as those other teams, but we’ve got an advantage that we play a winning brand of football.

Those teams with their big, fancy squads haven’t been consistent enough so far. We’ve underperformed if anything, results wise. Dropping points when we’ve played well.

It’s easy to write us off as the weakest side in that top 10 on paper. Just like we were going to struggle when we came up, we’ve proved so many wrong.

Getting us mixed up with Nottingham Forest, Patricia Hodge is a better pundit

Who is Steve Hodge and why does his opinion matter?

Best known for being as likely to tackle Maradona as I am a plate of Quorn. The second part, it doesn't. Just another football talking head.

If we went up (And I don't think we are ready yet) .After a run like Fulham have had wilder would be sacked then we are back to square 1 .I am loving this league as we tend to have more good days over bad and after 40 years seeing my blades its a dam great feeling

Fucking thank you. I've got 200 down the lock up, never going to shift the bastards now...………….
Easy. Just give everyone entering the ...err showroom a pair of them Nuke resistant Roy Bin sunglasses you've got.

I would but I've got a couple of quality control issues with them, and you know me, I've got a reputation to keep.

Another 3 goals so far this afternoon Steve, is that enough for you or would you like some more?

He played 24 times for England, including 5 appearances in the 1986 World Cup finals.

The summer after he started pre season at Stocksbridge playing with Leeds B team and the kids..

Was overweight, and over opinionated it seems now..

I think he has maradonnas shirt from the hand of god game as well.
