We keep saying we won't question Wilder.
That he's done enough to make decisions, take risks and make his own calls with the full backing of the board and the fans... but are we all on board from the off?
When we signed an aging Jake Wright who'd recently "left Oxford by mutual consent on 9 July 2016" were we as fans convinced? Nope.
A season later he's the "unbeatable man".
After the promotion CW decides to bring in Stearmam. He wasn't under Lundstram type pressure straight away but the need for a more experienced (at this level)player so evident - taking the place of a fan favourite was never going to be easy.
His first few performances were rocky to say the least? Did we give him time and the benefit of the doubt? Not really.
Fast forward to our current form and the man is our rock. Our leader.
My dad swears blind he's over confident on the ball and that "one of those flicks are going to cost us very soon" but for the time being, what a shrewd bit of business by the gaffer.

Anyway, for the reason I started this thread. You simply don't get any better than this....

I don't vote, but is the general consensus that it's kids voting on their phones?
Hence the goalscorer often getting the MOTM? Or am I being ignorant?

Rewind a few weeks and there people on here saying Jake Wright should be playing instead of him...

I'll say it again, we're a RCB away from having the best defensive unit in the Championship.

Add in a midfield 3 of Coutts, Evans & Fleck - and I predict next season we'll be much more 'organised' and 'compact' away from home.

You have to accept with a ball playing defender that he will make the odd mistake which costs us. But with Stearman when the inevitable mistake happens I hope people don’t get on his back, because the way he plays offers us so much. That ball to Clarke down the channel after playing his way out of pressure on Tuesday was absolutely sublime.

He’s probably the most comfortable defender in possession I’ve seen play for us. He’s not as good dribbling and joining the midfield/attack like Maguire could do and O’Connell can.

Wilder deserves so much credit for building this team. We have a back 3 and goalkeeper in Blackman who are all comfortable in possession and are so much more than your meat and drink defenders who head it and hoof it.

I for one like most gave him a chance at the start and he didn’t really perform. He’s come back into the team and been excellent.

I think he seems an honest bloke and his performances wasn’t up to what he can do. Now he is performing at a good level and that’s all credit to hit.

The tackle was excellent but I loved the header in the first half. Bouncing everywhere and it’s essy to shout get it away. But Stearman face first gets it away and takes one for the team.

It was a private conversation so wont say who but I was hugely disappointed when he said it ,no matter which of his team mates he said it about ,I reckon he sees him as a threat.
Oh shit. That's a bit demoralising.
Hopefully it was just said in a "I should be playing instead" type way.

Which player goes around telling fans that one of his team mates is shite whilst at the same time thinking nothing would be said about it?

What a plonker!

What I find even more surprising about Sitwell’s revelation is that Stearman seems to me from the outside to be a really nice bloke. He seems very encouraging of his team mates, he’s always the first to applaud Moore or Blackman if they make a save. I’ve even seen him check if opposition players are okay after winning challenges against them.

If ‘he sees him as a threat’ then it must have been either Basham, O’Connell, Jake Wright or Heneghan. Unless it wasn’t necessarily a threat to his position but more to his role within the team.

I thought that which makes it worse tbh - you'd hope the defensive unit at least had enough respect for one another to not publicly have a go at a team mate.

Was it said in a jokey way or was said player pissed Sitters?

Stearman is a good footballer, has played at a much higher level than any other defender we have and seems a nice bloke. Disappointing we have another professional who'd say that.

He’s an absolutely top bloke. Can’t speak highly enough of him as a guy

To be fair it was a few months ago ,he'd had a few ,and it went on the lines of 'cant believe we've bought him hes shit' . My own opinion was he sees him as a threat ,or it could possibly be personal ,or he doesn't look as good in training. I was disappointed in the comment and walked away ,it was said to about 5 of us ,a couple of who are good friends of his ,so it may even have been just being a bit of a nob .I do like the player but he can be a bell end sometimes.

Pleased to hear that Danny. He comes across that way as well. It may just be me but I take pride in our players being really nice people as well as good players.

We have a bellend in our ranks and I don’t know who it is, I’d rather know who it is so I don’t go praising this nob head anymore. :)

He's a top Championship defender. Pure and simple. He was at Wolves.
