ST Renewals

I've just renewed my season ticket. Not something I feel good about. In fact, I may compose a letter explaining why before we get relegated.

Anyhow... I'm going away shortly and had to take the plunge before the deadline. I abso-chuffing-lutely wouldn't have paid an increased post-deadline price, and I wouldn't stomach the match-day prices.

A true Blade or a golden tit*?

What are people's though about where the gates might end up next year? 14-15k? Been a long time since we were down at that level, but the pigs are tending towards that right now, can't see us being much different, especially with the early deadline.

Depends how they do.
Season tickets might be under 10,000 and if we're struggling I'd be surprised if we get as high as 15k.
McCabe's reaped what he's sown, his legacy is to leave the club on life support a league lower than he found it.

Wednesday got less than 15,000 against Brentford last week, and I suspect we will be at a similar level if we aren't challenging for promotion. Season ticket sales will inevitably be down, and if matchday prices are going up, I can't see many paying on the day.

I've not renewed yet but will be. We could even win some silverware next season what with the JPT!

I don't post much these days but at last a sensible thread with differing points of view.

Top marks to Ghandi, Swiss, Muttsnutts and all the other renewers who we will be joining on saturday.

Top marks too to Brownie for a great post putting football into a proper perspective.

Buying a ticket is a personal choice and sometimes there are hard choices to make. Most of us that are old enough have been there at one time or another. I would never knock any one for not buying a ticket.

I'm well past my 40's and have seen everything since 1971 and as Ghandi said I will also be around longer than Mr McCabe or Micky Adams and every August still brings a new optimism and a good craic with my mates.

Amen to that, although...

As serial renewer, I've always given McCabe's regime the benefit of the doubt until this season. I'm happy to shell out my £409 quid so long as I know what strategy I'm paying to support. This season, it seems nobody at the club has known what the strategy is.

I'm happy to watch our young'uns get a chance. I'm happy if we buy a few lower league hopefuls if that's all we can afford. But I'm not happy if our team is a continuation of the failed short-termism of loanees plus the odd high-profile signing.

I hate the thought of being a consumer rather than a supporter. But when I'm paying that much money to watch a rudderless ship, that's exactly how I feel. And it ain't right.

Bang on brownie, For years I put The Blades above everything else in my life, before I woke up and saw what was REALLY important.

bang on you two, totally agree with you ! i have the money put by for myself and sothall jnr and i intend to renew shortly, but then some days i see the likes of nos and collins and i think why the fuck should i pay these wankers wages, and then again maybe with a slice of luck they will fuck off at the end of the season and take most of the team with them

Im simply not happy being anywhere else when Sheffield United play at Bramall Lane , its where I belong.

Got mine last week for the South Stand, true Blade like ;)

Personally, the worse they are on the pitch the more likely I am to get a season ticket. I always think of it as earning a few grumble stripes for the future.

JD, you really hit the nail on the head for me - that issue of consumer v fan.
I've always considered myself a fan and always will be a fan but I feel as if the way the club has treated the fans has actually forced me to consider myself the way they do - just part of a consumer bank they dip into.
That being the case, they're going to have to actually earn my money as a consumer.
The season ticket campaign has been a complete disaster, ill-thought out and insulting. Then they apparently say - though I only know through a relayed conversation on here a fan had with Batho - they're going to charge fans more to watch even poorer quality football next season.
For me, they're more or less encouraging us as consumers to stick two fingers up to them.

So Len ..I ask you again are you going to renew?

Anyone know how many renewals we've had so far?

Also, is it possible to renew before the dealine and move seats?

3 more renewals in our house, and my 6 year old daughter just announced she wants to come with us, so maybe 4.....:)

A few of the mates are wavering this season. I've talked one into it so far. The consumer V supporter line was the one I used. Our club needs us. I'm a supporter. I was when we were relegated every time in the last 30+ years. And when the "good times" ( :) ) returned I was proud of it.

If you can, get your season ticket bought.

299 for 23 games of which ill go to most is just 15 hours o/t for me so I'm in. It's something I've always done and more likely always will, and some bang on away days in 3rd tier.

If not why not.

Renewed here and got an extra one for the baby, so 3 now for the bargain price of 586 pounds. Just hope my wife doesn't read this, she might not understand the use of bargain. We are ready for the third division now. P

I will renew in the next few days, as will my neighbour and his son.

We have had some good seasons over the last few years, admittedly with very little success. For me, now is not the time to dessert the club. Now is the time to help the club.

I will do my bit. I just hope many others who can................will.

I've renewed none of this consumer fan stuff, I've renewed because I want to support my team, this season is done with in my mind, I just want to support the team, whichever divison, don't really care about the other shit, its pants whats happened, it's pants what the board has or maybe doing but I'm still going to support that red and white top, because despite all the shit and apathy of this season, I'm still in love with the team and the badge.

I wont be renewing im afraid.
Not due to our side being crap/Mccabe etc.

Just more important things im saving up for next year. :(

I will renew as always

You can move seats but only after the deadline for renewing seats but not the deadline for the discount. I think so anyway so it'll be June I think before you can move

Agree. It's scandalous what McCabe has done. And I don't like how Adams has made the team even slower & poorer than it already was when he took over. But it's my club & always will be. I've renewed and always will as long as I can afford it and enjoy good health. It baffles me when people say "I won't renew until x happens".

I'm full of admiration for people who can say it is my club and always will be but is that really the case now? Has it ever been the case? Probably yes but MacDonald decimated a decent side and awful slumps have occured before now at BDTBL.

For me a renewal is an acceptance of McCabe, Birch and disgraceful standard of football we watch. I know there isn't anything we can do about it and not renewing is, like Pinchy says, giving up the battle but that's how I see it - a battle between the fans and the club. Should never be like that but there is a serious lack of connection between us and them.

There's far more to a Saturday afternoon out than the 90 minutes at BDTBL so I'll no doubt be renewing but effectively giving £409 to McCabe to (in my eyes) pay Birch and Monty, Collins and Doyle will be very painful.

Selective copying and pasting - the lowest of the low.

It was still there mic and they were the important points were they not?

Its not like I disagree with everything you say. Some of your points about the club are very valid but when you obviously love the club and clearly intend to renew why do you keep ranting on about it. As raul said recently "you're either in, or you're out."

Of course it's our club. We'll be around when the paper owners all shuffle off.

I'll renew and I'll make my complaints to the club in my own way.
