The clock strikes thirteen
Interesting that Saturday's programme ran with the 1990 theme, whilst clearly there is the Wilder link, this weekend brought back memories of May 1990, that I never thought possible. Back then, I was 17 and caught up in the sheer emotion of that day at Leicester and the incredible journey back home to North Yorkshire. For the last 29 years, nothing has topped that, until this weekend.
Sure there have been near misses, 3-1 at Wednesday, cup runs 2002-3, Hull at Wembley, League One 100 points, but this is different. Why? True, there were three generations together in the South Stand; me, dad (as at Leicester) and the kids, so that was special. But when I woke up yesterday I actually felt like a kid again myself, we were up and we'd done it.
It was discussed on these pages last week how 1990 eclipses 2006 under Warnock, well 2019 certainly matches it at the very least. I can remember every game from the Bassett promotion season, same with this and the best thing is my kids will too. These moments happen rarely for proper football fans, for some never, so we are so lucky, what a weekend that was.
