Since the second tier promotion play off finals started in their current format in 1990, they have mostly been very tight affairs.

Of the 35 finals, 22 of them have been won by a one-goal margin (with four of these one-goal wins coming after extra time).

Four of the 35 finals have been won on penalties.

There have been six wins by a two-goal margin and the biggest winning margin has been three goals, which has happened on only three occasions (our defeat to Wolves being one of them - YAY!).

I think what all this tells us is... we'll either win or lose by more thn three goals next weekend! 😆

No team has won a semi final 6-0 on aggregate either until Dem Blades!

Let’s hope for a year of firsts.

I do like the ability of the team to get a result. We’ve now won 30 matches this season in the EFL, 8 more than Sunderland.

What’s more Sunderland did actually register a 90 minute defeat the other day, let’s not forget. That’s now 6 defeats in their last 7. A late extra time header doesn’t his the fact that they’re in dreadful form.

Knocking 6 without reply meanwhile can’t have done us much harm against a team that was above Sunderland’s opponents until the final match of the regular season.

Although agreed regarding stats, this is different, Sunderland, like us have been guaranteed a spot in the play offs for a while. Coventry (no disrespect to Bristol City) are considerably better than them and any team reaching that 6th spot were going to have a tough outcome over 2 matches against us. We rode our luck at times during the fixture too, if that shot in the first half of the first match hadn't of hit the bar but went in, it could have been a different story. It's all focus on a nervy one off game, we have to go out there and press Sunderland into making errors, it won't be easy.

Coventry finished above Bristol City by 1 point and Bristol lost 5 fewer matches. I’m not sure you can say they are considerably better.

On the same scale, we accrued 16 more points than Sunderland so if 1 point makes Coventry considerably better than Bristol how much better does our 16 points stack up?

It won’t be easy, that I do agree. But they have more to be concerned about than we do. Our ability to obtain results has seen us win 36% more matches than them in the EFL, have a net goal difference that is double theirs, scored more, conceded less and kept more clean sheets (1/2 vs 3/8).

Heart and past bad experiences says Al sorts but the sheer volume of stats says 2-0 or 2-1 Blades.

An interesting fact is that in all 5 play off finals we have been in, we have been the higher place team.

I can see where you are coming from we are the favourites going into the tie but it's who can handle the pressure. An early goal for either side is crucial in who wins
