Hello all, advice please.

Been sitting on family stand for a few seasons now with the boy, got really decent seats right on halfway line about halfway up the stand (basically opposite the posh seats on South Stand). Only problem is not much atmosphere so the boy who is now a teenager wants to move. I prefer to watch the match from the side so the kop is out, question is, is the atmosphere much better on South Stand as looking at the seats available on the ticketing site we will be right off to one side (either Bramall Lane end or kop end). I don't want to give our great seats up for nowt.

When on the South Stand I’ve tended to go on the Kop side of it, and the atmosphere from my experience is near to non-existent. But I’ve been told that the BL end isn’t the case (I’ll be checking that out this weekend).

Isn’t it about time someone popped up with the bright idea to pump artificial “atmosphere” through the loudspeaker system ?

Had a similar issue many years ago. Went on the kop. No regrets. Yes, it's primitive, yes, it's sweary, but it's fine. I like watching from the side too, I'm short so rarely see a goal at the kop end, but in a world of sanitisation, it's a good place to experience football!

I sit in front of you (near the gangway), Linz sits bang opposite. From times I’ve sat over there with her or in the directors box/corporate, I’d say it’s very similar.

Used to be better when we sat on H block, but that’s very different these days.

If he’s a teenager the other option is just to let him sit on the kop and you move to the SS. When we were kids, about that age, my mate’s dad would stand at the front with the other flat cappers (all the blokes seemed to wear flat caps in the early eighties) whilst we stood at the back. Then he’d give us a lift home after the match.

So he sort of gave us freedom but still ‘kept an eye on us’.

That's not a bad idea at all, may even keep the seats I've got now and rotate the kids one between the girl child and my nephews

I sit at the BL side and despite H Block trying to get some songs going, you hear the away fans more. If you want side AND atmosphere, you'd be better off on Gangway A.

I'd say there wouldn't be enough of a difference to go through the hassle of changing seats. Atmosphere is roughly the same in all stands nowadays.

Similar here. Right next to the side of the stand at the Kop end and the atmosphere is mostly attrocious because it's full of people checking their accas and everyone else's scores. Very occasionally it wakes up and it's great, but I wouldn't recommend moving here for the atmosphere, although the view is great.

The lad will want to be in the Kop.
I suggest either going in there or staying where you are.
Exactly this. There comes a time when a boy must be a man. At that point the boy will seek things outside of Father’s usual habitat. You must let him go. You must not go with him. You have served your purpose.

There comes a time also, when a man must be an old fart. That’s what the South Stand is for.

Before I incur the wrath of South Standers, let me confess I am also a South stander. And so was my boy at one time. But he wanted to go on the kop with his mates and, reluctantly, I had to accept that, so it shall be.

As to the atmosphere in the South Stand...depends on what’s happening on the pitch, just like everywhere else. No it’s not as raucous as the kop. But it’s pretty good and less problematic in terms of idiots ruining the match by being pissed up and ignorant.

Get out the sun and get over to the south stand, chuck the kid into the kop

Strange how things change though as in a few years he'll be ok with going with you again.

Then fast forward a little bit further and you'll be organising seats for your grandkids as well (my grandsons are just 2 so not too far off)

Great to spend time/experiences with your family AND watch the Blades as well.

What's not to like.

We’ve had a season ticket in south stand gangway B for the last three seasons and it’s perfect. Kids 18, 15, 12 & 8 and the atmosphere is much better than when we first sat there. Great view and you catch the atmosphere from the kop too.

All they do on the Kop is moan about legroom, getting rained on and paddling in piss.

im sat on the family stand I have 1st 2 problems, only the 3rd occasionally when I think I can hold it until full time :D

If more of those who want 'atmosphere' and are willing to contribute to it weren't somehow anchored to the Family Stand/South Stand then maybe our home games would be a bit louder.
