It wasn’t before! Struggling to believe the opinion that he’s as good as Fleck, Woodwardfan

Fleck is 26 years old.

Those five years are an investment by any club who employs these lads.

Would you say 26/28 is the prime time for any footballer? Maybe 26-30?

We have him on contract for another year.

We sign him up on a 3 year contract on relative peanuts.

We send him on loan with an 'escape clause' for January. He would go to League 1, SPL or Championship if Burton were still there.

Next summer with 150 games under his belt we have a much better player than Evans from Wolves/Wigan when we paid &700k for him.

Better than Stevens.

Better than Leinard £700k

Better than Lundstram £700k?

As good as Coutts before long.and could graduate to Fleck in due course.

Coutts and Fleck have 'graduated' over the years.

Do we need to buy every player?

Can't agree regarding Evans. Best signing of the JTW and has a big future with us. Really good technique and playmaking ability.

Reed shows potential and I wouldn't have been against keeping him on the right terms but can't see him ahead of Fleck Coutts or Evans any time soon.

Much of what you say WWF has merit.

But the honest answer is that, as things stand, and without further reinforcements that may arrive over the summer, he faces stiff completion for a shirt in our CM. Realistically, he is behind PC,JF,JL, LE, RL, CB. By my reckoning that might make him 6th or 7th choice !!

His pathway is blocked. He will know this. Best for all to move on, drop a level or two, and develop accordingly. He has time on his side.

GLTTL.

UTB

Oh and as a slight afterthought, I’m all for questioning the gaffers talents in spotting the right players. He has after all made a few howlers in this regard !!

Isn't that what we've already done.......previously extended his contract, then sent him out on loan?
They've seen how he's done and decided to move him on.
We're not a charity.
He’s 21? And I’m not saying I think he’s a world beater and should go straight into the first team... but whats been the point sending him to Chesterfield? he’s gone there shown progression, got POTS, what more could he have done? Just don’t think it’s a massive gamble to give him another year.

We already have a few League 1 midfielders who aren't Championship standard, don't really need Reed back to compete with the likes of Carruthers, Holmes and Leonard for the last spot on the bench. Playing football is the best thing for him and he's unlikely to get much here.

Obvs.

Fair enough.

I think Brooks has developed fantastically well this season, in the championship.

I think he had an impressive season and is poised to make an impact next year, when he is fully recovered and fit after his illness.

There have been games where he's had a big impact, Leeds and Wednesday away spring to mind. Would we have won those games without him? Would we have enjoyed the season as much without those wins?

I'm sure he would have excelled in league 2, the same way I would excel in an under 7s league. Based on his impact at championship level, it would have been beneath him IMO.

Tbf I think the 'cartoon' summed up the OP a lot better :)

Louis Reed is about our 6th choice central midfielder. He was found to not have what it takes to get into one of the poorest United sides I have seen and, unlike Coutts, showed no flashes of anything that makes me think otherwise.

I have not seen anything of him this season apart from the game against Notts County on telly where he had a great game. However reading the comments of Chesterfield fans he seems to have been pretty shit up until Christmas when he then started to play well and became one of the better players in the worst team Chesterfield have ever had.

Meanwhile, at the Lane, we had a wonderful season - disappointing finish but some wonderful performances where our midfield played the opposition off the park.

Yet Woodwardfan - despite you not watching anything of Read this season - you think he's 'better than Evans' and can be better than Fleck and Coutts because he had half a not bad season for the worst side in the football league?

This allayed to your other contribution and a little standard plea to Webbo halfway through.

Trolls gonna troll.

Vulgar uncouth moron cartoon shark.

I don’t see Evans playing when Coutts is back. They play the same role and Coutts is much better.

I actually think (especially away and if we get a little pace up top) we’ll start games with Coutts, Fleck and Evans.

Think Duffy (and don’t take this as a I don’t think the bounce killer is awesome) will be seen more from the bench. Just an opinion.

But what an option to to have I’m really really happy with choosing 3 from that 4! (And with Lunds and Lenny - we’re in good nick).

But Reed isn’t yesterday’s man and is highly rated by wilder and a few others. I imagine a loan to Barnsley or Doncaster may suit. Obviously we may move on quality rise by the time he comes back again. As I have said in previous threads let’s see what contracts Long and Reed get or don’t before writing them off.

If Wilder really rates him, why has he put him as available for transfer.

Cannot see how Evans and Coutts play in the same system. Evans is a type of player to keep the ball moving sidewards which Coutts does but he also has that forward pass and quickness of thought.

Agree though we have good options in midfield.

Time will tell whether Coutts can hit the same levels when he gets back. I can see both playing in quite a few games with a flatter 3 as we've done at times with Lunny

Don’t go writing Evans off as a mainstay in our side, he can atleast get in his national squad whereas Coutts can’t and the Welsh side is by far the better nation.

Evans whips a great corner in and if he cuts the silly passes out will prove to be a very good player for us.

Coutts couldn’t score that goal Evans scored this season, that’s just another example of their differences and I’m pretty sure that if they’re both fit then they’ll play in enough games together.

I think Reed is worth atleast another year from what I’ve seen of him since he started playing football. As others have said, let him go on loan to a league one club and take it from there, he certainly has potential for the formation we currently play.

He does not have strength or pace, he is still easily shoved off the ball. It's alright saying he has played well in league two, I have not seen a game in the Championship where Evans/Fleck//Coutts/Lundstrum has not been in multiple aerial battles, and shoulder to shoulder battles and needing strength to escape losing the ball. I honestly can't see him doing those and winning.

Fulwood. respect as always.

Do you seriously think Evans, Lundstram, Stevens, Baldock, Carruthers, Thomas, Hussey, Holmes as yet, Leonard as yet, are all better than Reed who is 21 years old and so much ahead of him?

The football club will be there when the manager and these player above have long gone by the time Reed retires in another 15 years.

2 more years investment and we have a winner.
Have you really just included Baldock and Evans in the same sentence as Louis Reed? Baldock is a completely different player and plays in a completely different position. And yes, he’s far better than Reed will ever be. As for Lee Evans, yes he is better than Reed and by some way. Seriously, just because he’s a Blade doesn’t mean he has a right to be in our team. We’ve had Blades in the side before and him and we will after he’s gone.

Well if he doesn’t after a loosener of, say two games we can give him a good booing. That actually makes players perform better. This, I know because someone in S2 told me...

I wonder if the sort of people that boo Coutts are the sort of people denigrate our young players online, at every oppurtunity?

You’re confusing such numpties with sensible people who realise when it’s time to stop flogging a dead horse and acknowledge that some of ‘our’ young players are nowhere near good enough. Little Louis Vanarama is one of them, as I’ve suggested for some considerable time.

It’s not a good idea to employ poor players, wherever they were born and no matter who they support. You end up like Chesterfield

This is your problem Pinchy.

There's nothing wrong with your opinion that Reed won't be good enough to play for United - I tend to agree, unfortunately for Reed.

What's disturbing, is that rather than just say that, you take glee in insulting him, belittling him with crass nicknames like "Little Louis Vanarama".

It says a lot about your character if you ask me...
