The fact people are arguing the other side about how "no African nations come close" is genuinely terrifying.

What's the beef over there? I tried earlier but the amount of adverts meant I only lasted about ten seconds.

Anyway I'm quite disappointed not to find that Louis Reed has moved to another club at more his level, like maybe Barrow or Harrogate Town.

I still remember being desperate that players like him, Otis Khan and Conor Dimaio would come through and improve us..... dark dark times.

I think Reed was a good footballer, like many before and after him. I just think it’s very fine margins between making it at professional level or not.

Some look great when they are young and have the ability but it just doesn’t work out for them. Some blossom very late. (Vardy for example).

A mate I grew up with and went through primary, junior and secondary school was a tremendous footballer. He captained the school team and later captained Derbyshire boys. At comp school he was the school team captain and easily the best footballer in a large comp school of over 2000 pupils. He was signed by the Blades at 14 years old. On leaving school he joined the Blades professionally. Within a year he was playing in the reserves and on the fringes of the first team. A year later - gone.

A big part of that was down to him of course. He admitted that. But was he good enough to make it in terms of ability? No doubt. The lad just didn’t have the commitment to follow it through.

It’s very tough. Even if you do make it you may never get beyond the lower leagues. Look where many of our current squad came from. They are the exceptions rather than the norm.

Who's that other lad we had come through the ranks at a similar time? Taller than Reed, decent ball player, got a couple of assists in one game at the Lane I think.

All I can come up with is Elliot Whitehouse but I know he was earlier.

Was it Ben Whitehead, something like that?

I work with a fella who was on the books at Rotherham and Barnsley before injury put paid to his league career and he ended up playing at Ilkeston for a few seasons (took the insurance money from the PFA which meant he couldn't play in the League thereafter). Anyway he told me that in his younger days he was in the England U17 squad but he said that once he was 17 he never improved whereas most of the others did.

I don't wish any ill fortune to Reed but if you're smaller you're going to have to make up for it (like Fleck) and I don't think he did. Went to Peterboro and initially played quite a bit but I've noticed his appearances have somewhat dwindled so would not be surprised to see him drop down another level or two. I don't think a lack of goals has helped his cause.

Still, he's had a better career than me!

You work with Neil Warnock?

That other forum. What a cesspit. Mind you, with half the village idiots that inhabited Bladesmad on there you can’t be surprised.

Which season did he play for our reserves?

And me! At least in football. My story is one of Sheffield pub leagues. I had one big opportunity with Alfreton Town. I lasted 45 minutes! It was like being the ball boy at Wimbledon! I don’t think I even touched the ball, but hey! my work off the ball was amazing. I did a lot of “unseen work”!

Pity nobody noticed it! 🤔

Peterborough Put him up for transfer. Shame his career hasn’t worked out the way it looked like it could’ve when he was coming through

Part of Peterboroughs transfer policy, if they have a player who's in their last year they go up for sale.
