Noticed tonight whilst looking at details about Irish nationalist footballer James McLean, that Wrexham have renamed their stadium Stok Racecourse.

Now we have new US owners I trust we will not be subjected to the same, but fear we might be. Has/was any commitment been given on this?

Let's just not go there

I cringed when we renamed the Bramall Lane Stand as the Jessica Ennis Stand, even more so as her support for us was thin at best. Bramall Lane should always remain as Bramall Lane.

I think she's admitted she was never really a fan and mcabe saw her as an opportunity to exploit?

You're doing completely correct to be fearful by this.

I now regret all these excellent nights sleeps I've had since the takeover was confirmed.

Shoes off in the car park Friday night anyone?

I’d say it would be hard to get a new name to stick on a stadium that has been called the same for 130+ years and the finances involved would reflect that (you could say the same for the Racecourse ground but everything’s different when Disney/Netflix are involved). Much easier to rename a new stadium such as the McAlpine, Madejski etc.

I don't think I could care any less about renaming the stadium. We'd still call it Bramall Lane, as everyone else would. We'd get some money and it would be completely inconsequential to anything else that matters.

As has been said, we - and other fans - would always call it Bramall Lane.

The main problem for me is when newspaper reports run out of synonyms for each team and end up writing things like: “…but things changed in the second half when the Webuyanycars.com Stadium outfit forced a corner against the run of play”.

I'm a traditionalist as much as the next Blade but we have gone from Gary Sinclair shouting out "the oldest" to "one of the oldest" grounds.....we weren't the first to sing a song to the tune of GCB, Rotherham at least probably got there first and we definitely aren't as obsessed about attendances as Souh Barnsley.

Times change, shit moves on. It will always be Bramall Lane to those that want it to be but if it becomes the Avengers Assemble Arena and it secures our future status as an established PL team then so be it.

Iron Man Arena. #forgedinsteel

Let’s be right, the whole point of this naming of stadiums isn’t for targeting fans of the club, they will refer to it as they always have regardless.
It’s mainly two reasons-
1- It’s occasionally about finding a way for an owner to bury money into their club, often overpaying for the rights and to inject a sum to balance the books.
2- For it to be said and seen in the media to raise the profile of a company (again often their own) outside the usual visitors to the stadium. Folk who really aren’t even fans.

So I personally have no issue with it, wouldn’t affect me in the slightest and if it means the club closing some of the gap to the top 17 clubs then I’m all for it.

If someone wants to pay us it would make no difference to me. Everyone would still call it Bramall Lane anyway. Bolton’s new ground has changed names loads of times and it’s still The Reebok to me. St James’s Park the same (not Exeter!). It’s only shitty ones like Chesterfield that actually change their name.

And Chesterfield's was a totally new ground of course.

Int Bolton called the Big Sheet Stadium?

So was Bolton’s, isn’t Coventry’s on it’s 3rd or 4th name as well?!

They all look the same. Derby’s has kept its name, the PL ones with Arsenal and Man City were both 20 year deals from memory but then could be called anything.

Derby renamed Pride Park for a bit then went back to it. All Hull fans still call theirs the KC, even though KC became KCOM, then they changed sponsor. Cov fans will always call the Ricoh that because it was it's first name even though it was a sponsor, similar with the McAlpine at Huddersfield.

Valley Parade seems to get a new name every season or two, but nobody calls it that. The Vitality Stadium seems to be one of the only sponsored names on an old ground that people use but that's mostly because nobody cares enough about Bournemouth to call it Dean Court.
