Something we've overlooked - rebranding the stadium

Let's just hope they aren't Trump supporters though. The Trump Stadium, or America First Stadium, might be a bit much. Although trumps are very common on matchday 😷
Perhaps Elon will get interested in soccer and it’ll get renamed ‘Bramall Lane Musk-o-Dome’. I’ll get m’coat…

Surprised Chansiri hasn't jumped on the opportunity to rename Hillsborough yet.

Armitage Shanks Bowl has a nice ring to it...

I suppose the difference there is that the club don't own the ground, so any money generated by sponsoring it wouldn't go to the club anyway.

Wasn't Swansea's called Swansea.com?
Look, if they want to call it the Bramall Lane.com I will accept (yet miss off the last part anyway) for £50m.

Noticed tonight whilst looking at details about Irish nationalist footballer James McLean, that Wrexham have renamed their stadium Stok Racecourse.

Now we have new US owners I trust we will not be subjected to the same, but fear we might be. Has/was any commitment been given on this?

Views.
Thing is, it will always be Bramall Lane to us.

So even if it gets named the Tony Stark Arena it will still be BDTBL to us.

Except we’ll be a few million better off!

They make a fortune from D Taxis 🚕 Anyone for the cross
Anyone pick u in south Barnsley

It will ALWAYS be Bramall Lane, not Brammall or Bramhall or any sponsor!
However, I've always wondered who's decision it was to house the away fans on the side the stadium is named after anyway? I've always found this a bit silly. Logically, the Kop should be the away side as it's nearer the train station 😅. Obviously that is a sin to say such as thing as a Blade, but I did say "logically" which we don't seem to do at the best of times. Wonder why it wasn't renamed after the South Stand was built too - Highfield Stadium? Too close to Hillsborough maybe?

How many other clubs are like us in having the stadium name as (mostly or historically) for the away side? I can think of Vicarage Road.

In some ways it wouldn't matter a jot to me .
A lot of older people , my grandfather being one just used to refer to it as " the lane " sometimes it's fullname as " Brammer lane " .
The sponsor does make a difference, I'd probably feel short changed by the carmats stadium , on the other hand the Boeing Bramall Lane would generate worldwide interest and awareness.

Done right and for the right reasons not an issue, still be the lane to me .

If we go up naming rights should be sold ffp means every possible revenue stream to maximise what you can spend has to be taken. Sports savvy U S owners will be well aware of this. More worrying is the thought of a new stadium away from the lane. The new owners will be far less emotional about the Lane than we will. As far as the history goes purely pragmatically the stadium is only historic because of the location. As a structure its like Triggers Brush or the ship of Theseus. Mostly modernish structures built on an old site. I don't want to move but a brand new stadium means we don't have to displace a huge bunch of fans to build it.

You're doing completely correct to be fearful by this.

I now regret all these excellent nights sleeps I've had since the takeover was confirmed.

Shoes off in the car park Friday night anyone?
That's given me an idea 🤔🤔

How about "Shoes off in the carpark" stadium? I can just imagine it now on SSN on a satdi afternoon ......... Now we'll go over to the shoes off in the carpark stadium with Peter Stevenson 😀

Would the cost of a new stadium be worth it for the extra 10k or so fans we might get if we stay up?

Derby renamed Pride Park for a bit then went back to it. All Hull fans still call theirs the KC, even though KC became KCOM, then they changed sponsor. Cov fans will always call the Ricoh that because it was it's first name even though it was a sponsor, similar with the McAlpine at Huddersfield.

Valley Parade seems to get a new name every season or two, but nobody calls it that. The Vitality Stadium seems to be one of the only sponsored names on an old ground that people use but that's mostly because nobody cares enough about Bournemouth to call it Dean Court.
And I think that because Bournemouth's ground was completely rebuilt and the pitch turned 90 degrees (making it technically a new stadium in my book) people associate 'Dean Court' with the old ground.

Now that has given me an idea! How about a diagonal pitch relative to the stands. That would be unique.

Are you the chap who's been touting for a 180 rotation which would just put it back exactly as it is?
;-)
No but I seriously wondered if a 90 deg rotation would give more ground footprint. Ok you'd lose the car park which could go underground :)

It's BRAMALL LANE, it will always be BRAMALL LANE!

The Etihad is probably a bad example as Etihad are linked to the Man City owners.

The Emirates and the AMEX are probably poor examples too as they were named upon opening.

If you look at older stadiums that became sponsored, who calls them by their sponsored names?
Nobody called St James' Park the Sports Direct.
Swansea is still the Liberty, even though it's apparently the Swansea.com Stadium (as i learnt on Tuesday).
Loftus Road is the MATRADE Stadium these days.
Stoke is the Bet365 Stadium, not the Britannia.

Apologies, they would have been better examples.

Etihad is used because is so much easier to say than “City of Manchester Stadium”. It just doesn’t roll off the tongue or is easily shortened. If it had a better name when it opened, people would still use it.

So what would people think if it was rebranded say Marvel Stadium at Bramall Lane? Birminghams US owners have done something similar. Marvel sponsor a stadium in Melbourne. Like people have said it’ll be referred to as Bramall Lane or Lane but fans anyway.
The Russo's already have one in Melbourne, five AFL teams call it home.
Took this picture earlier.

Pigs slaughter house?

The lovely-doubley-bubbley stadium

He probably just calls it The Old Slag, like we all do.
I must admit after the 'disaster' I was surprised they didnt rebrand it, even maybe re-naming it back to Owlerton. Think that shows a bit of insensitivity.
