Snake Pass closed until 31st March - for those who drive to Sheff that way

I'm in south Manchester but I use the train for every game as I don't drive.

Saturday 3pm games are easy but there are always at least two options even for the awkward kickoff times:

1) 50 min train direct to Piccadilly (calls at Stockport and sometimes Dore)

2) 70 min local stopping service for those somewhere between Sheffield and Manchester, but also terminates at Piccadilly. It's a fair bit cheaper so I mainly use this as it adds up doing it 30+ times a year, but might help a few out temporarily while the Snake is shut

I was talking to someone yesterday who had just done the airport run . Went via Winnats , A6 at Chapel then A555 straight in . 1hr. 10 .

Came back via Woodhead - 1hr. 40. He said Mottram roundabout was a nightmare , the detour via the village closed off and quite a few temporary traffic lights on the Pass .

You must have been in the same train as my mate who is a Swansea fan (now lives in Manchester) after last Saturday's match. I waved him off at the station

Woodhead also has temp traffic lights on unfortunately.

“SNAKE PASS CLOSED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS

As you may have seen, the Snake Pass (A57) has been closed for several days due to the storms over the weekend.

Having spoken to the highways authority, it is now clear that this closure will be for quite some time.

I understand that there have been three active landslips, with one section of road having seen 2 metres of movement.

The closure is now expected to last at least 4 weeks.

Clearly this will mean even worse traffic on the Woodhead Pass through Tintwistle and through the Hope Valley too.

Investigations are ongoing and I am in constant contact with the highways authority to try and get this fixed and quickly and safely as possible.”

I just do that as it's easier. Get the tram or train into Picc and take it from there. I'm around Burton Road so it's like 2 hours max door to door, quicker if I can get a TPE and City or the Rags aren't having an early kick off.

When I come over from that direction I always do A555 and A6, then up to Dronfield from Calver. Park in Dronfield Sainsbury’s car park and 43 bus from just across the road into town. Bus stops on London Road - near the top of Woodhead Road - a short stroll down to the Lane.

Bit of a pain in the arse, but to be honest I more often than not do the Hazel Grove, Sparrowpit, Baslow route. More reliable in crap conditions

A6 - A623, theres a couple of options to avoid Winnets, as it gets snarled up down there.

A6 can be busy - if the weather is fine go Chapel, Kettleshulme and Pott Shrigley and A555 - just an hour from Ecclesall.

Macclesfield Blade here. If I don’t get the train I go via Buxton, Ashbourne, Baslow then into Sheffield, either down Abbeydale Rd or Homesfield / Meadowhead route.

That new airport link is a dream. I used to fly a lot for work pre-Covid and it knocked a good 20 mins off my journey from Dore, saves fannying around through Stockport or Bramall.

Another one that goes from Stockport via Winnets pass.

Sheffield will never move on economically at the same rate with the rest of the North until its got better road connection to the North West.

I can get to the outskirts of Liverpool in 45 minutes from South Manchester, but it takes over 30 mins longer to get to Sheffield when as the crow flies its closer.

Is there a Manchester supporters club or anything? I've lived here all my life (30 years) and not growing up round fellow SUFC fans has always been very boring
