I tend to go that way to avoid GlossopSouth Manchester gang. A6 and skirting past the Airport it is then.
You must have been in the same train as my mate who is a Swansea fan (now lives in Manchester) after last Saturday's match. I waved him off at the stationI'm in south Manchester but I use the train for every game as I don't drive.
Saturday 3pm games are easy but there are always at least two options even for the awkward kickoff times:
1) 50 min train direct to Piccadilly (calls at Stockport and sometimes Dore)
2) 70 min local stopping service for those somewhere between Sheffield and Manchester, but also terminates at Piccadilly. It's a fair bit cheaper so I mainly use this as it adds up doing it 30+ times a year, but might help a few out temporarily while the Snake is shut
Woodhead also has temp traffic lights on unfortunately.I was talking to someone yesterday who had just done the airport run . Went via Winnats , A6 at Chapel then A555 straight in . 1hr. 10 .
Came back via Woodhead - 1hr. 40. He said Mottram roundabout was a nightmare , the detour via the village closed off and quite a few temporary traffic lights on the Pass .

Would you go through Sparrowpit in icy weather?Bit of a pain in the arse, but to be honest I more often than not do the Hazel Grove, Sparrowpit, Baslow route. More reliable in crap conditions
I said more reliable, not infallible!Would you go through Sparrowpit in icy weather?
It's my go-to- route when the weather is bad, much safer and less likely to be closed than the othersWould you go through Sparrowpit in icy weather?
It’s the only way now , I can’t drive past that shit holeWe travel in from Stockport via A6, Winnats, Hathersage, etc. usually about an hour![]()
A6 can be busy - if the weather is fine go Chapel, Kettleshulme and Pott Shrigley and A555 - just an hour from Ecclesall.I was talking to someone yesterday who had just done the airport run . Went via Winnats , A6 at Chapel then A555 straight in . 1hr. 10 .

Oooh, oooh, you can land on Hawk Green in Marple just opposite the Crown. I'll sup up sharpish and hop in. CheersSurprising amount of Manchester blades on here. May as well charter a helicopter
We’d be up for that, in High Lane. CheersOooh, oooh, you can land on Hawk Green in Marple just opposite the Crown. I'll sup up sharpish and hop in. Cheers![]()

That new airport link is a dream. I used to fly a lot for work pre-Covid and it knocked a good 20 mins off my journey from Dore, saves fannying around through Stockport or Bramall.I was talking to someone yesterday who had just done the airport run .
