Why would we need one or even two new centre halves to play with a back four ?

A line up of Baldock - Basham - Egan - O’Connell would comfortably better any other in next year’s Championship and quite a few in the Premier League judging by what I’ve seen this season .
Basham ain’t good enough to play in a two at Championship level so if we’re going to a 4 he’s done for us I’m afraid. Egan isn’t a ball playing centre half as Slav has tended to want from his teams. JoC won’t be back for the start of the season. If we play a 3 then both Bash and Egan would be fine and there’s the possibility that RND could play on the left.

Could McBurnie do that role in Jokanovic system is the question
It’s not really how he plays. Oli likes to come deep to link up rather than lead the line so you’re asking him to do a role he’s never done.
Could he do it? Possibly but he’d need to be stronger and more dominant. We’d also need new players either side as it wouldn’t be Brewsters game nor Dids so you’re either going with Burke or getting the wallet out.
What you could do is tweak the way the front 3 play to suit our players with Brewster starting wider but we effectively use our full backs for our width and the two wider forwards make use of the space Oli leaves when he comes deep. That’s why I think 3-4-3 suits us better as our core formation for next year if we’re dumping 3-5-2, which I’m still think would be fine.

surely egan wont be here next season bob i think as you said in an earlier post we could well have to look at bringing 2 new centre backs in your probably right with the 343 set up if sj comes in but still think 4 at the back is a possibility you just have to have a midfield protector in front of them the role phillips does for leeds

I think Egan could be here as he’s not really proven himself accomplished at PL level and he’s also been protected by the 3. There’s a few clubs who may take a punt if they sell and need a cheaper replacement, say Burnley but I can’t see a feeding frenzy for his services.
Berge would be great in that deeper role, although he is one I think would move on if we get the £30M+ required but Norwood could do it but wouldn’t thrill me if we keep any of the three who’s played for most of this season as first team starters.

still think egan and berge will go bob like you say maybe burnley for egan or one of the 3 promoted clubs might be interested but midfield really is the key area for recruitment this summer norwood and fleck if they both stay cannot be automatic choices we need 3 more in imo like we were saying earlier were gonna need about 7 new players to come in

I take all of this with a pinch of salt.

But, for argument's sake, if he is being interviewed - then that better be an indication that there's money to spend, because he's never operated anywhere without a hefty chequebook.

Only United could hire a chequebook manager without owt to spend...

we should be in the top 6 for finance in the championship and thats what he will have to work with if hes not happy with it he wont take the job but i think he will take the job if its offered to him

Yes it appears we are having difficulty joining everything up at the moment. Or could that be the journalists are

Nixon coming out with stuff on it been expensive comes across that he knows it's expensive and that was probably an issue previously, hence we've not talked to him officially previously - apparently, Or they have and they knew the money needed for him and were pursuing other alternatives. I always think when a manager is linked later on in the process there is a much higher chance there's something in it. I think if Jokanovic isn't right up there why interview him if we already had a five man shortlist?

On the wages and bonus's I seem to recall that "wages wouldn't be a problem" been said a few times during this process for Jokanovic.

I'm afraid you've all got the wrong end of the stick

Nixon was the first to mention him I believe way back and it was his report I’ve been referring to when I’ve been saying it concerned me that the cost is the major aspect which Slavs side seem to be getting out. That element has been either briefed to other journalists or they’re using Nixon’s report as the source. He wants his money, which of course could just be a negotiating tactic to get the best deal but it’s a concern to me as to his priorities especially given he’s been managing in the middle of nowhere at the detriment of his career for the same reason. I’d like a more inspiring leader who’s with us for something more than just being paid.

whos your choice then bob if not sj 🤔🤔🤔

And yet when we talk about half-decent transfer targets, the main criteria is almost always about whether we can pay them enough! 😁

Yes theres plenty been saying we will see the ambition PA has by what manager we go for
If we go for Hecky, Tindall, Appleton etc that will be the cheap option and we cant have that because that is not showing ambition

So you want him to do it for nowt :)
It just wouldn’t be the only aspect I’d be putting out. It also wouldn’t be in the first couple of things I’d be saying to an employer who’s approaching me. If they’re approaching me I’d assume they know a ball park figure of what it’s going to cost to employ me.
When it’s happened to me before I’ve normally gone through with them what I think is needed, where they need to go, what it’s going to cost to get there and a high level view of how I’d implement it. At which point if you’ve hit the right notes they’re highly unlikely to baulk when you tell them your demands.

I’d be talking to Clement for sure but I see him as a higher performing target than SJ and probably more difficult to secure because he’s arguably at a higher standing in the game right now than we are.
However it he’s open to it probably due to his relationship with Van Winckle, then he’s the one to secure before a better offer comes along from a higher level.

How do you know all that hasnt already happened

It could have. But why would you be feeding the press only the parts about what your wage demand are? You’d be saying how interested you are in the project and the potential on offer, the challenge of getting us back to the PL and rebuilding that team. Bringing through the youth players who’ve done so well this season, when the time is right, and how bright the future looks. You wouldn’t be briefing just about how much you want to be paid if they want you. If you know you’re interested and want the job you’d be looking to get the fans behind you and getting your vision out to strengthen your hand with the board.

SJ is off. Extortionate wage demands.
No where has mentioned extortionate demands so that would be new.
The original statement was £2M per year which is the top earner (deepening on who comes down) which is fucking expensive but not extortionate for the level.
So, in time honoured fashion, WYEDP?

Youre believing all you hear in the press most of it is bollocks
He may have said all those things privately in the interview process

I really don’t believe what I hear in the press as truth. I think most of my posts support that. Not that because I think they just make stuff up, but because they generally report whatever is being fed to them by various sources with various interests. These can be contradictory from different sources but both of interest and newsworthy. It isn’t the journalists view of what will happen unless it’s an opinion piece, just what they’re being told and of course they will have their own bias’ and axes to grind when they’re selecting what is worthy to share and what not to.

What I do is note what message is being put out and reported when it’s being fed and try to understand the angles and who would want that message circulating.
The reality is either the press are being briefed somewhere by someone consistently that SJ wants big money or they are making it up with zero sources which is unlikely. It’s even further unlikely that if they are making it up entirely that they wouldn’t also make up a bit more detail around the other aspects the fill out the story.
So if they are being briefed why are they only briefing about his demands? That concerns me.

Surely any announcement would be after the Burnley game?

Can't see the new guy wanting to have any association with this season.
