They could be one of the sameI think we view things from totally opposite directions. I see that as a positive. He's not changed his stance. He knew we were in for him weeks ago.

Completely agree, needs a bit of luck and the players to buy into the process/tactics/planOnce the decision has been made it's all irrelevant. At that point you have to just get behind him, hope he gets the backing he needs and hope those who wanted him were right. There are legitimate reasons why people think managers are a good choice or a good fit, but sometimes things just don't work out.
Don't blame yourself, I didn't think Bassett would work, didn't expect him to last 6 months!Looking back judging myself I think I've been quite good at judging players. Not too many have ended up better or worse than I thought. When it comes to managers I've been bloody awful. I liked the way Robson talked, same for Weir, I was over the moon with Adkins, and I thought Wilder would be awful. We should all be worried when I say Jokanovic is my first choice right now.
Not that I am cynical, BUT! a couple of years ago most of us, including the large flock of Geese,, thought the logical and overdue choice of Nigel Adkins was the correct decision
He needs the players first. I reckon a first team turn over of at least 5 if everyone stays, and probably the same again to the support squad.Completely agree, needs a bit of luck and the players to buy into the process/tactics/plan
We really don't. He plays a back four generally which means we certainly need a centre half if not two. The three in midfield will all need replacing unless Berge stays, but his midfield were always dynamic, creative and progressive with the ball, certainly the two who'd push forward. None of our midfield currently have that.Difference is SJ has played a similar system to what we already play. We have players here already that will suit the way SJ would like to setup his team.
Hopefully he will take what had worked well under Wilder and improve on it.
Did somebody say.... MitrovicHe needs the players first. I reckon a first team turn over of at least 5 if everyone stays, and probably the same again to the support squad.

Up top he likes a target battering ram, we don't have one. We also don't have two pacy creative forwards.
So either he's going to have to tweak what he's done previously to fit around Brewster/McBurnie or there's a serious make over needed of both the first team and supporting squad. If he's the man you would think that's been signed off, so let's get on it.
Only worrying thing for me is his average time at a club & his recent trip to Qatar.Difference is SJ has played a similar system to what we already play. We have players here already that will suit the way SJ would like to setup his team.

No, no one said him. He's expensive, and proven he can't do it at PL level so not worth the investment.Did somebody say.... Mitrovic![]()

In what ways doe you think he plays a similar system to the current one? Tbh I think how he set Watford and Fulham up is quite far away from how Utd have played since L1 and particularly since CW changed to a flat 3 in midfield.
His Fulham side in the Champ was one of the most exciting sides to watch that I've seen, balanced, lots of pace, lots of creative and attacking options, a quality focal up front - quite different to the current Utd side, squad and formation
He may have on occasion but it was always 4 whenever I saw themI thought he played 3 at the back at Fulham?

Yeah, I think he did mix it up a bit.
Was it more a 4-3-3?
The concern is we don't have the right players, unless he's looking to change his style of play which is a big factor for those who want him here.Out of the realistic rumoured choices, think he's most peoples no.1 choice. Doesn't always seem to stay long but if he gets us back up at 1st attempt, good job.
We don't actually want a big turnover of players as this usually results in a transition time. 6 or so in, 7 or so out something like for the entire squad.
Can't see us getting Mitrovic, wages be too high. We do have a fair amount of strikers though.
Burke, McGoldrick, Mousset, Sharp, Brewster, McBurnie.
I think in the Champ you could argue a point for all of them. But realistically I'd be OK losing Burke despite his pace. If SJ players 3 up top though you probably want 5 or 6 strikers.
Key area is still midfield. Boosting the options there after Lundstram goes and if we don't use Luke Freeman if he gets fit again or lose Berge etc.
Irrespective of style or formation, he or any other manager, could take the view that 5/6 players in, and shipping some out, is the quickest, most effective way to combat the apathy and losing habit, that seems to have taken holdThe concern is we don't have the right players, unless he's looking to change his style of play which is a big factor for those who want him here.
To play his way you are looking at over 10 signings and a least 5-6 first teamers. It's going to be great to watch, and probably what's needed, but it ain't going to be cheap or seamless.
what ever info someone hears it’s nice for them to pass it on, whether accurate or not. You’re out there to be shot at, little bit like Nixon on Twitter he gets loads right and wrong.I think we view things from totally opposite directions. I see that as a positive. He's not changed his stance. He knew we were in for him weeks ago.

But then you’re looking to replace both if we’re promoted. Bedding in a new back 2 in the PL is a big ask. I think you’re right that they’d probably be ok but they don’t fit how Slav plays his centre halves with the dominant one also being able to play out. Also Ampadu hasn’t played in a defensive two at any real level, even for Wales.Egan is good enough to play in a back four for Ireland, and I fancy we could keep Ampadu for another season. I reckon they’d do as a main centre half pairing for the Championship.

Why would we need one or even two new centre halves to play with a back four ?
A line up of Baldock - Basham - Egan - O’Connell would comfortably better any other in
will Norrington Davies be given a chance, if so thats 5 LB's on the books, Bryan seemed preferred over Robinson, unless N Davies is competing with Enda & Osbourne, and Lowe for wing back. RB & RM seems limited to Baldock & Bogle, no cover for Bash & EganWhy would we need one or even two new centre halves to play with a back four ?
A line up of Baldock - Basham - Egan - O’Connell would comfortably better any other in next year’s Championship and quite a few in the Premier League judging by what I’ve seen this season .
i don't think the system has been found out, what was found out, 3 or 4 players tried but couldn't offer the threat or stability in defence that JOC can, overloading one flank, time after team is a damn site easier to defend and counter, add in dropping back down and playing sides that haven't played against it for 2 years,,has to worth trying again IF we have the players to do it.I dont think SJ would initially go four at the back
The board said they wanted a manager that would play three at the back due to the squad we have and dont want the expense of buying new players to fit a four at the back scenario
Basham wouldnt be a choice as a CB in the Championship in a four unless we were very desperate
The lack of pace with Basham and Egan as a CB pairing would be fully exposed
Could McBurnie do that role in Jokanovic system is the questionNo, no one said him. He's expensive, and proven he can't do it at PL level so not worth the investment.
We may as well look to our contacts abroad to identify someone who possibly could no only do it at Championship but also at the level above.
