Instead of making thread after thread about how poor the atmosphere at the Lane is why don’t we do something about it , it’s not just us every ground in the country is on the decline .

Why not try get all the people who want to sing together like the people at the back of the KOP and south stand and try get together a section preferably at the front of the KOP in front of one of the poles , this would be the best place for a section IMO

Popcorn at the ready...

Same old problem though - space. The only option on the Kop is being shunted over to the far left hand side - when we already have the group on the opposite side over on the right.

There's a great big space staring us in the face every week but obviously that space is toxic and out of bounds.

If anybody wants to try anything at all, obviously they'd have my full support. But.....

It was tried and didn't work out and I'd be willing to say that Ricky tried harder than anyone else would.

For that to work it'd need someone to run it as a supporters group and have nights out, competitions and stuff to get a real buzz about it, and the club would have to make it is as easy as possible.

A singing section on the Kop won't work because of season ticket seats separating groups.

I think the thing that'd help most is small clusters of a few sitting together and not being afraid of making a noise. Enough of those scattered around and people will join in.

Two sarcy comments within 60 seconds

Would a sarcy section be more favorable reckon that would sell out

Sorry, not trying to be sarcy. Sounds like you’re unaware but there’s been a long campaign for a singing section in this forum that, despite good intentions, never got off the ground. It’s a source of contention.

Why not get Sinclair to boom out our top chants over the speaker system for 90 minutes, might even get a few fans joining in.

We tried it before in gangway a/b and it worked for about half a match. Problem is that the main 3 areas on the kop where there is regular singing are separate and can be disjointed. All the back half of the kop in the central areas and near John St are season tickets thought so you can't move people.

The previous singing section was for the upper tier which was never going to work as its full of students and families

It doesn’t have to necessarily be a singing section just the back few rows of the KOP and a few on the south who want to make some noise to sit at the front ish area of the KOP

Not 100% sure of season ticket sale at the front of the KOP but I doubt there’s loads.

Also singing at the back of the KOP is the worst possible place as by the time it gets to the south stand it’s too late whereas at the front of the kop is much closer

How come the G & H block has died a death?
Why is the kop a lot quieter over by the South compared to over by John Street as well? I sing wherever I sit to be honest, I think it's a bit weird if you dont.

BLUT isn't students and families exclusively anymore. It was but there has been quite a big migration from other stands. All sorts of fans, I was sat behind Steve Cowens Saturday, he wasn't taking photos of the rainbows with me.

Are you still allowed to sing on the South Stand? A small % will join in for GCB (when G-Sync gives permission, not the other occasions obviously), but the last time I’ve sat there it’s felt like getting involved in anything further is punishable by death stare. “Programmes Three Quid” man is walking a tightrope as it is.

The Kop have small groups of fans who have competitions against each other which doesn’t help anyone at all, why this is is anyone’s guess. They can’t or should I say won’t join in with any other group, it’s all rather sad really.

Agreed but I’m sure its not a competition , it is quite hard to get a large group of people to all sing the same song.

Don’t get why all the people on the kop don’t go on the gangway to the left that is usually the last to get sold out could easily get the groups to sit on there

This is an issue.

We sit right in the centre of the kop and we get songs coming from behind us on the left side and the right side, trouble is they're usually bloody different songs.

We tend to join in with whichever is loudest but if these two groups stop competing with each other and co-ordinate their efforts maybe the whole crowd volume would significantly increase.

Plenty of other teams are doing similar things teams.
Watford have started a singing section so have Huddersfield , man united have started it along with palace .

Also West Brom the other week had a section next to the away end.

There’s no reason why we couldn’t do this

This is how seat availability looks on the left side of the Kop for tomorrow night. From front to back, green being available:

G and H block still make noise. Sometimes louder than what drifts over from the Kop. Are your ears painted on or do you just like an over egged pudding?

If anyone wants to sing a song with anybody else then they can do it if they try hard enough.

That’s the point plenty of people would like to but they don’t cause there isn’t people around them who would sing

I personally only really sing at away games as at home games it just isn’t the norm and don’t want to loook like a loon standing up and singing in the upper tier

However if there was a section say on the KOP that was specifically for singing and creating an atmosphere then I would and I reckon there’s plenty more in the same boat.

I'll take a stab at how many will contribute to this thread. I'll say 20 people. Out of that 20 people two will probably fall out and never speak again other than to slag the other off. 33% will disagree with tha majority. Ricky will get called (mockingly) an ultra wannabe. Foxy will ban 1 person and the relevant point of the thread will be lost to childish bickering. That's just 20 people, not the several hundred it will need to have any sort of legs.

Good luck.

How will I be able to take in the tension and groan when we lose the ball if there's idiots singing over the top of me?

The only chance that has of happening is if at the start of the season the club hold a small section of the ground back from Season Ticket customers and advertise this section as a singing only section and if someone is caught not singing in it they get a ten year ban. :)

Just for clarity, before people get their knickers in a twist, the last part is a joke. :)

I don’t think I’ve sat in G&H block since it reopened after the closure. It’s a much different South Stand crowd at the Kop end. They just look over at the Kop occasionally and try and work out what the people there are doing.
